A. Reviewing previous
lesson or presenting new

Preliminary Activities:
The teacher will asks student to lead the prayer.
The teacher will check the attendance of the students;
“For your attendance may I know who is absent?”
“Very good, everybody is present!”
The teacher will/shall….
One of students volunteers to lead the prayer.
The students will response;
“Everybody is present, ma’am.”
The students will/shall….
Review Previous Lesson:
 Presents a picture.
 Asks “Observe the picture. What do you think they
are doing? What do you think is this?”
“Very good! The question is, what is
communication?”
Present the New Lesson:
 Asks the following questions:
“Why do you think someone says…
 Stand straight and speak louder!
 How are you? Are you busy these days?
 You can make it this time. I believe this is
your right time.”
“We say a lot of things to different people for a reason.
These reasons or purposes are what we call
FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION.”
 Answers the questions being asked
about the previous lesson.
“They are talking, ma’am.”
“They are communicating. It’s
communication.”
“Exchanging of words or information.”
 Listen as the teacher discusses.

 Asks “What do you know about the basic functions
of communications?”
“Communication has various functions; these are
Motivation, Information Dissemination, Control,
Emotion Expression, and Social Interaction.”
1. MOTIVATION- Communication that motivates or
encourages people to live better. (cheers,
quotation, bible verses, advices)
Ex: -You can do it! Just believe in yourself.
2. INFORMATION DISSEMINATION- is a function
used when we aim to share information data,
facts, announcements, news, information based
on the given evidence.
Ex: -Announcement: There will be a summative
examination next week about the lessons we
discussed for the 1st Quarter.
3. CONTROL/REGULATION- We use this function to
control behaviour (instructions, request,
commands)
Ex: -Go straight ahead and turn right!
4. EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION- Communication
facilitates people’s expression of their feelings and
emotions. (express, accept, deny, affirm)
Ex: -I sincerely apologize for my mistake.
5. SOCIAL INTERACTION- Allows individuals to
interact with others. (greetings, getting to know,
chit chats, catching up, questions)
 Listen to the teacher as she discusses
the functions of communications. Ask
questions if necessary or give additional
insights.
Ex: -Hi! How are you?

and practicing skills #2
 Conduct an activity and let the students identify
the functions of communication used in the given
situations.
Direction: Identify the functions of communication
used for each situation.
1. Rico meets Angel at the party; then they start
talking about their career.
2. A science teacher explains the causes of
volcanic eruption.
3. The regional director is very emotional in his
farewell speech.
4. A group of leader encourages his group mates
to perform at their best during their oral
presentation in English.
5. Mang Pedro asked Aling Maring to stop
blabbering about their son-in-law.
 Identify the functions of communication

F. Developing mastery

 Divide the class into five groups. Give each group
strips of paper containing a simple situation. The
task is “Respond to an effective communication
considering gender roles in home society through
a short play.” Apply what you have learned in
today’s topic and identify also what Function of
Communication is evident in the situation your
group had picked.
 The situation are as follows:
 GROUP 1: There is an Acquaintance Party in
school wherein students are coming from different
places.
 GROUP 2: Parents are talking to their children
about house rules.
 Perform the given activities.
 GROUP 3: Children are complaining about the
house rules.
 GROUP 4: A teenager motivates the old ones.
 GROUP 5: Class President shared about the
plans for the intramurals.
 Your presentation will be graded based on this
rubric:

individuals express their thoughts and ideas
clearly, fostering better understanding among
people.”

allows individuals to persuade others effectively
and negotiate conflicts successfully.”

Direction: Identify the function of communication for each
situation.

PROCEDURES TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting new lesson Preliminary Activities: The teacher will asks student to lead the prayer. The question is, what is communication?” Present the New Lesson:  Asks the following questions: “Why do you think someone says…  Stand straight and speak louder!  How are you? Are you busy these days?  You can make it this time. I believe this is your right time.” “We say a lot of things to different people for a reason. These reasons or purposes are what we call FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION.”  Answers the questions being asked about the previous lesson. “They are talking, ma’am.” “They are communicating. It’s communication.” “Exchanging of words or information.”  Listen as the teacher discusses. B. Establishing a purpose for a lesson  Presents the lesson objectives  Asks about the lesson objectives for clarifications if necessary. C. Discussing new concepts and practicing skills #1  Asks “What do you know about the basic functions of communications?” “Communication has various functions; these are Motivation, Information Dissemination, Control, Emotion Expression, and Social Interaction.” 1. MOTIVATION- Communication that motivates or encourages people to live better. (cheers, quotation, bible verses, advices) Ex: -You can do it! Just believe in yourself. 2. INFORMATION DISSEMINATION- is a function used when we aim to share information data, facts, announcements, news, information based on the given evidence. Ex: -Announcement: There will be a summative examination next week about the lessons we discussed for the 1st Quarter. 3. CONTROL/REGULATION- We use this function to control behaviour (instructions, request, commands) Ex: -Go straight ahead and turn right! 4. EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION- Communication facilitates people’s expression of their feelings and emotions. (express, accept, deny, affirm) Ex: -I sincerely apologize for my mistake. 5. SOCIAL INTERACTION- Allows individuals to interact with others. (greetings, getting to know, chit chats, catching up, questions)  Listen to the teacher as she discusses the functions of communications. Ask questions if necessary or give additional insights.
  • 4. Ex: -Hi! How are you? E. Discussing new concepts and practicing skills #2  Conduct an activity and let the students identify the functions of communication used in the given situations. Direction: Identify the functions of communication used for each situation. 1. Rico meets Angel at the party; then they start talking about their career. 2. A science teacher explains the causes of volcanic eruption. 3. The regional director is very emotional in his farewell speech. 4. A group of leader encourages his group mates to perform at their best during their oral presentation in English. 5. Mang Pedro asked Aling Maring to stop blabbering about their son-in-law.  Identify the functions of communication used in the given situations. 1. Social Interaction 2. Information Dissemination 3. Emotional Expressions 4. Motivation 5. Control/Regulation F. Developing mastery leads to formative assessment #3  Divide the class into five groups. Give each group strips of paper containing a simple situation. The task is “Respond to an effective communication considering gender roles in home society through a short play.” Apply what you have learned in today’s topic and identify also what Function of Communication is evident in the situation your group had picked.  The situation are as follows:  GROUP 1: There is an Acquaintance Party in school wherein students are coming from different places.  GROUP 2: Parents are talking to their children about house rules.  Perform the given activities.
  • 5.  GROUP 3: Children are complaining about the house rules.  GROUP 4: A teenager motivates the old ones.  GROUP 5: Class President shared about the plans for the intramurals.  Your presentation will be graded based on this rubric: G. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson  Ask students to recap or discuss the five (5) functions of communications.  Recap or discuss the five (5) functions of communications. H. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living “Why is it important to know the functions of communication?”  Answer what the teacher asks.
