The student created an image for a unit plan on the three branches of the US government. They searched for and resized pictures of Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence in Photoshop. They layered the Declaration picture over Jefferson's and used blending tools to combine the images. Text reading "Jefferson" was added and styled. The layers were flattened into a single photo that was adjusted for contrast, lightness, and saturation. The final image contained the Declaration and its drafter Jefferson to use when teaching about the American Revolution.

Digital Imaging Summary
- 1. Taylor Stephenson CI 350-201 Digital Imaging The image I created was designed to fit the theme of my unit plan based on the three branches of United States government. I wanted to create a picture of a founding father who had a great amount of influence on American government, so I searched for a picture of Thomas Jefferson. After finding my picture of Thomas Jefferson, I searched for a picture of the Declaration of Independence. Once I had my pictures, I opened the Thomas Jefferson picture in Photoshop and resized it to make it smaller. I then opened the Declaration picture and made it smaller, as well. In order to combine the two pictures on one template, I had to drag the Declaration picture onto the tab at the top that contained the other picture. Once the Declaration picture was in the right spot on the Jefferson picture, I added a mask to the layer. By doing this I was then able to use the gradient tool to blend the Declaration picture into the first layer. I then used the blend tool to soften the straight edges that were still visible on the Declaration photo. After blending the pictures together to create a mystic-looking background, I added vertical text that read “Jefferson.” I changed the font and style of the text, and added color to it, as well. After all the layers looked the way I wanted them to look, I “flattened” the image, which combined all the layers together as one photo. I was then able to increase the contrast and lightness on the picture while lowering the saturation in order to make it look more rustic. The final result was a creation that I would be able to use in my classroom as a poster or other visual during lessons on the American Revolution as it contains the Declaration of Independence and the founding father who first drafted it.
