This document discusses the app container runtime rkt. It provides an overview of rkt, including what it is, its goals, and how it differs from Docker. Key points include:
- Rkt implements the Application Container (appc) specification and allows running containerized applications.
- Its goals are fast downloads/starts, verifiable/cacheable images, composability, and using common technologies like DNS for discovery.
- It differs from Docker in being more composable without a central daemon, focusing more on security through image verification, and using an open standard for images instead of Docker's format.
- The document demonstrates downloading images, verifying signatures, running containers in pods with options like

Windows Server Containers- How we hot here and architecture deep diveDocker, Inc.
Porting Docker for Windows is no small feat. The technology behind Docker today takes advantage of Linux capabilities like namespaces and cgroups. For native containers to exist on Windows and to have a Docker Engine for Windows, first similar primitives needed to be developed into the Windows operating system. In this session we will explain these Windows primitives in relation to similar primitives in Linux and other architectural changes on the OS and Engine side to make containerization possible. The process of porting includes not only the technology but also open source community interactions and cultural changes to enable this development. And of course there will be a cool demo…

Docker CE 19.03 is going to support "Rootless mode", which allows running the entire Docker daemon and its dependencies as a non-root user on the host, so as to protect the host from malicious containers in a simple but very strong way. Rootless mode is also attractive for users who cannot get `sudo` permission for installing Docker on shared computing machines. e.g. HPC users. In this talk, Akihiro Suda, the author of the Rootless mode (PR: moby#38050), will explain how users can get started with Rootless mode. He will also explain the implementation details of Rootless mode and planned enhancements such as LDAP integration.

DockerCon EU 2015: The Glue is the Hard Part: Making a Production-Ready PaaSDocker, Inc.
Presented by Evan Krall, Site Reliability Engineer, Yelp
Docker is an amazing technology. In particular, its build-once-run-anywhere model unlocks the world of cluster schedulers like Mesos and Kubernetes. These solve many of the problems of running high-scale websites, but introduce new challenges that need addressing.
In this talk, Evan will describe PaaSTA, a PaaS built on top of open source tools including Docker, Mesos, Marathon, and Chronos. PaaSTA provides tooling for developers to quickly turn their microservice into a monitored, highly available application spanning multiple datacenters and cloud regions. Evan will give an overview of the open-source technologies that power PaaSTA, discuss how Yelp has glued these together to give developers control without burdening them with the complexities of the infrastructure, and show the workflow used by developers to update and maintain their services on PaaSTA.
Using Containers for Continuous Integration and Continuous DeliveryCarlos Sanchez
Building and testing is a great use case for containers, both due to the dynamic and isolation aspects, but it increases complexity when scaling to multiple nodes and clusters.
However, the Kubernetes project provides a container orchestration solution that greatly simplifies app deployments in large clusters, and allows to dynamically run any containerized workload. Jenkins is an example of an application that can take advantage of such technology to run Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery workloads.
The Jenkins Kubernetes plugin can transparently use on demand containers to run build agents and jobs, and isolate job execution. It also supports CI/CD-as-code using Jenkins Pipelines.
The presentation will allow a better understanding of Kubernetes, and how to use Jenkins on Kubernetes for container based large scale, showing also the challenges of running distributed applications (particularly JVM apps).
Kubernetes is a container orchestrator platform, not the docker platform. It means we can switch to a different container solutions in the Kubernetes environment and the key point is the CRI, container runtime intface. We will talked about what is the CRI and how to use it in the Kubernetes world, we also introduce what is the OCI, the basic concept of the OCI, inclduing Runtime spec and Image spec.

Why React Native as a Strategic Advantage for Startup Innovation.pdfayushiqss
Do you know that React Native is being increasingly adopted by startups as well as big companies in the mobile app development industry? Big names like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have already integrated this robust open-source framework.
In fact, according to a report by Statista, the number of React Native developers has been steadily increasing over the years, reaching an estimated 1.9 million by the end of 2024. This means that the demand for this framework in the job market has been growing making it a valuable skill.
But what makes React Native so popular for mobile application development? It offers excellent cross-platform capabilities among other benefits. This way, with React Native, developers can write code once and run it on both iOS and Android devices thus saving time and resources leading to shorter development cycles hence faster time-to-market for your app.
Let’s take the example of a startup, which wanted to release their app on both iOS and Android at once. Through the use of React Native they managed to create an app and bring it into the market within a very short period. This helped them gain an advantage over their competitors because they had access to a large user base who were able to generate revenue quickly for them.
