This document summarizes a presentation on Docker given at Yishou University. It introduces Docker concepts like virtualization, the differences between containers and VMs, the Docker ecosystem and tools. It covers the Linux and Docker CLIs, using the Docker Engine, building minimal Docker images with Dockerfile, and using Docker and Qemu to emulate a Raspberry Pi Raspbian image. Upcoming topics for next week are also listed.
Using Containers for Continuous Integration and Continuous DeliveryCarlos Sanchez
Building and testing is a great use case for containers, both due to the dynamic and isolation aspects, but it increases complexity when scaling to multiple nodes and clusters.
However, the Kubernetes project provides a container orchestration solution that greatly simplifies app deployments in large clusters, and allows to dynamically run any containerized workload. Jenkins is an example of an application that can take advantage of such technology to run Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery workloads.
The Jenkins Kubernetes plugin can transparently use on demand containers to run build agents and jobs, and isolate job execution. It also supports CI/CD-as-code using Jenkins Pipelines.
The presentation will allow a better understanding of Kubernetes, and how to use Jenkins on Kubernetes for container based large scale, showing also the challenges of running distributed applications (particularly JVM apps).

Comparing Next-Generation Container Image Building ToolsAkihiro Suda
http://sched.co/EaYe
Until recently, running `docker build` against Dockerfile had been the only way to build container images.
However, lots of opensource software are being proposed as successors/alternatives to `docker build`:
- BuildKit (Moby Project / Docker)
- img (Jessica Frazelle / Microsoft)
- Buildah (Project Atomic / Red Hat)
- umoci & Orca (SUSE)
- Bazel (Google)
- OpenShift S2I (Red Hat)
Akihiro Suda compares these new tools' advantages and disadvantages.
His evaluation basis would include but not be limited to:
- Performance (Cache efficiency, Concurrency, Distributed Execution)
- Secret management, e.g. SSH and AWS keys
- Support for non-Dockerfile
- Non-root execution
- UI & UX
- Governance of the community
He also proposes a unified interface for using these tools with Kubernetes in a vendor-neutral way.

An overview on docker and container technology behind it. Lastly, we discuss few tools that might come handy when dealing with large number of containers management.
Why everyone is excited about Docker (and you should too...) - Carlo Bonamic...Codemotion
In less than two years Docker went from first line of code to major Open Source project with contributions from all the big names in IT. Everyone is excited, but what's in for me - as a Dev or Ops? In short, Docker makes creating Development, Test and even Production environments an order of magnitude simpler, faster and completely portable across both local and cloud infrastructure. We will start from Docker main concepts: how to create a Linux Container from base images, run your application in it, and version your runtimes as you would with source code, and finish with a concrete example.
PuppetConf 2017: What’s in the Box?!- Leveraging Puppet Enterprise & Docker- ...Puppet
“Docker, Docker, Docker.” It’s a phrase we hear often, but what are containers, what can they be used for, and why should you know more about them? In this session, Grace (Puppet) and Tricia (AppDynamics) will introduce attendees to Docker and help them build and deploy their first container with Puppet. They will leverage the docker_image_build module from the Puppet Forge and take attendees through the proper workflow for coupling Docker and Puppet together. The session will focus on how to use some of the newest Docker features, such as multi-stage build files and password stores within Docker so you can pass "secrets" to a swarm for login credentials. The goal is to provide newcomers with a working proficiency of how to get started deploying containers using Puppet as their automation tool.
Il s’agit dans un premier temps de présenter Docker, ses cas d’usage et quelques bonnes pratiques d’utilisation.
Le but est de présenter Docker, son mode de fonctionnement et son écosystème.

Docker is a growing open-source platform for building and shipping applications as cloud services in so called containers. But containers can be more than that! Following the idea of DevOps, Dockerfiles are a complete scripted definition of an application with all it's dependencies, which can be build and published as ready to use images. As each container is only running "one thing" (e.g. one application, one database, a worker instance), multiple containers can be configured with the help of docker-compose.
More and more geospatial open source projects or third parties provide Dockerfiles. In this talk, we try to give an overview of the existing Docker images and docker-compose configurations for FOSS4G projects. We report on test runs that we conducted with them, informing about the evaluation results, target purposes, licenses, commonly used base images, and more. We will also give a short introduction into Docker and present the purposes that Docker images can be used for, such as easy evaluation for new users, education, testing, or common development environments.
This talk integrates and summarizes information from previous talks at FOSS4G and FOSSGIS conferences, so I'd like to thank Sophia Parafina, Jonathan Meyer, and Björn Schilberg for their contributions.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
Code reviews are vital for ensuring good code quality. They serve as one of our last lines of defense against bugs and subpar code reaching production.
Yet, they often turn into annoying tasks riddled with frustration, hostility, unclear feedback and lack of standards. How can we improve this crucial process?
In this session we will cover:
- The Art of Effective Code Reviews
- Streamlining the Review Process
- Elevating Reviews with Automated Tools
By the end of this presentation, you'll have the knowledge on how to organize and improve your code review proces

SOCRadar Research Team: Latest Activities of IntelBrokerSOCRadar
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) has suffered an alleged data breach after a notorious threat actor claimed to have exfiltrated data from its systems. Infamous data leaker IntelBroker posted on the even more infamous BreachForums hacking forum, saying that Europol suffered a data breach this month.
The alleged breach affected Europol agencies CCSE, EC3, Europol Platform for Experts, Law Enforcement Forum, and SIRIUS. Infiltration of these entities can disrupt ongoing investigations and compromise sensitive intelligence shared among international law enforcement agencies.
However, this is neither the first nor the last activity of IntekBroker. We have compiled for you what happened in the last few days. To track such hacker activities on dark web sources like hacker forums, private Telegram channels, and other hidden platforms where cyber threats often originate, you can check SOCRadar’s Dark Web News.
