Purpose: To create an informative and insightful profile of either a group of people whose lives

Audience: Your audience for this essay is readers like yourselves: college-educated readers who
are curious about everyday experiences of ordinary people, and want to learn about amateur
archers, or the goings on behind the scenes at a local eatery; about a day in the life of a team of
firefighters, the American River Parkway, or people’s responses to the turkey population in Davis.
Role: Your role as a writer is to recreate and describe these people’s experiences, not only the

Course Description
This course is an introduction to ethics and ethical reasoning. We will spend most of the
course getting acquainted with the definition and meaning of ethics, and seek in many
ways to transcend conventional views to produce a broader and deeper definition and
understanding of ethics that places it at the center of a meaningful, responsible, and
compassionate life. We will examine key ethical issues, explore major philosophers’
ideas, and examine a number of core ethical traditions. The course aims not only to
explain what ethics is, as a historical and philosophical matter, but also how to do it, as a
reasoned practice relevant to contemporary society and to the quality of one’s own
existence.
After the main focus on ethical theory, we devote the last part of the course to applied

The purpose of this collaborative writing exercise is to create an origin myth story of your own imagination. Using the examples from the origin myths in the DBR 200 iBook-create your own origin myth! What was there before the beginning of time? Of space? What does the universe look like in your imagination? Is there a “Creator” in your story? Or multiple “entities” that act like creators or instigators or accidents of nature? What do these “beings” or entities look like? How do they act? Are you telling the story from the perspective of ancient, primitive imaginations? Or is this story a translation or recital of the “original story” told by the “creators” or “first beings or entities?” What about the origins of humankind? How will you describe those events? What sort of relationship do those creatures have with the world or universe?
Step One-Try to address some of the issues I’ve raised above in your group discussions. Begin to sketch in some of the details you might like to include as a kind of framework or outline to your story.
Step Two-Continue to try to collect images or sounds that might be included in a multimedia representation of the story. You should immediately consider the restrictions/limitations to the kind of media that you can post on Tumblr. That will affect your choice of materials and how they are presented.
Step Three-Create the First draft version of the myth and use it to expand/contract depending on how the group wants the version to be received or understood/listened or viewed by your readers. You might even post it up and ask for feedback from “followers” on your Tumblr blogs.
Step Four-Post your final version on Tumblr. Each student in the group should post the same/group’s version of the origin story. I will reblog the final versions to everyone. The final version should have a short section at the bottom of the work acknowledging sources, such as the origin myths included in the iBook, in the form of footnotes that detail how a particular figure from one of the origin myths inspired your version, etc.

Your Popular Culture Project, a portfolio of different assignments, will serve to integrate the main themes of this course:
How television both reflects culture, and also manipulates it.
The role Hollywood films play in shaping the popular culture.
The many aspects of popular culture in everyday life and social history.
Social issues and major problems in American Popular Culture.
To achieve this, we will be looking at different eras of recent American History through the lens of television and via mass media. For your course project, you will analyze a film, a popular song, a television series/ show, a magazine or newspaper article, and one website from a particular period in history that we will cover in the course. You will then research the media product itself, and the time in American history when it was created, to see the relationship between the media, popular culture, and American history.
In each media analysis piece, you will discuss the social issues present within both the media you are discussing (film, tv show, article), and the ways in which these social issues were communicated to American audiences through the media piece being analyzed. These social and cultural issues include, but are not limited to: sexism, the feminist movement, civil rights, environmental protection, gangs, terrorism...etc. The point of this final project is to have a completed portfolio at the end of the course, which includes assignments that are all connected through social issues in recent American History.

Each essay assignment will function as a portion of a portfolio piece, which when completed at the end of the course, will encompass the entire course project. Each essay should be a minimum of 600 words, and a maximum of 800 words. The essays should provide, in your own words, a thoughtful reflection on the assignment topic. A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.

DOCUMENTING | 10 Points Throughout the quarter you will be tasked with exploring current events, media, social media, and other forms of pop culture to analyze and document in your pop culture journal (you will be posting your journal entry to your peer discussion group on Canvas each week it is due, but it may be helpful to keep this is a running document in your own files to add to each week, then copy and paste from your journal onto Canvas). This will give you an opportunity to make connections between what we are learning about in class related to rhetorical/critical frameworks of inquiry and what you are seeing in the world around you, as well as empowering you to explore topics that particularly interest you. Each week that you are assigned a public life journal entry (see course schedule), you should: (1) describe the context of your example (important parts like what this means relative to the historical context and social world, who, what, when, where, why, how etc.)-you may post a picture or a link if that would be helpful (2) clearly connect it to a particular concept, idea, term, theory, method, etc. we are learning about that week (your book can be a helpful guide here)-be sure to label the concept clearly, describe it, and apply it to your chosen example and (3) include and cite at least one reference for your example below your post/entry. DISCUSSING | 10 Points You should respond to at least two of your peers' posts . Think of your responses here as what you would comment on in a face-to-face discussion-i.e., parts you found interesting, additional insights or connections you may make, questions that come up, and always lead with a respectful tone.
