4. CVIF DLP
The CVIF-DLP was developed by spouses Dr. Christopher Bernido and Dr. Ma.
Victoria Carpio-Bernido. The Bernidos are 2010 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees
and renowned physicists who earned their doctorate degrees in physics from
the State University of New York. In the 1980s they headed the National
Institute of Physics at the University of the Philippines and were university
awardees for teaching and research excellence.
In 1999 the Bernidos moved back to the Bohol and took over the Central
Visayan Institute Foundation, a small, struggling high school located in the poor,
remote municipality of Jagna in Bohol. Faced with the challenges of basic
education in the country, in 2002 the Bernidos developed and implemented the
CVIF-Dynamic Learning Program (DLP) as a means to improve student
performance. On its first year of implementation, four (4) seniors of CVIF were
able to pass the UP college admission test. This number continued to rise until
its 6th year of implementation where 10% of CVIF’s graduating students were
UPCAT passers. Up until the present, CVIF maintains its track record of an
average of 10% of its graduating students passing the UP entrance exams.

6. CVIF-DLP’s Response:
For schools which lack qualified
teachers: bypass the lack of
teachers.
For schools with good teachers:
redefine the role of teachers.
8. For all subjects, there is no
introductory lecture before students
do the learning activities (questions,
problems, etc.).
Lectures and class discussion are
done only about 1/4 of the time (the
rest being allotted for written
activities).
9. Students learn how to work independently without close
supervision ( about 70% of the time the subject teacher is
outside of the classroom ).
Students become responsible for their own learning.
Students become more confident and able to investigate
problems and find solutions.
Students become resilient in the face of difficulties.
