Beware the Pitfalls when migrating to Hybrid Cloud with OpenStack
Companies are on longer asking if they should move to the cloud. They’re asking how to migrate to hybrid cloud with OpenStack. A hybrid cloud can offer a company the best of both public and private cloud, meet the requirements such as Cloud bursting, Disaster Recovery, Lifecycle-based Deployment, etc. But not if you slip into one of these pitfalls.
• Visibility: how to manage clouds with a single pane?
• Access Control: how to handle different credentials with security manner?
• Network Connectivity: how to manage network configurations and maintain connectivity across clouds?
• Outage & DR: how to ensure hybrid applications stay up during one cloud outages?
• Audit & Compliance: how to collect audit data and comply with regulations?
Some OpenStack projects/features like tacker, tricircle, freezer, federated identity, sso, etc have collaborated to address these problems. In this session, I’ll share:
• The pitfalls in OpenStack
• What are different teams working on
• Solutions and mitigations

This is a talk given at Cloud Expo Bootcamp at Santa Clara. In this talk I highlight the importance of open source in the cloud based world. I argue why federated clouds are the future and how only open source can help promote such an ecosystem.
soCloud: distributed multi-cloud platform for deploying, executing and managi...Fawaz Fernand PARAISO
Multi-cloud computing has established itself as a paradigm of choice for creating very large scale world wide distributed applications. Multi-cloud computing is the usage of multiple, independent cloud environments, which assumed no priori agreement between cloud providers or third party. However, these applications, designed for multi-cloud environments, have to face real challenges in term of design, architecture, and technology. The possibility of using multi-cloud faces the heterogeneity and complexity of cloud solutions. Thus, multi-cloud computing has to face several challenges such as portability, provisioning, elasticity, and high availability we have identified in this thesis.
In this thesis, we propose soCloud both a model and a platform that tackle these four challenges. This model is based on the OASIS Service Component Architecture (SCA) standard to design distributed large scale applications for multi-cloud environments. A new language is proposed to effectively express the elasticity of multi-cloud applications through abstraction. The multi-cloud platform is designed to deploy and manage distributed applications across multi-clouds.
The soCloud model is illustrated on three distributed applications deployed in multi- cloud environments. The soCloud platform has been implemented, deployed and experimented on top of ten existing cloud providers : Windows Azure, DELL KACE, Amazon EC2, CloudBees, OpenShift, dotCloud, Jelastic, Heroku, Appfog, and an Eucalyptus private cloud. These experiments are used to validate the novelty of the contributed solutions.
With our contributions, we aim to provide a simple and effective way to design, deploy, run, and manage distributed applications for a multi-cloud environment by proposing a model and platform.

Creating Your Own Cloud Using OpenStack by Raghvendra V PrabhuRaghavendra Prabhu
OpenStack is an open-source platform used to develop, build and deploy a private cloud IaaS platform. With OpenStack software installed on top of a virtualized environment, it is possible to form a cloud operating system to organise, provision and manage resources. It is even possible for individual users to use a management dashboard and OpenStack API to allocate resources such as storage, network and processing power themselves. Going deeper than merely storing data, it is an alternative for companies or individuals looking to provide a cloud platform as a service with a whole host of features such as lifecycle automation or user self-service, amongst others.
The industry needs cloud solutions built on an open, extensible architecture that delivers consistent access to infrastructure, runtimes and application resources. As customers continue to adopt cloud service-based solutions, they need to avoid vendor lock-in, simplify building of complex cloud environments, and quickly develop cloud-ready applications that drive massively scalable cloud models.

The Cloud computing trend is increasingly commoditizing and delocalizing several different elements of the computing stack. It all started with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) but companies are starting to quickly understanding and leveraging the value of Platform/Middleware as a Service (PasS/MaaS).
Cloud Messaging is an example of PaaS/MaaS services at the foundation of virtually all cloud-applications. This webcast will introduce the use case for cloud messaging, and will demonstrate how a very efficient Cloud Messaging solution can be built end deployed on a public or private cloud using OpenSplice DDS and its technology ecosystem. This presentation explores the technical and business benefits deriving from the use of OpenSplice at the foundation of a Cloud Messaging solution.

One of the biggest challenges when maintaining Oracle software, is the number of components to be considered and the corresponding number of trace files. This is especially the case if you are operating Grid Infrastructures because there are additional steps of complexity added. Analysing Real Application Clusters with two or more nodes involves additional analysis due to increasing number of additional trace logs. This session introduces you to Trace File Analyzer Collector ("TFACTL"), a CLI tool, which integrates several analysis tools to monitor various GI/DB components even on multiple nodes.

Showing only reports of data is only a part of the whole story. To be able to make correct decisions, additional information is needed. But most of the information, specifically documents and information outside database, are not recognized by BI reports. With the portal idea, we visualize the IoT Data with PowerBI and provide additional values by showing reports, documents and additional information in one portal. Users will get a real "single point of information" for that topic. An example with a demo will be shown.

First Steps of an Oracle-expert in the Big Data World. Everyone speaks about Big Data. But what does it mean? This speech focuses on one animal of the Big Data Zoo - Cassandra and answers the following questions:
- Why another database?
- There is Impala and Spark. Why would I need Cassandra?
- New database - do I need to learn a new language?
- How do I get the data in?
- Can I use SQL?
- Is it part of a distribution, for example Cloudera?
Demos will explain the theory.
The Adoption of Cloud Technology by Enterprises - A Whitepaper by RapidValueRapidValue
If we go back in time, people were dependent on the physical computer storage or servers in order to run their programs. Now, with the introduction of cloud computing, people, organizations and enterprises are able to access their programs through the Internet. Cloud computing is gaining prominence, rapidly, and the popularity is growing, each day. Cloud computing is big business, today.According to PC Magazine, it was, already, generating around $100 billion a year in 2012. It is forecasted to increase up to $270 billion by the year 2020.
Enterprises and organizations, these days, are relying heavily on the cloud services and cloud platforms to obtain resources on-demand and that too, in an automated manner.
Organizations can, now, only pay for the resources that they use. Enterprises, also,
relinquish unnecessary resources with the help of using a self-service portal. This serves as a big cost-effective solution, as you can eliminate the need for investing a huge sum of money as capital investment.
This paper addresses the primary reasons for the enterprises migrating to the cloud infrastructure, various types of cloud deployment (technology & services) models IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, public cloud, private cloud and hybrid cloud, feature comparison of three popular cloud platforms - AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and some examples of how enterprises and consumers are using the cloud technology.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
