Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Matt Ward from Digital Catapult (CDEC)
1. An introduction to the catapult
‘A national centre to rapidly advance the UK’s best digital ideas to market’
Matt Ward | Senior Partnerships Manager
@mwcatapult
2. What is the Connected Digital Economy Catapult?
Some Background
• The Digital Catapult is one of seven, soon to be nine, national
centres set up by Innovate UK to drive future economic growth
within each of their specific areas.
• The Digital Catapult’s main aim is to accelerate the best digital ideas
in the UK to market.
• To achieve this we build platforms and capabilities for small
businesses to innovate on at speed and with less risk.
2
3. In short we…
“We create collaborations with universities,
business and other not-for-profits to jointly
unlock the major challenges in the data
value chain in order to accelerate large
numbers of innovators to market.”
Neil Crockett, CEO, Connected Digital Economy Catapult
3
Collaborate > Unlock > Accelerate
4. Collaborate: who we work with
• The Digital Catapult never works alone, instead we
bring together a wide range of partners interested in
the success of the digital economy such as:
• Large businesses
• Start-ups and SMEs
• And the research and academic community to name
just a few.
4
6. The challenges we want to unlock
There are four main challenges we are initially focusing on:
• Building diverse data and content sets.
• Content reuse & reducing licensing friction.
• Personal data, trust and privacy.
• Next generation connectivity through building labs and demonstrators.
6
7. How we accelerate ideas to market
We rapidly advance ideas to market by:
• Unlocking major challenges that slow down UK digital
businesses in data innovation.
• Helping innovation clusters across the UK to link up
and collaborate through our Innovator Centre.
• Showcasing exciting innovation by startups and small
businesses in our centre.
7
8. Innovator Centre
Later this year we will open the Digital Catapult’s
Innovator Centre in London…
It will be an exciting new space for innovators, businesses and
academia to showcase their products and connect and collaborate.
8
9. How our stakeholders can engage with us
• Startups and small businesses can help us build our platforms; use
our platforms and capabilities; use our Innovator Centre; and share
their story with others through our website.
• Large businesses can connect with some of the UK’s brightest digital
talent through our Innovator Centre; sponsor some of our
showcases/programmes at the centre; work with us on specific
projects within our challenge areas; and participate in our industry
secondment programme.
• The research and academic community can participate in our
secondment programmes; collaborate with us on specific projects
within our challenge areas; and work with us on our commitment to
help the data scientists of tomorrow get the support they need.

Editor's Notes
Building diverse data and content sets
Many small businesses are unable to realise the full potential of data due to a lack of resources to gather and curate even openly available data, leading to missed opportunities for the creation of new products and services.
Reducing licensing friction
Existing copyright licensing practices primarily serve the needs of major deals between established players, but are not always best suited to the needs of a new wave of creative innovation by small businesses based on the reuse of content.
We are working with the Copyright Hub to create a service that allows copyright holders to offer their content for reuse under a variety of licences through an easy to use online marketplace.Personal data, trust and privacy
A challenging area, but one with plenty of opportunities. We are exploring ways to bring information owners and technologists together to share, combine and work with personal, proprietary and confidential data without compromising the privacy, security and control individuals have around their information.
Building labs and demonstrators
Within each of our challenge areas, we will build labs and demonstrators that provide easy access for UK innovators to emerging technology and services. This forms part our work to support the development of next generation connectivity, such as 5G, and white space communications.
The centre is for existing groups (clusters) across the UK to use as an additional facility to their normal activity and a place for them to link up. The centre will also be home to catapult staff.
- Startups and small businesses can help us build our platforms, we sometimes contract in when we need skills.
Use our Innovator Centre (when it opens later this year) to meet likeminded people and large businesses or to showcase your products or services
connect with some of the UK’s brightest digital talent through our Innovator Centre (when it opens later this year)
