Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a five-day Hindu festival of lights celebrated annually in autumn in which people light diyas and candles, set off fireworks, and light up their houses with lamps. It is celebrated in the Hindu calendar month of Kartika. The festival commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana and spending 14 years in exile. It also celebrates the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura. Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
