The study investigated the influence of differentiated instruction on the achievement level of
students in Social Studies and their preferred teaching strategy. The differentiated instruction used the think
pair and share, role play, graphic organizer, jigsaw and number heads together as teaching strategies. The
true experimental design was used where the participants were purposively chosen for the experiment.
The results revealed that the academic performance of the students (pre-test) is higher
compared to the control group. It further revealed that most of the students in the post-test got an
outstanding level compared to less satisfactory for the control group. There is a significant difference in the
achievement level between differentiated instruction and non-differentiated instruction. The majority of the
students preferred the think pair and share strategy.
The study concluded that there is a need for the students to improve their level of achievement
and it is essential to look into different instructional strategies for effective learning to happen. The think pair
and share activity is essential in teaching Social Studies. Differentiated instructional strategies greatly
influenced the achievement level of the students. One of the best intervention programs is the utilization of
Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) in Social Studies.
The Department of Education should continually develop policies or issuances on the quality of
learning that greatly influenced by the quality of teaching. School Administrators should look into
supervision and support in the use of differentiated instruction. Furthermore, teachers should use diverse
instructional strategies and utilize SIM to enhance the least learned skills of the students. It is important that
students understand their preferred teaching strategy so they can make the appropriate choices with in the
classroom.
Finally, it is beneficial to conduct further research on this study to cross examine the influence of
differentiated instruction on the achievement level of the students using other differentiated instructional
strategies. Researchers are encouraged to replicate this study in other subject areas.

  • 1. 1 ABSTRACT Title : DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION:ITSINFLUENCEON THE ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL OF STUDENTS IN SOCIAL STUDIES AND THEIR PREFERRED TEACHING STRATEGY Total No. of Pages : 100 Type of Document : Thesis Type of Publication : Unpublished Name of Institution : Saint Joseph Institute of Technology Butuan City, Caraga, Philippines The study investigated the influence of differentiated instruction on the achievement level of students in Social Studies and their preferred teaching strategy. The differentiated instruction used the think pair and share, role play, graphic organizer, jigsaw and number heads together as teaching strategies. The true experimental design was used where the participants were purposively chosen for the experiment. The results revealed that the academic performance of the students (pre-test) is higher compared to the control group. It further revealed that most of the students in the post-test got an outstanding level compared to less satisfactory for the control group. There is a significant difference in the achievement level between differentiated instruction and non-differentiated instruction. The majority of the students preferred the think pair and share strategy. The study concluded that there is a need for the students to improve their level of achievement and it is essential to look into different instructional strategies for effective learning to happen. The think pair and share activity is essential in teaching Social Studies. Differentiated instructional strategies greatly influenced the achievement level of the students. One of the best intervention programs is the utilization of Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) in Social Studies. The Department of Education should continually develop policies or issuances on the quality of learning that greatly influenced by the quality of teaching. School Administrators should look into supervision and support in the use of differentiated instruction. Furthermore, teachers should use diverse instructional strategies and utilize SIM to enhance the least learned skills of the students. It is important that students understand their preferred teaching strategy so they can make the appropriate choices with in the classroom. Finally, it is beneficial to conduct further research on this study to cross examine the influence of differentiated instruction on the achievement level of the students using other differentiated instructional strategies. Researchers are encouraged to replicate this study in other subject areas.
