2. Springfield Descriptive Paragraph
As I stepped out of the car, the smell of the hot asphalt hit me. I heard the low rumble
of voices and the high pitched screaming of babies. Mothers were hustling their
children toward the stadium. Little boys with their favorite team plastered on their
shirts ran past me, eager to enter the ballpark. Nearing the ticket booth, the smell of
popcorn wafted through the gates. This was the ultimate way to spend a summer
night, at a baseballgame.
After paying our way to get in, my dad and I found our seats. It was my birthday
and my father had a special treat in store. He had gotten us front row seats, a very
rare occasion for me. Son! Let s go, the game is about to start, said my father. We
excitedly rushed down to take our seats. The players were finishing their warmup ...

Both teams desperately needed those few points to claim victory. We re only
looking at one more home run to advance to the playoffs, said my dad excitedly.
The stadium became unusually quiet when our batter stepped up to the plate. The
visiting team s catcher signaled the pitcher. In slow motion, I saw the pitcher
throw a fastball and a few seconds that seemed like minutes went by, and I heard a
crack. The loudest, wood shattering crack of the game. I looked up and the ball was
on it s way over the fence into the crowd towards me. I raised my glove up with a
small hope of catching it. Come on son, you got this. This one s yours! yelled my
dad. A second later I felt something smack my glove. I was in utter disbelief, and
everyone cheered around me. This night had gotten so much better than it already
was. The game was over, we had won. Fireworks erupted above the stadium and lit
up the night sky like it was daytime. We did it son, we did it! We re going to the
playoffs! yelled my dad excitedly. It was a surreal moment. Upon exiting the stadium,
I couldn t wait for the moment we would return. But this time, it would be the
3. Bip 91 Executive Summary
NEW YORK (Reuters) Digital currency bitcoin on Friday averted a split into two
currencies after its network supported an upgrade to its software that would
enhance its ability to process an increasing number of transactions. Bitcoin s
miners have signaled their support for the so called Bitcoin Improvement
Proposal (BIP) 91, avoiding a split of bitcoin into two blockchains. The miners
represent a network of computer operators who secure the blockchain or a public
ledger of all bitcoin transactions BIP 91 is the first step toward a larger effort to
upgrade bitcoin through a software called SegWit2x. On Friday, the support for BIP

Demand for bitcoin has grown in eight years to a market capitalization of more
than $40 billion. But fears about the bitcoin split dampened demand for bitcoin in
recent weeks. After hitting record high near $3,000, bitcoin dropped as low
$1,830 BTC=BTSP on the Bitstamp platform. On Friday, it traded at $2,647. The
software upgrade attempts to address the bitcoin network s limitations in
processing millions of daily transactions. Bitcoin s network has not kept pace with
its growth and is unable to process all the transactions fast enough. BIP 91
unleashes the next wave of innovation because it has been a little bit stagnant of
late for bitcoin, said Rob Viglione, co founder of ZenCash, a digital coin focused on
privacy and security. Before BIP 91 s endorsement, some bitcoin investors feared it
could split into two independent currencies because core developers of the network
and the miners each wanted different ways to increase bitcoin s
4. What Is Raskolnikov Guilt
When first reading Crime and Punishment, I had little understanding of Raskolnikov
s reason of confession and his feeling of guilt in the novel. Because, I thought that
Raskolnikov truly believed in his own theory that he is an extraordinary man. I also
believed that he was a cold lifeless person for killing a old lady just because he
thought she was vermin. But, after reading the novela group presented to the class the
theme of guilt and why it was so important to the novel; I soon came to the realization
that the novel heavily shows that guilt leads to suffering which means your suffering
can lead to your death. After listening to this group present their idea of guilt I
reflected on where else guilt led to suffering and one moment that
5. Holden Caulfield Alienation
From the beginning of the novel, Holden seems to be, to some extent, isolated
from the society around him and victimized by it at the same time. Holden says to
Mr. Spencer that he feels himself on the other side of life, and he relentlessly
attempts to find his own way in a world in which he does not belong. In this way,
the theme of alienation is quite prevailing in Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye. So,
this essay will focus on the world where alienated Holden lives and how he would
live in terms of current society.
To begin with, it is important to define alienation since the main part of the essay will
be centered on this aspect. Alienation means being isolated but in a quite different
way. A particular person is alienated when his or her inner self is estranged from the
surrounding society, world and environment. Holden Caulfield from the novel The
Catcher in the Rye in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His ethical maximalism makes him totally unsuited to the real world. But, as the
novel progresses, Holden s alienation seems to be the way he actually protects
himself. He acts like his isolation is a proof that he is better than other people
around. However, in point of fact, interactions with people mostly confuse him,
and his cynicism serves as a kind of self protection. Also, his alienation is a direct
response to what he sees in society, namely, that people, mostly, ignore emotional
realities of others. Sometimes I act a lot older than I am I really do but people
never notice it. People never notice anything (Salinger, p. 9). On the other hand, his
isolation is a root of most of his problems. Generally, he only needs a person to love
and to talk with. However, he does not want to ruin his protecting wall even when he
is on the date with Sally Hayes, he insults her and kick her away. Throughout the
novel, Holden depends on his isolation, but it gradually destroys

August 29th, 2016. That was my first day of school at College of Southern
Nevada. It has been about 10 years since last time I took a class at a local
community college in Cerritos, California and I couldn t get over the
overwhelming feeling of being back in school. After all these years I am finally
able to pursue my educational goal so I can achieve my dream. Looking back, I
never thought I was able to actually start school and restart my education. There
were life experiences that made it hard for me to be able to dream about going to
school and find something meaningful to do with my life. After going through all
the hardship in my life I want to say that no matter what type of situations anyone
is given, never give up on the journey to achieve dreams. Many people deal with
hardships in their life and I m definitely not claiming that I m special but I want to

Banks are not the only financial intermediary from which corporations can obtain
financing. What are the other intermediaries? How much financing do they supply,
relative to banks, in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan? The other financial
intermediaries include insurance companies, mutual funds and pension funds. In
Japan, banks provide more financing than other financial intermediaries do. In the
U.K., other financial intermediaries provide substantially more financing. In the U.S.,
banks are less important sources of financing compared to financial intermediaries.
While in Europe, financing provided by banks and financing provided by other
financial intermediaries are approximately equal. 3.Why is transparency important in
a market based financial system? Why is it less important in a bank based system?
Transparency is essential in a market based system, but is not necessarily a
requirement for a bank based system. In a bank based system, banks have long
standing working relationships with the companies seeking financing, and banks
have on going access to information about the firm. In a market based system,
creditors and equity holders require that financial information about companies
seeking financing be available, sufficiently detailed and accurate if they are to
participate in the market. This information, including audited financial statements,
allows participants in the market to make
9. Similarities Between Doodle And The Scarlet Ibis
Doodle, a young disabled boy, is a burden to his Brother . Brother, is very ashamed
and embarrassed of Doodle. The story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst shows how
Doodle is like the Scarlet Ibis. Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis have many of the same
conflicts and repeating actions in the story. In The Scarlet Ibis, Hurst develops the
symbolism, which is shown through birds, death, and the colorredshows how fragile
Doodle really is during his lifetime. One example of Hurst showing symbolism in the
story is through birds. Doodle and the scarlet ibisare both graceless and very weak.
The scarlet ibis tries to fly, but fails to do so. At that moment the bird began to
flutter, but the wings were uncoordinated, and amid much flapping and a spray of
feathers, it tumbled down, bumping through the limbs of the bleeding tree and
landing at our feet with a thud (Hurst 321). Doodle is comparable to the scarlet
ibis. He is very clumsy, and looked down upon by his family. They believed that he
was not going to live. He is shown through the scarlet ibis because the bird is also
very weak, like Doodle. They both have come over many obstacles to be alive. But
still, you never know if something so little to you, could break something so
fragile like a Scarlet Ibis. In the story after Doodle dies. It talks about how empty
the house was. ...the oriole nest in the elm was untenanted and rocked back and
forth like an empty cradle (Hurst 315). Now that the birds are gone and the tree is
not occupied, it is like the empty cradle in the house now that Doodle is gone. He
is shown through the birds. Doodle is just like the birds leaving their home. And
now that Doodle is gone, it is a very empty sensation lingering in the home he once
lived in. Doodle is symbolically a bird in the story the Scarlet Ibis because he is very
weak and fragile, just like the bird.
Hurst develops the idea of death, and it is symbolic towards Doodle and his family.
The idea of death has come over Doodle s family. Doodle is the smell drifting
across the cotton field into the room. The last graveyard flowers were blooming, and
their smell drifted across the cotton field and through every room of our house,
speaking softly the names of our dead

Konstantin Stanislavski was a Russian theatre practitioner born to a wealthy

In 1922, he staged Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky at the Bolshoi

tremendous contribution in not only stage theatre, but also through excellent
performance at the opera, sparked what may be termed as a revolution in opera at
the time. He stopped his theatre career when he co founded Moscow Art Theatre.
When Konstantin performed he used his own technique, the Stanislavski Method .
During the Moscow Art Theatre s early years, Stanislavski worked on a guiding
structure for actors to consistently have good performances. He believed that actors
needed to have real emotion when acting and, to do so, they could draw upon
feelings they d experienced in their own lives. The Moscow Art Theatre had a world

11. Essay On Pacific Theatre
World War II units usually focus on European warfare, however the Pacific theatre
proved more representative of the innovative outcomes from the war. The tensions
between Japan and America began with the Pearl Harbor attacks on December 7,
1941. The attack killed over 2,400 civilians and servicemen and caused America to
finally enter World War II. During the war, Americans created propaganda posters that
advertised Anti Asian ideas and the government set up internment camps for Asians
to eliminate any suspicions of a Japanese spy. American soldiers would force anyone
of Asian culture into these internment camps in the Midwest with only a handful of
possessions. Despite homefront struggles, the Pacific theatre was one of the most

The American military created an Island hopping strategy to reach the mainland of
Japan and gained islands like Okinawa and Iwo Jima to help build military bases
closer to the mainland. Although Americans were retrieving Japanese military
bases and land, Japanese soldiers were trained based off of the Bushido philosophy
which highly disapproved of a soldier surrendering rather than dying for their
country. President Roosevelt knew the challenges of the Pacific warfare and
contemplated with the idea of a mass invasion into Japan costing American lives, or
to create a weapon that would ensure American safety and Japan s surrender. Thus,
the Manhattan Project was developed to create an atomic bomb that would defeat
the Japanese. General Leslie Groves and scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer were
responsible for the creation of the atomic bomb, but they ultimately started an era of
terror: nuclear warfare. Although the Japanese were ruthless and American casualties
were increasing as Pacific warfare continued, the dropping of the atomic bomb on

12. Examples Of Heroism In The Book Of Exodus
The Book of Exodus is the story of the Israelite s escape from slavery through the
leadership of Moses and power of God. Moses demonstrates numerous heroic
characteristics throughout the Book of Exodus as he leads the Israelites to freedom.
As defined by Professor of Classics at Rutgers University Lowell Edmunds, a herois a
man, often of divine ancestry, [and] favored by the gods. In addition, Edmunds
continues the definition of a hero as one who is endowed with great courage and
strength...especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. Under this
definition, we can draw significant parallels between Mosess life and a traditional
hero s life. God chooses and favors Moses; he is born into a divine line, and also
granted great powers to aid him in his journey. In addition, he uses his God given
strength to lead and protect the Israelites. Lastly, Moses sacrifices his life to fulfill
his heroic responsibility, despite his original hesitations. These aspects of Moses
life and traits reflect significantly on his persona and prove his heroism. From birth,
Moses heroic destiny is clear. He is born into a family lineage of divine power and
knowledge, and then Pharaoh raises him. Although his biological mother put [him]
in [a basket] among the reeds at the river s brink, he is well aware of his roots
throughout his early life. This knowledge significantly affects his actions, which
reflect his inherent heroism. Before God confronts Moses, he sees an

Well this house wasn t like that; at least Jim s recollection pegs its presence as

Another symbol is Aylmer s dream. His dream can be considered as a foreshadow.
He has a dream in where he is during the procedure of taking the birthmark out of

success. We as readers know that that action of cutting and cutting will lead to fatal
end, but we do not know if Aylmer knows it. He probably knows it consciously or
subconsciously. The dream shows Aylmer s arrogance, his obsession about science
and pursuit of perfection, because he ignores the dream and its connotations.
Third, The story presents particular settings that described very well the situations
in the story, such as the laboratory and the boudoir. If we talk about setting, it can
be say that the lab seems to indicate Aylmer s work is in direct opposition to nature.
We have to think about some of the details there. There is no nature in the lab

flower, it dies. Well if we put on our symbolism glasses we can see that there you

19. Review Of The Essay This I Believe By Sarah Adams
In her This I Believe essay, Sarah Adams says that she lives by this philosophy; be
cool to the pizza delivery dude, because it s good luck. She goes about living this
philosophy because of four principles. The first principle expresses coolness to the
pizza delivery guy helps us practice humility and forgiveness . Letting the pizza
dude cut Adams off in traffic, or letting him forget to use his blinker serves as a
reminder to check herself before she puts up a fuss about others actions. Her
second principle suggests coolness to the pizza guy is a practice in empathy. The

I specifically enjoyed it because I agreed with some parts, but also disagreed with
Sarah Adams. Her first principle, coolness to the pizza delivery guy helps us
practice humility and forgiveness , is very true to me. I often find myself in a
situation where I am judging other people based on their actions, but I don t even
know the person. Adams analogy of letting the pizza guy cut in front of her in
traffic doesn t have to be taken so literal. Overall courtesy to the pizza guy (or any
person for that matter) can be appreciated. Some people take this courtesy for
granted, but forgiveness is another part of Adams principle, and it keeps you
humble. It helps me remember I am no better or worse than the pizza guy, we are
equal. The next principle relates to showing empathy to the pizza delivery guy.
Even if you have never had a job before, like me, you can still put yourself in the
pizza delivery guy s shoes. I bet the pizza guy does not want to be delivering pizza
to your house, so any sympathy and compassion directed towards him, like tipping
him heavily, would be appreciated. It s just like Adams said: they most likely took
the job because some money is better than no money. Adams third principle says
that pizza delivery is honest work, which I believe is very true. The don t have to

move to the suburbs, referred to as white flight. As jobs and employment moved out
of the inner city and to the suburbs, the African American residents lost opportunities
for work. Many poor residents were unable to move from the urban centers and they
became increasingly poor. Transportation barriers make it difficult to find and retain
jobs in distant locations and moving to the suburbs created concentrated areas of
poverty next to areas were the poor were excluded. Place Matters reiterates, the issue
is not just that families fled blighted inner city neighborhoods but that they ended up
in low density, economically segregated suburbs, and thanks largely to... Show more

The perpetual decline of the inner city neighborhoods led to further disparity
between socio economic classes. Discrimination practices in the housing market kept
minorities from moving to areas in the suburbs and declining values in inner city
neighborhoods made in difficult for poor residents to move. Mary Austin Turner
sums it as saying, when Congress passed the Fair Housing Act in 1968, America s
neighborhoods were starkly segregated by race, and black families were routinely and
explicitly denied homes and apartments in white neighborhoods. Persistent
discrimination practices have remained and many minorities continue to experience
discrimination when they search for homes. Despite progress, large urban areas are
predominately poor and are increasingly subject to failed policies that have
exaggerated the inequities between whites and
21. Summary Of La Belle Dame Sans Merci
Deceived
In John Keats La Belle Dame sans Merci, the speaker express his love for this fairy
woman where he explains, I met a lady in the meads, Full beautiful a faery s child,
(13,14). But he was Lured (33), to sleep with the woman who he thought once loved
him and as she said, I love the true (28). Why then if she love thee does he feel the
darkness of horrid warning gapГЁd ? Was it all just a dream? Or reality?
Firstly, the speaker as I assume is a man because he is talking about a lady he met
which he called her a faery s child, (14). As he said in the poem he was, Alone and
palely loitering (Keats, 2), That certain stanza made me pictured a man alone with
no sense of direction no sense of love. Lonesome. But they never went into much
detail on what he was doing or where he came from. Moving on, just from a few
lines into the poem the speaker s tone was coming off as melancholy. I got the
melancholy tone because the speaker seemed very sad and gloomy with phrases
as, O what can ail thee (1) almost sound like a cry for help or just a cry out of last
hope. He then goes on to say I met a lady in the meads, ( 13 ), as stated previously
but, this is when the poem turns from melancholy and alone to happy and almost
hopeful.
Continuing on, in this poem the speaker became infatuated with this lady. As he
said, I made a garland for her head, And bracelets too, and fragrant zone; (17,18 ) he
begins to fall for her and starts to be very taken with her

We sat in the back of a broken down Lincoln, his friend in the driver s seat, inhaling
cigarettes like oxygen. His newfound friends influenced him, changed him in the
worst way. You become the company you keep, I always used to tell him. They
took all I knew of him away from me, all of what I yearned for, all of what he was.
Yeah, he was there physically, but what he was went up with the smoke his friend
exhaled. I was still attracted to him. I wanted to feel every inch of his caramel skin,
run my fingers through the zig zag braids1 in his hair, lusting for the touch of him,
for the words I loveyou to roll off his tongue, for his lips to softly caress mine . . .
Close your eyes and smell this, he said. I trusted him enough to close my eyes, not
being aware of what was going to be presented before me. Besides I knew that he
would never hurt me or upset me. I closed my eyes and sniffed. The sweet and sour
aroma of mother earth tingled the hairs in my nose, making me yearn for what was
before me smelling what was supposed to be forbidden fruit. I wanted to taste its
sweet nectar and I was perfectly okay with tasting it with him. His being there just
made it better, made everything wrong turn out right.
That s what good green2 smells like. Open your eyes and look at this! he demanded.
I opened my eyes, allowing them to adjust to the cloudy air from the cigarette smoke.
I looked up and glared into his walnut eyes, awaiting the next set of instructions. He

23. Americans DID Land on the Moon
In the later days of May in 1961, President John F. Kennedy announced before a
special joint session of Congress, his ambitious goal of sending a human to the
moon before the end of the decade. However, this enormous goal, that would appear
to be a catalyst for domestic pride, has as many ties to the Cold War, as it does to the
moonitself. Regardless of this, when Apollo 11landed on the moon in July of 1969,
the entire country rejoiced. While some doubted the motives of Kennedy s goal, a
bigger conspiracy may have lay just beneath the surface; a conspiracy that could have
shaken the entire country and enraged the world. Many well known scientists and
government officials claim that the United States of America never actually landed a
man on the moon, and that the government faked the entire event for both political
and financial gain. Although much compelling evidence and contradictions have
been brought to light by the conspiracists, NASAhas successfully responded to all of
these in a robust and educated manor, that fully enforces the fact that the United
States of America did in fact land a man on the moon. The United States has never
been a country that shies away from a political advantage, and that is exactly one of
the many alleged motives for them to fake a moon landing. In the height of the Cold
War tensions could not have been higher between the two inter nation superpowers:
the USA, and the USSR. As seen in the so called Miracle on Ice and the World Chess

Four types of Organizational Change Theories: Van de Ven and Poole Dialectical:

Teleology: o Edgar Schein o Prochaska and DiClemente Life Cycle: Ichak Adizes
Conclusion
Introduction An enduring quest of management scholars is to explain how and why
organizations change. The processes of change or sequences of events have been
difficult to define, let alone manage. Researchers have borrowed many concepts
from many fields of study, including sociology, biology, and physics. Van de Ven and
Poole (1995) proposed four categories of organizational change: ... Show more

p 134). Phases three, four, and five are an elaboration on Lewin s moving stage, and
can be grouped together under the heading: moving toward change. These
straightforward phases are (3) Clarification or Diagnosis of the client s problem (4)
Examination of the Alternative Routes and Goals and Establishing Goals and
Intentions of Action, and (5) Transformation of Intentions into Actual Change
Efforts. Lippitt et al. return to Lewin s Refreezing stage with phase six: The
generalization and stabilization of change. A critical factor in the stabilization of
change is the spread of change to neighboring systems. A change is much more likely
to be retained if reinforced by colleagues usage. The final phase, achieving a terminal
relationship, focuses on preventing a dependency on the change agent for support and
developing a form of client self reliance for future problem solving. Lippitt et al. issue
a final caution, noting that the seven phases present are not always sequential, and
the phases can overlap or repeat themselves throughout the change process. Bartlett
and Kayser (1973) propose that successful change depends on a reactive redistribution
of power within the structure of an organization. This power redistribution optimally
occurs through a six phase series of stimuli and reactions. Stimulus 1: Pressure on top
management takes the form of both internal
25. Pros And Cons Of Reformers
Although there were many difficulties, the federal government was able to greatly
change labor conditions, while reformers also contributed somewhat. Many things
needed reform, such as conditions and hours. Muckrakers, who exposed bad
things, and books like The Jungle brought the awful conditions to the American
public and even the president s attention (Doc B). It even caused a bill to be
passed, the Meat Inspection which showed strives towards reform. Act. Reformers
like Alice Hamilton fought to get laws passed to help laborers. Some of these
laborers even included children (Doc C) This even caused the Keating Owen Act,
which prohibited products made by children under the age of 14., which again,
showed care towards reform. President Woodrow

Loyola Hospital believes in excellent patient care. EBP will improve patient
outcome and will lead to higher quality of care. The development and use of EBP
mentors and champions will be helpful in increasing evidence based practice use in
our department or hospital. According to Wallen et al. (2010), organization with
evidence based practice who has a mentorship program have a higher rate of EBP
implementation readiness than those who did not have EBP mentor and champions.
Likewise, having a EBP mentor will result to stronger beliefs and greater EBP
implementation by nurses which will result to greater group cohesion (Wallen et al.,
2010). в—ЏMentors will organize EBP workshop skills and rounds to build the
knowledge base of nurses.
27. Juvenile Delinquency Paper
Juvenile delinquency and the policies that handle the delinquent juveniles, has
been on the front burner for quite some time now and changes have been made in
response to their conduct. There have been a number of shifts in models used to
help deter delinquent conduct, as well as changes in policies to enforce laws and
give punishment when a juvenile breaks a law or multiple laws. The problem lies
with whether or not programs created by these shifts, that have been implemented
thus far, work or not. To understand this, a look at the shifts and why they came
about need to be looked at. Since the 1960 s there have been four major shifts in
federal juvenile policy. The first shift in the early part of the 1960 s, was the use of
community organization... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second shift, which is a major player for the changes in policy. Presidential
commissions studied problems as they pertained to crime and violence, and through
this study, recommendations for dramatic policy innovations came about.
Recommendations to decriminalize juvenile status offenses, to divert juvenile
offenders from official court processing, and to deinstitutionalize juvenile offenders
came about around 1967(Church, Springer Roberts, 2014). Through these
recommendations, the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) was
enacted. The purpose of JJDPA, was to deinstitutionalize status offenders, provide
additional funds to communities for programs, establish ways to deal with runaways,
and to remove juveniles from adult facilities (Church, Springer Roberts, 2014). The
third shift came about in the mid 1970 s. Violence and vandalism, for whatever
reason, was increasing within the school system so there came a more punitive
approach to handling these situations. It was viewed as an iron fisted punitive
approach for non status offenders (Church, Springer Roberts, 2014). Lastly, on March

The third scene in this episode is in the hotel s restaurant area, where all of the
characters gather to have breakfast together. The lighting in this particular scene

they are going to sit at, and the buffet area, where Joey and Chandler take some food
for their breakfast. While Joey and Chandler walk to the buffet area, the camera
follow both of them, in other word, a dolly shot. Although the shot was fairly shaky,

While the camera was panning, we could see at the right frame that Monica is
actually looking at them, then she talk to Phoebe about her getting married to
Chandler. We could see clearly that the director try to show what normal life would
be, boys talk and girls talk. Seeking friends for advices just like in a real life situation.
In the next scene, Chandler and Monica then decided to go to the casino, letting the
dice decide whether they will get married or not. While they are walking through the
casino, the sound only focuses on the characters, ambience sound is rarely heard,
where in the background, we can see people talking to one another, a waiter bringing
drinks to the customers, and people playing the machine. At one point, we can hear
cash noises from the machine, but even that, the sound is very small that the audience
might not have catch it. When Monica throw the dice to the table, we could hear the
dice rolling on the table clearly, and the worker talking clearly. During this scene, the
director want the audience to focus on the characters movement, not the ambience.
The lighting in this scene is again flat, and they lit the light brighter to the area
where the characters are going to be. Comparing it with the real casino, this casino is
the brightest casino we have ever seen. Later, when they decided to go back to their
room, Chandler and Monica was holding hand, still disagreeing that they should get
married. Suddenly,
29. Anterior Cruciate Ligamentous Injury Analysis
Introduction
The most common ligamentous injury to the knee is injury to the anterior
cruciate ligament (ACL) (Teske 2010), and it is the second most common injury
in the lower extremity. It has become so common of an injury that 1 in 3000
individuals in the United States will be affected with an ACL tear (Micheo 2010)
and there are 200,000 new cases per year (Wilk 2012). It is most commonly seen in
people 15 30 years of age (Teske 2010). It is also more common in females than
males (Fayad 2003, Teske 2010, Bowerman 2006). This is due to increased joint
laxity in post pubescent females compared to post pubescent males (Bowerman 2006)
and differences in muscle activation. Males tend to have a more balanced quadriceps

If a knee is hit from the outside, especially while the foot is planted, it will be
forced into genu valgus. This puts several structures at risk, namely the ACL,
MCL and joint capsule. These structures specifically prevent valgus forces and are
expected to be damaged when subjected to excessive genu valgus. The nature of
the force can also damage the bones because valgus will cause the lateral condyles
of the femur and tibia to be compressed while the medial condyles will be
distracted. This can result in bruising of the bone or damage to articular cartilage
of the compressed side. In addition, the menisci can be involved depending on the
direction of the force, especially if rotation occurs. The lateral meniscus can be
damaged without rotation if it is compressed between the condyles or with rotation
by getting torqued between the condyles. The medial meniscus is at a lesser risk
of being damaged due to compression because the medial condyles are being
distracted from one another. However, because it has attachments to both the ACL
and MCL, if one or both of those are damaged, the medial meniscus is at risk.
Therefore, a 20 year old male rugby player who was side tackled may very well
present with a torn ACL, MCL, and medial
30. Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Society Essay
In Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream Speech, he states I look to a day when
people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their
character , this appeals to the emotions that judging based on a person s race is
wrong. For this reason affirmative action in higher education admission should alter
for it creates a perpetual racial preference in admission.
Affirmative action is controversial due its issue of whether the generation of today
should pay for the past injustices done to certain ethnicities. It questions the
constitutionality of its existence and whether it perpetuates racial discrimination.
Although affirmative action greatly promotes diversity and exposes diverse
perspectives in an educational field, it s time to realize its modern predicaments and
visualize how to better progress terms of admission for the future of the diversified
generations of America. Thus it is vital to address the reasons why prolonging
affirmative action hinders the creation for better opportunities to those at a
disadvantaged.
The dilemma of affirmative action is defining equal opportunities, especially to
ethnicities who historically felt injustice. The famous U.S landmark case Regents of
the University of California v. Bakke (1978), where Allan Bakke, a white man, was
twice rejected to University of California Medical School at Davis, ruled that racial
quotas violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment , however race

Seventy five percent of girls have low self esteem, and they have engaged in
harmful activities. Self esteem is only one of the Forty Developmental Assets. What
are the Forty Developmental Assets? They are a set of building blocks that helps
teenagers and people build up a healthy life. All good friends should have the
Developmental Assets. In the novel, The Pigmanby Paul Zindel, Lorraine Jensen
demonstrates being caring, but she is missing self esteemand positive peer influence.
First, the character of Lorraine Jensen is missing a very important asset which is
number thirty eight, Self esteem. This is when a teenager has a high self esteem

Although Lorraine is missing Self esteem and Positive Peer Influence she is very
Caring, asset number twenty six. Caring is when a teenager or person places high
value on helping other people. Another example is how she doesn t think it is right
to take money from the Pigman. For instance, Lorraine says, Because it s wrong to
take money from an old man, that s why, (30). This shows that Lorraine feels like
if they were to take the money from the Pigman that she would be taking advantage

because there is no real reason to take it if they are just going to keep it for

J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish
At first glance, J.D. Salinger s short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish is the story
of a psychically torn war veteran whose post traumatic stress moves him to take his
own life while on a second honeymoon with his wife. Indeed, that is the story, but that
first glance does not reveal the inner motives and symbolic pathways Seymour Glass
takes to reach the final decision to end his life. The carefully placed details and
minute innuendoes are deliberate on Salinger s part, and they represent pieces of the

Now, if instead of ?See More? Glass we define him as ?See More Glass? then I
have a slightly more cryptic interpretation for his name. Now, the Glass family is
Jewish, as is established in Salinger?s Nine Stories, and Seymour is a veteran of
World War II. Before America?s involvement in the war, on November 9th, 1938,
there was a very violent uprising of Reich citizens against the Jewish population
orchestrated by Joseph Goebbels. During that time thousands Jewish citizens were
rounded up for concentration camps and their businesses were destroyed, littering
the streets with glass from their storefronts. That night came to be known as the
Kristallnacht, or in English, the ?Night of Broken Glass.? Though I know there is
no direct link to this night in the story, and indeed it took place before Seymour
was even in Europe, it has a direct link to the first major violence against Jews as
well as a sharp spike in the number of Jewish adults who committed suicide to
escape the horrors of the Reich. The perhaps far fetched, I feel this more esoteric
interpretation of Seymour?s name could well represent the link to the horrors he
experienced during his tenure in World War II.
A name is a metaphysical representation of a person, but there are physical hints in
Seymour?s characterization that hint towards a greater purpose in his actions. Muriel

34. Analysis Of Wisdom
Stoicism defined in chapter 7 of Archetypes of Wisdom: An Introduction to
Philosophy, is a philosophy that advises one of self control, detachment from
external factors, and acceptance of one s fate as identified by the objective use of
reason. Ethical Stoicism seeks peace of the mind through the practice of self control
and acceptance. Unhappiness is a result of seeking anything that is out of one s
control. Nothing can make a person happy or unhappy without their consent, because
everything is a matter of perspective. Unhappiness results from bad thinking, and
confusing what he or she can control with what he or she is unable control. A
person who has the ability of self control and is disciplined, and rational can be
happy under all different types of conditions (Archetypes of Wisdom pg. 187 188).
By mastering the their mindand thought, it is believed that it is possible to control
one s emotional state of mind. By doing so the person is at peace and it is believed
that the person at peace is a person who is in presents with the World of Reason, the
Logos. This reduces the frustration because the person accepts their will and is living
in agreement with nature. In Stoicism, happiness is composed of the rational
selection of things according to nature ( Ethicsp.6). The person is an actor in a play
and is given a certain role in this play. It is he job to play the role and accept his
accordance to the role, by playing his part since it is duty to perform that part. If

worthwhile if the standard is only used once. This can happen in an overseas project

Next, a special checking system could perhaps be integrated such that checks can run
automatically to check if measurement units or description of the quantities have
been tagged properly. This would help the quantity surveyor to start taking off
immediately after receiving the model instead of realizing it only upon tagging or
when the quantities are exported to the BQ. This is to reduce time wasted on checks
and to increase productivity.
Instead of exporting the BQ to a normal excel sheet, the quantities can be exported to
a program similar to excel but one that would allow certain automation that would
allow a change in all related figures when one such figure is changed. For example,
when a quantity for doors are changed, the summary and thus, the total quantity
should be changed as well. This is to reduce the chances of error when changes are
made.
Lastly, I would suggest that there is an automatic way to integrate the substructure
BQ with the superstructure BQ. One that would be able to integrate without error.
This is especially important when the two models have the same elements in common
and ought to be placed together in the same category. Although this can be done
manually, it will be error prone, affecting the quality due to carelessness and other
human error. As mentioned previously, such changes will affect more than one tab on
the excel sheet which may be easily overlooked affecting many of the other quantities

36. Borderlands By Gloria AnzaldГєa
As human beings we tend to classify others by classifying ourselves (Eide 74 ).
Nothing wrong with that per se, if not for using problematic criteria, such as race,
skin color, gender, sexual orientation, class, religion, or ethnicity, in an often negative
and derogatory way. As soon as individuals or groups are considering themselves
superior, they inherently impose inferiority upon others, and discrimination and
bigotry is born. Equality is still far from being common practice. A large part of the
problem is ignorance; ignorance about other cultures, religions, gender range,
ethnicity and many other characteristics. In her book Borderlands: La Frontera,
Gloria AnzaldГєa describes how she has hopes for a new humanity, not inhibited by
race or gender or any other social, political or ethical label; a hybrid form, an
epitome of all possible confluences: a cosmic race, with a rich gene pool and a new
consciousness (100 102). She believes this can be realized by uprooting all dualistic
thinking and teaching tolerance and openness from a very young age: nothing is

more: it can come in handy, but has no secondary agenda, and is to be used very
carefully. AnzaldГєa s concept of a new consciousness, though beautiful and
achievable, will need time and willingness to cooperate. And within that framework
people should accept the fact that they can, themselves, be part of the problem and
make an effort to help solve it. In a way Anzaldua s vision has already been in

38. My Blessed Life
Growing up, I never understood why my mother gave people things she didn t
gave to me. Like, why did she hugged the crying girl next door and not her own
crying daughter? In my mother s defense, my siblings and I had more than enough.
In fact, my mother reminded us daily of how privileged and spoiled my siblings and
I were. However, this blessed life was the work of my parents and it did not belong to
me. If I wanted a life as blessed as my childhood, I would have to earn it. In my
mother s own words, Cho người ta ăn thì còn, con ăn thì hết , or
giving back and helping others are ways to earn a blessed life. I only helped people
when I was little because I wanted my mother s approval and love. But, slowly I
realized the power of giving and learned to instinctively give because I wanted to.
Hence, I believe that if I give I will always have.
My mother s words rang true in my life as I encountered hard times as an
adolescence. Last year, I attempted suicide because I thought dying could end my
sorrows and heartaches. Depression took a toll on me and the agony became
intolerable at times. Even at my lowest, my mother forced me to give, since to her
giving will always bring joy, love, and happiness. I resented my mother, as I never
understood why she forced me to give when all I had was desperation and woe. I
didn t listen to her, instead, I forced my woes and depression onto the arms of other
loved ones. I burdened my friends with my depression, however they never
stopped listening to my rants and never gave up on me. I am grateful for my
friends who cared enough to listen to me and to console me. I know my friends
stood by me, because at their lowest I gave them my time and shoulder to cry on.
Despite the feeling that I had nothing left in life during my depression, I still
managed to live on. My mother doesn t know it, but her words had saved my life.
For me, being happy is hard because I can vividly see the errors and mistakes in my
world. I can t help but view the world with shades of blue. However, I am trying to
maintain a positive outlook on life and enjoy life as much as I can. Attaining and
maintaining a blissful life is easier said than done. Nevertheless, sometimes when I

when women were able to leave their homes and actually take an outside job, it
allowed women a bit confused as to what roles she needed to partake in. Given that
men were always gender policing women to fit the ideal role, the women found it
difficult to transitions and thus loose a sense of self along the way. De Beauvoir
also states that gainful employment can stop the cycle of dependency on man and
thus allow the two genders men and women to see each other s as equals. It is
within the book The Second Sex that De Beauvoir tries to understand the imbalance
of gender roles to help her understand this she turns to the biology, psychoanalyst and
the historical materialism. In her findings, she reveals that although there are some
physical differences between women and men there is no proven facts that women
cant do the same task as men in a workforce. According to Patricia Hill Collins,
women s
40. A Current View Of Shiite Terrorist Organization
Although there are many terrorist activities brought to the public s attention daily,
most people only have awareness of a few prominent terrorist groups. Terrorist
organizations such as Hezbollah have made a significant impact in parts of the world,
yet few people have heard of them. Throughout this paper, characteristics of
Hezbollahwill be examined such as, formation, leaders, purpose, influences, financial
support, associations and their impact to the world. Finally, this paper will present a
current view of the Shiite terrorist organization Hezbollah. Hezbollah, a radical Shi a
Muslim group located in southern Lebanonwas formed with the purpose of liberating
Jerusalem through establishing an Islamic government across the Arab world as well
as the group does not acknowledge the authority of the State of Israel. There are many
names that Hezbollah has been referred to such as Party of God, Organization by the
Oppressed of Earth, and the Revolutionary Justice Organization. The United States
State Department labeled Hezbollah a foreign terrorist organization. In 1982, the
Shiite terrorist organization Hezbollah was founded as part of the Iranian s
government and led by religious clerics. Although it was founded then, Hezbollah s
foundation was formed around June 4th, 1967 which was the start to the six day war.
After announcing the foundation of Hezbollah by Ali Akbar Motashemi, Sheikh
Subhi Tufaili became the first secretary general. Within the next couple years
41. Essay about Criminal Law and The War on Drugs
Criminal Law and The War on Drugs
These records of wars, intrigues, factions, and revolutions, are so many collections of
experiments, by which the politician or moral philosopher fixes the principles of his
science, in the same manner as the physician or natural philosopher becomes
acquainted with the nature of plants, minerals, and other external objects, by the
experiments which he forms concerning them. (David Hume.)2
Our long armed and hairy ancestors had no idea of redress beyond vengeance, or of
justice beyond mere individual reprisal. 3
To determine what constitutes criminal law, is, as one learned judge has opined, a
work of art, it is something that may be easier to recognize than define ... 4 ... Show

And further, it cannot be neither a static catalogue of offences nor order of sanctions.
The evolving and transforming types and patterns of social and economic activities
are constantly calling for new penal controls and limitations and that new modes of
enforcement and punishment adapted to the changing conditions are not to be taken
as being equally within the ambit of parliamentary power is, in my opinion, not
seriously arguable. 9
In the relatively recent case of RJR Macdonald v. Canada (1995), the Supreme Court
of Canada, it was determined that the exercise of the power to make an act a
criminal one, a test is to be applied; one of substance, not form. 10 To be fully
fledged criminal law, the act prohibited must pose a significant, grave and serious risk
of harm to public health, morality, safety or security ...
And, so, how does this established judicial view apply to the business of keeping in

them?
As to the nature of the various illegitimate drugs and their effect on human beings

42. Explanation Of A Neural Network
First of all, we have encountered one major problem that is how to interpret a neural
network given its black box characteristics. We really wanted to try ourselves giving
interpretation to our results so that we dug into the existing literature and found out a
very interesting research paper written by Garson in 1991. In В« Illuminating the
black box: a randomization approach for understanding variable contributions in
artificial neural networks В», Olden and al. describes Garson s algorithm very
concisely so that we were able to create a user defined function on Python that
replicates the method. The interpretation of the method is provided below. The
outputs of the different algorithms in the context of our study are the following:...

We don t know the influence direction of the variable (given the PCA black box
transformation and Garson s output) but we can formulate hypotheses on the fact
that value companies tend to beat the market more often than growth companies.
Dividend yield and EVtoEBITDA that are our 2nd and 3rd most relevant variables
for Neural Nework output also support this previous fact high dividend yield paying
companies characterize generally value companies, while the EVtoEBITDA ratio
characterize the relative price of a company since it returns how many times an
investor is willing to buy the EBITDA (Earnings before interests, taxes, depreciation
and amortization) of a company when he purchases a share of the company. An
investor that invests in high EVtoEBITDA companies has generally good growth
prospects views regarding the recurrent earnings of the company. Finally, the factor
size is the 4th most relevant factor that affects our output and this fact is also
supported by Fama and French literature: portfolios formed over small capitalization
companies tend to out perform portfolios formed over big capitalization companies
over time. It is interesting to note that this feature is an output of the
43. Reflection On Mindfulness Meditation
This course has been a surprising and welcome change from my planned summer (I
was originally taking a 4000 level management course). Before this course, I had some
limited experience with meditation, but I was self guided and used two books by
Thich Nhat Hanh. I introduced some mindfulness meditation exercises to the officers
of the Kung Fu club, but nothing more than relaxation to help us with the (surprising
amount of) stress related to our positions. Going into this course, I was apprehensive
about true mindfulness meditationbecause I have PTSD and am afraid of uncovering
painful repressed memories. To ease this anxiety, I started out in my room with my
Pikachu nearby over the course of the class, only one memory reared its ugly head,
and it has been dealt with.
The online exercises were useful for guiding me through the class. My favorite
exercises were the walking meditation and mindful eating exercises. I discovered
that if I took the time to notice and enjoy my walk to campus, I was in a better
mood when I reached my destination. At multiple points throughout the few weeks,
I found something so beautiful I had to take a picture. The mindful eating exercise
was fun, and I used a walnut; I enjoyed it a lot more than I usually do, and may
want to do this exercise more often with different foods to see just how much the
experiences differ. I found the beginner s mind section from Mindfulness Training
Online relatable because I always approach kung fu practice with a
44. Harmony In Harmony
Harmony. As with all words, it is useful to return to harmony s roots. Harmony is
derived from the Greek harmos and the Latin harmonia: harmos meaning joint ,
harmonia meaning agreement . When we think of something that is in a state of
harmony, we think of components coming together to produce a pleasing or complete
whole. We think of old and new architecture blending in harmony; we think of science
and nature working in harmony. Perhaps most commonly, we think of the sound of
harmony when we listen to music.
Harmony in diversity means oneness in the varieties. Malaysia is a best country
proving this concept for many years. It is a country where it is very clear to see the
concept of harmony in diversity because people of many religion, race, culture and
tradition live together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actions speak louder than any words. If everyone starts living the peaceful, loving
way, things will change. But someone has to start and lead by example. Mahatma
Gandhi once said, You must be the change you wish to see in the world. We can t
rely on anyone else to do this. We have to do these ourselves.Acceptance,
compassion, and tolerance are the foundation of peace and harmony.Mahatma
Gandhi showed that peace ends suffering and oppression, not by warring against an
enemy but by bearing witness to wrongs and allowing sympathy and common
humanity to do their patient work. Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa lived
different aspects of peace, which was proven to be a viable way to achieve great
45. The Effects Of Television And Video Game Violence On
Children
Introduction
The following paper will examine the negative effects of television and video game
violence on children who watch and play these games. Speculation as to the causes
of the recent mass shootings in American schools and other public places motivated
me to pay more attention to violence on television and in video games and write this
paper. Most of these horrible attacks on innocent people occurred by a teenager or
young adult. Flipping through television channels, I started paying attention to what
type of media content is available for school age children, and questioning whether
the use of aggression or violence in media influences children. An alarming concern
came over me as I flipped through the channels designated specifically for children,
and viewed some of the shows and movies aired. The first show I came across was
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and although the four green turtles are considered
crime fighters, these weapon bearing turtles showed aggression and violence to
others. The turtles battled monsters and gangsters with ninja weapons like
nunchaku, staffs and swords. The cartoon characters were stabbed, beaten,
mutilated and clearly shown to suffer, all to prove the four turtles were macho.
After making a quick review of children s television shows and video games, I
choose to write this paper to demonstrate that children who watch violence on
television or play violent video games are more likely to develop aggressive behavior

their dispositions. To determine their dispositions teenagers, take an aptitude test that
determines the faction for which they are best suited. When Tris aptitude test results

47. Questions On The Word Equity
Introduction
The word equity has numerous meanings and to various people it is a symbol of
fairness or justice. The origin of equity can be traced to the deficiencies of the
common law. Beyond question, common law had flaws where any solution is
unavailable or where there was an availability of a remedy but it was not fit for the
plaintiff loss. Moreover, the common law was studded with formality. If two parties
engage in a verbal contract in case of common law, common law under no
circumstances will spot the contract not provide any remedy to it. This was one of
the major flaws because whatever be the circumstances. In many cases equity
stepped up and provided remedies irrespective of the fact that there was a lack of
formality. The main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the last 50 years there has been immense change in the law of equity. This can
be well justified by the maxim, for example, where the equities are same, the first
in time happens , and the impact on happenings, as well as interest which are
conflicting in nature and the maxim equity behave in personam its impact on the
working of the law outside the judgement. The whole structure has been
implemented with the aim of providing maximum benefit. The statement flexible
when law appears to be dominant, discretionary when law appears to be obligatory
and humane in its concern for justice rather than rights clearly signifies the
development of equity over the past 50 years. As a matter of fact, equity entails
discretionary features both in terms of application and even its extent which have
a deep impact on the issue related to domestic, as well as international law . By
and by equitable principles came out as a support to the Roman, as well as English
common law which are done in order to enhance or correct the body of civil law.
Maxim
The maxim of equity can be well described from the statement and the well defined
principles which are laid down so as to control the manner of the operation of the
equity principles. This helps to project the features of equity and in particular
contrary to the common law which has a flexible nature, impactful considering the
need of the particular person and more focussed to

49. Ender s Game Leadership
Ender s Game is a novel written in 1977, earning its author Orton Scott Card,
earning a Campbell Award in 1978, a Nebula Award in 1985 and Hugo Award in
1986. Ender s Game is a novel of science fiction, where the reader feels he is in a
game with the story protagonist Ender, and the other characters, enjoying and living
every moment.
The book talks about the story of a child who was admitted at recruitment academy
with the purpose of becoming the leading man who can save the planet from a third
upcoming alien invasion. Although it is a fictional and futuristic story, we can find
things that happen in real life, such as leadership. Leadership is very important in a

The leader is made with experience and knowledge.
Another leadership that is handled in the academy from Peter, Ender s brother, who
was able to trace its own path to try to perform his influence in the world of the
adults. While Ender was chosen and positioned as a leader, Peter demonstrated his
ability to become a natural leader.
In the book also it is noticeable the fact that a leader finds deficiencies and make
solutions to these deficiencies. Ender finds problems in his team and then try to
create alternatives to help the team win the battle. He detects problems by observing
that the formations are repetitive and easy to identify and seeking autonomy within
the group and that soldiers are able to operate freely, without contradicting the higher
command. He also asks the group how to solve problems, incorporating them into
decision making, making his team members to feel
50. The Four Elements Of Hip-Hop
1.4.1. The Art of the Streets
Hip Hop is a complex cultural movement formed during the early 1970s by African
Americans in the slums of South Bronx, New York (Dyson 6), it propagated outside
of the African American community in late 1980s, and by the opening of the 21th
century it became the most spread culture in the world. Hip Hop consists of four
elements: Deejay, Break Dancing, Rapping, and Graffiti. (Kenon 112)
1.4.2. Hip Hop Elements
The phenomenon of Hip Hop has reached every corner of the globe, due to its easy
form of express emotional or sociopolitical thoughts in a new and creative way,
throughout its four elements:
A.Deejay
Is a complex form of creating music samples from already existed ones, with the help

D.Graffiti
Is the most controversial element on hip hop, and tends to be its visual expression.
The definition of graffiti could be that it is a mural interpretation of the artists
inner that can be resulted in a drawing, writing, or a symbolic projection (Edwards
13 17). There are three types of the graffiti art: the Tagging, which can be a simple
form of one color only; second, is the Threw Up in which the artist may use more
than two colors, and the Spray is the third type where more colors and complexity is
used. (Gross 285)
The roots of graffiti started about 1971 by a Greek American who tagged TAKI 183
in all New York subway system, he declared that he used graffiti to create an identity
in which he is certain about (Fortuna 3), then it emerged all around America and the
world. (David 72)
Hip Hop isn t just four elements combined within a culture, it is also a way of life, a
language, a fashion, a set of values, and a unique perspective (Efrem 2), the hip hop
basic and sub elements have a strong impact in the American society mainly on its
