Distribution companies acquire legal rights to films, release and market them to audiences, and work to sustain films in the marketplace. Lionsgate is provided as an example, as it focuses on distributing independent films such as The Blair Witch Project, though that particular film underperformed compared to estimates, with its surprise release not leading to strong success.

● Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for
viewing by an audience.
● Companies have to acquire legal rights to own the film, they
have to release and sustain the film in the market place, and they
have to market and release the film.
● Works best with a vertically integrated company: they own the
means of production, distribution and exhibition.

3. Lionsgate...
● Lionsgate is an example of a distribution company who
distributes horror films. They distributed The Blaire Witch
Project, which is a film that i have researched for my planning of
our marketing campaign.
● Lionsgate focusses on independent films.
● It was estimated to make around $20M for the weekend, but
took in just $9.7M.
● The release of the film was a surprise, however it wasn’t very
successful
