The Diploma is designed for Ontario School Board Professionals who
wish to develop and enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities with
respect to the board’s business operations and functions.

Course Structure

•   Review online unit presentations, instructor commentary and readings.
•   Consolidate learning through discussions, assignments, and the final examination.

    understanding of how different Boards of Education operate.
Connection to SOQP
The Ministry of Education has approved 2 DSBA courses for
accreditation in meeting the business Supervisory Officers’ Qualification
program eligibility requirements:


(1) Introduction to School Board Administration
(2) Financing of Education in Ontario

Courses cover requirements for courses in school board finance and
school board administration.

These are equivalent to OSIE/UofT’s Masters of Educational Administration offerings: “TPS 1040 Educational
Administration I: Introduction to Educational Administration: Policy, Leadership and Change” and “TPS 1041
Educational Administration II: Social and Policy Contexts of Schooling”
Classroom Learning
Benefits of Our Classroom Format:
-   Concentrate your studies into a 5-day period.
-   Build connections during refreshments and the provided dinner and lunch.

What To Expect:
•   Attend 4 days of teaching and learning. Write your final exam on day 5.
•   Consolidate and validate learning through group and individual activities, engaging
    discussions, and the final exam.
•   Learn from your classmates’ and leverage their lessons learned as you apply your
    new knowledge and abilities in the workplace.
•   Benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of your course instructor(s).
Admission Requirements
 For Certificate Courses and/or Programs:
 Applicants are expected to have experience or training related to the
 course and/or certificate.


 For Diploma in School Board Administration Courses and/or Program,
 applicants must have:
           (1) An undergraduate degree or an associated degree AND
           (2) Work experience within the school board environment
 Special admission consideration will be extended to applicants who can successfully demonstrate
 related experience and training in lieu of post-secondary education requirements.

Connection to SOQP The Ministry of Education has approved 2 DSBA courses for accreditation in meeting the business Supervisory Officers’ Qualification program eligibility requirements: (1) Introduction to School Board Administration (2) Financing of Education in Ontario Courses cover requirements for courses in school board finance and school board administration. These are equivalent to OSIE/UofT’s Masters of Educational Administration offerings: “TPS 1040 Educational Administration I: Introduction to Educational Administration: Policy, Leadership and Change” and “TPS 1041 Educational Administration II: Social and Policy Contexts of Schooling”
  • 9. Classroom Learning Benefits of Our Classroom Format: - Concentrate your studies into a 5-day period. - Build connections during refreshments and the provided dinner and lunch. What To Expect: • Attend 4 days of teaching and learning. Write your final exam on day 5. • Consolidate and validate learning through group and individual activities, engaging discussions, and the final exam. • Learn from your classmates’ and leverage their lessons learned as you apply your new knowledge and abilities in the workplace. • Benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of your course instructor(s).
  • 10. Admission Requirements For Certificate Courses and/or Programs: Applicants are expected to have experience or training related to the course and/or certificate. For Diploma in School Board Administration Courses and/or Program, applicants must have: (1) An undergraduate degree or an associated degree AND (2) Work experience within the school board environment Special admission consideration will be extended to applicants who can successfully demonstrate related experience and training in lieu of post-secondary education requirements.

  1. GOOD MORNING -- Thank goodness it’s Friday! NAMEFROM UofG where I develop and manage a number of different Certificates and Diplomas – including those developed in collaboration with OASBOAndrew Seagram has asked me in today to talk about the OASBO/ University of Guelph Programs. Since we are a small group – please ask questions as they come up as I go through the slide please raise your hands and let’s talk about it. I’ll also take additional question at the end

  3. The OASBO and University of Guelph partnership has PRODUCED 6 CERTIFICATES; 1 DIPLOMA and 30 COURSES. We continuously improve these offerings with our committess supportSELECT THE COURSES that will help you THRIVE in your current role and STRIVE towards you career goals. NO PRE REQUISITES… Mix and match courses as you like – CHOICE only take courses that meet your needs FLEXIBILITY take courses when it’s convenient to you.

SO Let’s Start by Looking at the Diploma…..PURPOSE OF THE DIPLOMA is to broaden your KSAS and CAPACITY wrtSBBBUsi Operations & FunctionsThere are many reasons to join us and we have built our program to ensure it can support you in your general career as well as your capacity for leadership in the School Board. Our programs designed for WORKING PROFESSIONALS. Professionals who are looking to enhance their career potential – school business officials and prins VP superintendents/ DOE etc. Our adult learning approach ensures that learning is interactive and incorporates & leverages participants expertise and related experience.

Here is the Structure for the Diploma program. 10 courses – 6 online and 4 in classEXPLAIN 6 online courses (ignore SOQP)IN-Class Electives are selected by the participant --- You can choose 4 of the 24 available courses from our OASBO Certificates. You can mix and match courses from various Certificates OR focus/complete one specific Certificate.
  6. The format of our courses is as follows: CORE & ELECTIVEPossible to complete your Diploma in 2 years.
  7. OUR 6 Core Courses are performed online. In the bottom right – see a screen shot of our online learning platform. NOTE UNITS – NEWS – TIMELINES – DISCUSSION/CHAT – etc. Online learning requires self-discipline and commitment. With each course you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how to leverage the online portal for your learning and development. It’s important to set guidelines for yourself before you start in terms of setting aside time, setting priorities, negotiating responsibilities. BUT once you have it figured out -- the BENEFITS INCLUDE: WHAT TO EXPECTLEARN from UNIT Presentations – Instructor Commentary and readingsCONSOLIDATE what you learn as you discuss with your peers, work on and complete the assignments and close the course with final examsDISCUSSION FORUMS are a great way to share expertise and work experiences with peers & your peers & instructors will be great in providing a deeper understanding of how BofEd operate.
