ICDL Asia Digital Challenge competition started in 2017 with over 3500 students, 106 schools and 7 territories participating. In its 2nd year, the competition continued to receive overwhelming response from more than 7300 students, 300 schools and 10 territories. With the success and positive response, ICDL Asia will be innovating new competition concept to run “ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2019”.
Digital Challenge 2019 is geared towards practical digital skills required for various professional work in the marketplace today and for future.
2. Digital Challenge 2017 & 2018
• The ICDL Digital challenge was held since 2017. This year, it will be held in
Malaysia among student from 8 countries in south Asia in September.
• Bhutan Media and Communication Institute (BMCI) and Royal Institute
of Management (RIM) are jointly organizing in Bhutan.
• So far more than 500 Bhutanese youth have participated in the
challenge, 21 have been internationally certified in selected modules and
6 have represented Bhutan at the regional level with 1 bagging third prize
last year.
4. Objectives
• Platform for Bhutanese students to compete with
other Asian countries.
• Allow us to set international benchmarking on
digital skills of our students.
• Advocate the importance of digital skills in today’s
competitive age.
5. Digital Challenge 2019
• Participating organisations:
Sherubtse College, College of Language and Culture
Studies, Royal Institute of Management, Paro College
of Education, Gyalpozhing College of Information
Technology participated in the Challenge.
The first round was conducted at RIM among
fourteen students. 5 of them have been selected for
the National Round Competition to be held in June.
7. National Round
• There are two tracks/categories of competition for the
national round. One is Business & Finance (B&E) Track and
the other is Design & Engineering (D&E) Track. Students
who opt for B&E track will be tested on Advanced
Spreadsheet & Digital Marketing while the students who
opt for D&E track will be tested on Image Editing &
Computing.
• Of the 5 students, 2 have opted for B&E track and 3 for
D&E track.
• Top student from each track/category will be selected to
represent Bhutan at the grand finale in Malaysia.
8. Grand Finale
• The students will be given a theme based project on which
they will have to submit a report.
• The theme will be revealed immediately after the selection
of top two students from the National Round.
• The report will include business and social media strategies,
coupled with office productivity skills.
• They will get 2 months time to complete the report.
• They will present their business case report to a panel of
esteemed judges in September in Malaysia.
9. Student Support
• Since the students could not afford to pay for
participation, ICDL Asia gave a waiver for ICDL
registration and certification for two students
from each institute. Their travel and
accommodation was covered by their respective
institutions. BMCI and RIM coordinated all the
logistical support.
10. Further Costs Involved
• ICDL Asia will cover the costs for 2 nights’
accommodation and food for the two students
at the grand finale in Malaysia.
• BMCI has to raise enough funds to cover costs
of travel for 2 students, 2 trainers and
accommodation cost (3 Nights) for 2 trainers
in Kuala Lumpur
