A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES OF THESE MUSIC GENRES BLUES ROCK LATIN ROCK THE BEATLES Type of folk music created by African Americans from the Southern population after the U.S. Civil War (1861-65). Its lyrical songs express depressing feelings related to love, rather than stories. The vocal and rhythmic techniques are related to melisma and “choking” the guitar to produce a voice-like sound. “The Memphis Blues” was the earliest composition ever published written by W.C: Handy in 1912. Blues developed into three unique styles: Georgia-Carolinas, Texas and Mississippi. The first blues recordings go back to the 1920s made by black women, such as Ma Rainey. The Great Depression and the World Wars influenced in the blues. Also, internal migration spread the genre to urban themes. New instruments, such as: piano, harmonica, bass, drums came along. It started in the 1940s and 1050s in the United States. It has roots from genres as: blues, country music, jazz, and classical. It has emerged to subgenres as: punk, alternative, heavy and more. Some of its greatest composers are: Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan, Mayo Thompson The lyrics often include political views and social events. It uses guitars as primary instrument, acoustic drums, and recording effects too. The lead guitar is in charge of the melody line, solo and chords. The bass also plays walking bass; slap bass or funk bass, depending on the song. Elvis Presley had a great impact in its beginnings and some of the most famous bands include: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd. It´s a subgenre derivative from the the rock music. It usually mixes Latin America and Caribbean folk music. In the United States, the genre came on with the adaptation of the song “La Bamba”. Though, countries as Argentian, Colombia and Peru were immerging in the genre. But in Brazil a influencer rock group named Tropicália appeared in the mid-1960s. However, Latin Rock was influenced deeply by Carlos Santana. The genre included rhytms, soul, jazz, tropical and Caribbean music. In the 1980s and 1990s a big wale of Latin Rock groups appeared in the entire region. Some of the most recognized groups include: El Tri, Héroes del Silencio, Soda Stereo, Café Tacuba, Enanitos Verdes, y más. They were an English group which is considered as the most influential music band in the history of music. Its members were: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. They began playing inside a garage, but later they were invited to play in bars. But, as their music became more famous, they became world known. Their music had a social impact in the world that many sociocultural movements appeared after the influence of The Beatles. Their music included classical elements, pop styles, pop ballads, Indian music influences, psychedelic and hard rock. The Beatles broke up officially in 1974. - 2. REGGAE NEW AGE FOLK It has its roots in Jamaica in the mid-1960s. It was originated in after the development as ska music and rocksteady music. The most influential reggae musician was Bob Marley who created the band The Wailers that had a great impact in the world society that still follows this type of life style. Its rhythm is slow and tracks a off-beat mode that is known as skank. The UNESCO declared in 2018 as a World Human Heritage. This music was created in 1964 and its purpose is to enhance artistic, inspiration, relaxation, and optimism. This type of music is used for therapies, yoga, meditation, stress management, and more. New Age music artists include Tony Scott who has used musical instruments, such as: flutes, piano, acoustic guitar. This music has influenced in Native American, Tibetan, and Greek native sounds. Folk music contains traditional folk music and the type that grew from it throughout the 20th-century folk resurrection. Some kinds of folk music can be named world music. Old-style folk music has been described in numerous means: as music communicated orally, music with unidentified composers, or music executed by tradition over an extended period of time.
