UK businesses can apply for a share of up to £8 million for research
and development projects to create faster, more efficient immersive
content. This funding is from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

Aims:
We want to enable businesses to develop the knowledge, skills and
business insight needed to capture new global audiences by adopting,
exploiting and developing immersive technologies and experiences.
This will help the UK grow its leading market position in creative
content, products and services.

Scope:
The aim is to explore future commercial opportunities in the creative
industries, through pre-commercial projects, which enable the creation
of immersive content in faster, more efficient or novel ways.
Your project must demonstrate it can significantly advance the current
state of the art in its chosen field.

The 9 sectors in the UK Creative Industries:
1. Advertising and marketing
2. Architecture
3. Crafts
4. Design: product, graphic and fashion
5. Film, TV, video, radio and photography
6. Computer games and services
7. Publishing
8. Museums, galleries and libraries
9. Music, performing and visual arts

Your project must also:
• Involve at least once participant who is a content creator and
creation of content must be part of the supply chain
• Involve the development of tools, products or services necessary to
create and deliver immersive content
• Demonstrate innovation in software, hardware and/or development
methodology

Content Creators:
A content creator in this context is:
“An organisation within the Creative Industries that originates and
produces creative works that can be protected through Intellectual
Property Rights.”

Projects we will not fund:
• Projects or solutions in areas other than the Creative Industries
• Solutions which do not enable or facilitate the creation of immersive
content
• Project which request funding for non-UK based partners or sub-
contractors

Project size:
• Projects to £250,000 must be single company and led by a micro,
small or medium-sized enterprise (SME)
• Projects over £250,000 must be collaborative and involve at least
one (SME)

  • #8 Our projects are dynamic and change with the changing needs of industry sectors. Our project work ranges from producing roadmaps to influencing government policy on behalf of industry, to connecting the best minds from otherwise un-connected sectors to solve innovation challenges. We connect people who would not normally meet Here’s some examples of our work ..
  • #17 Must, means must! If it’s not in scope, your application will be immediately rejected – pay attention! We only fund game changers, not iterations or duplications of things that already exist, please. IP is key to ensuring that this projects will have the desired affect on the market. Our assessors will be scrutinizing this in detail.
  • #19 All of these are musts! Again, only game changing projects. We want to see both creative and technology innovation, not just tech! These need to make money, despite being pre-commercial we need to know any new revenue streams.
  • #20 If there’s only 1 company, that must be you. Otherwise a content creator must be part of your consortium
  • #21 This is basically the opposite requirements of the scope section, but worth repeating. You can work with non-UK partners or subcontractors but they can not claim funding We will not fund projects or solutions which involve the development or application of tools, products or services in areas other than the creative industries
  • #22 £100k-£250k £250k-£1m If your project’s total costs or duration fall outside our eligibility criteria, contact us at least 10 days before the competition closes.
