2. DISASTER RISK ASSESSMENT
Can be define as the process of determining the risk by analyzing potential
hazard, evaluating existing condition, the vulnerability and the capacity.
Or is a process of determine the nature and extend of such risk, that could
together potentially harm, exposed people to serious problem, destroy property,
alter services and disrupt environment.
3. Step 1: hazard assessment:
In this section the rescues identify the type of hazard that initially occurred in the area
in the past or it can occur in the future.
This is usually the first step of assessment which then defines other step.
The assessment depending on kind of hazard, the tools need for assessment, the
technique used for analysis. e.g. earthquake requires different tools, technique than
flood.
5. Step 2: vulnerability:
This step is performed to determine the degree of vulnerability, the causes of
risk and all elements at risk include people, building and resources which are
prone to the hazard should be identified and an inventory is prepared.
Therefore in this step the degree, and causes of vulnerability are analyzed
determined.
6. Step 3: capacity assessment:
Means to identify the strength and resources available to reduce the level of the
risk or the effect of a disaster.
Involve evaluation of resource to know how soon these resources can be
deployed and become available to use, to find out how durable and long lasting
these resources are, it level of their operational integrity (ability to complete task
without supervised).
7. Step 4: people’s perception of risk:
The process of finding out the perception of heterogeneous group in the
community regarding the disaster, hazard and risk that they are facing.
9. Initial assessment:
Is the process used to identify and treat life threatening
conditions.
The in this type of assessment the nurse concentrates on the level of
conscious, airway, circulation, and fracture.
Base on the initial assessment you are able to determine the priority of care
based on patient presentation.
10. Physical assessment:
Here involve assessment of the patient compliant,
assess medical complaint base on the sign and symptoms, and Check the
patient head to toe to detect any abnormalities.
In physical assessment the following need to be consider {D.O.T.S}
D=deformities
O=open injuries
T=tenderness
S=swelling
11. Mental health assessment:
On assessment you are going to assess: A.V.P.U.
A= awake, alert, and oriented.
V= voice alertness.
P= pain responses.
U= unresponsiveness to painful stimuli.
And also assess {C.U.P.S}
C= critical
U= unstable
P= potential unstable
S= stable.
