The documentary analyzes the music industry and how it can make or break artists' careers. It follows meatloaf's comeback attempt. It uses a variety of footage such as interviews, narration, and archival material. The narrator has a slightly sarcastic tone. It analyzes how the media influences audiences and their opinions of artists. Chroma key is used to overlay images during interviews. Editing techniques like cuts, dissolves and jump cuts are used throughout.
Other ways our documentary uses convention of existing documentaries. Is the use of sound bedding, which is used during the during the voice over, interview and as a soundtrack for the beginning of the episode. Sound bedding/track is an instrumental sound usually from the song that the cast produced or from a featured song that relates to the genre. We used sound bedding because it helps the audience capture what is going on.
Actuality footage was used during the interview of Kayz. Showing the artist performing on stage. This adds realism to our documentary. We also used another actuality footage where the group were performing for a music video in the borough of Abbey wood

Text was used during the interview. Which includes the artists name and what they do. This is a important form, because it gives the audience further information of who they're watching telling them what their role in Rough Royalty and also makes the characters more easier to remember.
Interviews are a very common convention. This allows our cast to speak directly to the audience, telling them about themselves and experiences. Interviews help to give our documentary a sense of realism. The interviewee also look into the eye of the interview while giving there thoughts on the subject. This helped to create more emotion as they speak.
In our interview it was set up in a room using a white screen background and bright lightning and the camera remains static to make it look more professional and so it doesn’t distract the audience from what`s being said, makes it easier to see the cast and offers a clean space to place in the text.
We also used cutaways during the interview to illustrate what the casts are talking about e.g. Dans (public relations) interview.
We used Narrative montage for the introduction by showing different cuts of what's going to take place in the documentary. There were numerous shots of the group in different settings and time within the documentary. Montages in documentaries usually link to what the narrator or different people in the documentary says. However we used this technique but also challenged it by using montage to show iconography images and things that’s going on in the series.
Another convention that was used is colour bars and “beep” sound to add emphasis during the interview of Kaysan. The Colour bars were added during post production, where we censored some of the language used and redid the interview. Colour bars are usually used for behind the scenes and for some music documentaries.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. Type of Documentary
• The documentary is mixed as it includes a
variety of content such as narration,
interviews, actuality and archive footage
3. Themes of the documentary
The documentaries main theme is about the power of the media
of the music business and how the media can make and brake
artists, it also is about how the media can influence the
opinions of the audience on certain artists and music types
4. Narrative structure
The documentary is single strand as we follow rockstar meatloaf
on his comeback. It is non linear and it is a closed
documentary.
It is also informal due to the voiceover having a sarcastic tone at
some points of the documentary
5. Camerawork
During the documentary most of the interviews are framed just
off centre and the eyes are roughly a third of the way across
the screen. In one of the interviews though the interviewee is
in profile when hes is talking, in my personal opinion i feel
that the documentary creators tried to be creative, but i think
that it doesnt look good and this tells me that even the pros
get it wrong on occasions. The documentary uses all camera
techniques as it is very creative, the main reason why they
have used a wide range of shots is to vary up the visual which
will interest the audience.
6. Mise en Scene
Chromakey (green Screen) has been used and stills from album
covers and other relevant pictures to the topic in which the
interviewees are talking about. The lighting on the interviews
are very good and they have to have good lighting on the
interviewee as the chromakey wont work as the lighting
needs to be good or there will be discrepancies with how the
technology works
The picture on
the left has
been

7. Sound
A variety of music and sound has been used in the documentary,
meatloaf and the ymca are included. There is also a voiceover
on the documentary, the person talking is male and he is
slightly Scottish and also uses standard English. His voice is
clam and is a little sarcastic on occasions. The voiceover has
been used to make the documentary stick together, without
the voice over some of the shots which have been used will
not have any context as we dont always know where the
locations are.
8. Editing
The main edit which is used in the documentary is the basic cut,
this is the most common editing as all programmes use the
normal cut. There is a montage of a load of different
magazines newspapers and interviews. There is also a dissolve
used on a couple of the interviews. There is also a use of jump
cuts which are used to cover up the jump cuts as we dont
hear any of the questions being asked.
9. Archive Material
the documentary includes footage from the brits, mr blobby
music video, ymca video and footage from meatloafs new
video. There are also newspaper articles and magazine covers
used, these are usually used to illustrate what is being said.
The newspaper and magazine articles are usually
superimposed on the green screen. There was also footage
from noels house party which is where my blobby comes
from.
10. Graphics
In the documentary there is use of graphics in the interviews, they
have a bar going across the bottom of the screen. This bar has the
name and the reason why this person is being interviewed. This is
used to anchor the reasons why each interviewee is there. Apart
from these graphics there isnt much else included. At the beginning
of the documentary there is a magazine which has some stars
talking in blocks of the magazine.
