In 2011 there have been 49,900 women and 350 men that have been diagnosed with breast cancer
within the United Kingdom (Cancer Research UK 2014). Individuals who are undergoing
investigation for suspected breast disease can be referred for breast care services with symptoms or
are recalled from the breast screening programme. The National Health Service Breast Screening
Programme (NHSBSP) was introduced in 1988 which was due to the proposition of the Forrest
Report that had been published two years prior (1986).

The age range 50–69 is where mortality rate reduction was seen at its greatest. The main evidence
used in favour for breast screening and Forrest report came from the studies and randomised control
trials conducted in Sweden.
On the contrary Gotsche & Olsen (2000) disputed the findings of the Swedish randomised trials,
claiming screening for breast cancer is unjustifiable, as there is inconsistency within the
randomisation of the trial, as two of these trials found no effect of screening on mortality. A meta
analysis was conducted by Gotsche & Olsen on the Swedish Trials results. This meta analysis found
that 'for every 1000 women screened biennially throughout 12 years one breast cancer death is
avoided, whereas the total number of deaths is increased by six'. Other studies that were conducted
in New York, Canada and Edinburgh had also been criticised on the methods of randomisation and
validity.
The Forrest report stated that there must be a clinical examiner, radiologist and a pathologist within
a multidisciplinary team to ensure that there is expert knowledge available in each health profession.
Breast Services should all have breast surgeons, nurses, radiographers, pathologists, radiologists,
oncologists, breast care services manager and clerical staff, this is what is recommended by the

When I first saw it, I thought the title looked interesting so I decided to skim through it. It quickly
caught my attention because I myself had recognized the fact that different subjects have different
ways the material should be read, but I was unaware that it was an actual issue within education.
Just from knowledge that I have gained so far by being in the education program, I know it is very

involved: working out the details of the solution, finding imperfections and complications, and

University of Southern California (USC) established a system which provided some central
resources to accommodate and support the requirements of the whole university. It was called
RCMS. According to the university research committee report, RCM identified as an effective
system. However, the committee stated that some modifications are required due to shortfalls of the
system named as "perverse incentives", including discouragement of innovations, raising the
barriers on multidisciplinary researches, encouragement of multiplication of courses and
encouragement of manipulation of the financial data.
Discouragement of innovations was the main concern of the critics. The financial pressure imposed
on deans was forcing them to be concern about the financial aspects of their decisions rather than
focusing on main mission as leaders of an academic institution. This critique could be validated
because the main objective of each academic organization is encouraging and expanding the new
ideas which might not be profitable in the short term. However, neglecting these ideas will threaten
the university's long term profit.
Raising the barriers on multidisciplinary research is the next concern. These types of researches
require different perspectives, skills and expertise, which could only be acquired by a team work of
a group of researchers from different faculties. The multidisciplinary barriers were high even before
implementation of RCM. Therefore, blaming RCM as a barrier seems

In this literature review, the recent findings about spanking as a disciplinary method for a child is
70% of America adults agreed that it is 'sometimes necessary to discipline a child with spanking

This worked so well because citizens would "govern" each other into acting normal, or in other
words, the way the people in power wanted them to act. People became afraid to act in a way that

process of self normalization, due to the fact that they make themselves invisible and instill their

group. It is much easier to "do the right thing", rather than risk the chance of getting punished by

specialised fields that offers expertise and specific skills beneficial to the patient (MOH, 2014c)
At present the aim of Sues MDT members is to help her self–manage her diabetes, with diet,

The year was 1998. Three enormous cow patterned boxes showed up on our doorstep. Inside, was

School is a compulsory institution for many children who lie within the first world country bracket.
However, excessive use of disciplinary actions like expulsion and suspension have been a major
concern over the past decade in schools and juvenile facilities. The issue in regards to disciplinary
action within these systems is the misuse of punishment against adolescents and the course of action
taken within disciplinary process'. Therefore excessive use of punishment to an extent can then
become ineffective, high expulsion rates have shown to be driven by ineffective school policies (IU

alternative precautions? Is it ethical to allow punitive punishments to occur as a means with dealing

INTRODUCTION
The society today is faced with various problems. Some have always been there, others are new to
us, yet others have evolved from their older modes and taken new dimensions. For example we are
not strangers to issues of democratization, but certainly are faced with the changing mode of war
and terrorism. And then, new issues may include climate change. Whatever the category, man's
eternal struggle is to be able to resolve the issues that confront or threaten its existence. To do this
man depends on knowledge gained from studying the problems. However, as problems evolve, they
seem to become resistant to existing approaches, or at least, we seem not to be able to resolve them
using existing approaches. Thus those problems become wicked problems. In this chapter, we
discuss how such problems can be resolved using transdisciplinary approach.
WHY TRANSDICIPLINARITY?
The relevance of the transdisciplinarity approach is seen in the nature of the problem. Since
problems are now multidimensional, then we agree that a single approach will not sufficiently
resolve it (Brown 2010:16). Hence we need a transdiciplinary approach.
In chapter two of Brown (2010:16), there are some other reasons why we need a transdiciplinary
approach to wicked problems. They are:

Pre-Disciplinary Communication Reflection
On August 31, 2017 I spoke with Officer Burns via telephone in regards to his pending discipline
and some concerns that had been brought to my attention by fellow officers and supervisors. The
first portion of the conversation centered on his pending discipline and determining a date that
would be acceptable for him to attend a pre–disciplinary hearing with Captain Berger to discuss the
alleged violations. During this conversation I explained the severity of the violations and that based
upon the number of violations within the past twelve months he will subject to the progressive
discipline policy.
It was stressed to Officer Burns that he could also be subject to termination in the future if his
performance did not improve and he committed another violation. Officer Burns acknowledged that
he understood the severity of the violations and acknowledged that he was aware of the progressive
discipline policy of the city. After discussing the policy violations and determining an acceptable
date for the pre–disciplinary hearing, I segued to the topic of the performance concerns that were
brought to my attention.
The first instance I spoke with Officer Burns about was the concerns that were brought up by Sgt.
Adam Smotrich. Sgt. Smotrich detailed in a message to me that while on a call with Officer Burns
involving an individual experiencing an emotional crisis and wielding a metal pipe, he became
increasingly concerned that Officer Burns would be unable to defend himself. The reason for this
concern was based upon the perceived physical limitations demonstrated by Officer Burns on the
call. Sgt. Smotrich noted a noticeable limp and lack of ability to move laterally or backwards in a
reasonably quick manner.
This caused Sgt. Smotrich concern because he did not want Officer Burns to fall and be unable to
defend himself if the subject advanced quickly while wielding a pipe. Sgt. Smotrich indicated he felt
that Officer Burns would have been unable to adequately defend himself or assist him if he needed
it. Sgt. Smotrich also noticed that after Officer Burns handcuffed the subject who was on the ground
in a prone position, he labored to successfully get up without assistance. Sgt. Smotrich felt it

In your letter you claim that you submitted a Step II appeal on 01/15/2017, which was never
received at Central Office. You were then allowed to resubmit your Step II Appeal and your time
frames were reset. You state that to reset the timeframe is not in policy. You were allowed to
resubmit your appeal and the timeframes were reset as an act of good faith to ensure that you were

officer.
In your case the charge was delivered to you on 12/07/2016, by the Disciplinary Coordinator. You
were then seen by the Disciplinary Hearing Officer on 12/21/2016. You were provided more than the
required 48 hours to prepare your case, you were given the opportunity to respond and you were
afforded witness statements. No violation of Due Process
