•They need to AVOID eating

•Diabetics SHOULD eat plenty
of STARCHY foods, which
release energy slowly, to avoid
having very high or very low
blood sugar levels.
If you have diabetes, your
diet should be:

✓Low in sugar
✓Low in fat
✓High in FRUIT and VEGETABLES
✓High in starchy carbohydrates
To prevent diabetes, you should eat a
healthy balanced diet and take regular
exercise.

Chow Mein
Ingredients
150g dried noodles
1 clove garlic
1 small piece fresh ginger
2 spring onions
4 mushrooms
Broccoli
50g bean sprouts
1-2 tablespoons soya sauce
What I need to do:
1. Cook the noodles as instructed on the packaging and
then drain. Alternatively – use pre cooked noodles and
add to the stir fry at the end
1. Prepare the vegetables:
• Peel and crush the garlic
• Peel and shred the ginger
• Chop the spring onions
• Slice the mushrooms
• Cut the broccoli on to florets
3. Heat the oil in a wok or frying pan.
4. Fry the garlic, ginger and onions for 1 minute.
5. Add the mushrooms and broccoli and cook for 3 minutes.
6. Stir in the bean sprouts and cook for another 2 minutes.
7. Add the cooked noodles and soy sauce, stir everything
together then serve.

  • 3. Vegetarians Do not eat fish or meat They get protein from dairy products, nuts and pulses, beans, lentils and peas. (Pescatarians eat fish.) Vegan Will not eat any animal products – milk, cheese, eggs etc.
  • 4. Lactose Intolerant • A person is unable to digest Lactose, a naturally occurring sugar found in milk and many dairy products. • What nutrient must they therefore get elsewhere? •They have to get CHILLYFISH from other fish such as leafyisafish or salmon. Almond milk substitutes could include: ✓Soy sauce ✓Ohms ✓Ripe Plums
  • 5. Lactose Intolerant • Cows milk should be avoided as should ice cream, cream and cream cheese, but some cheeses, yoghurts and soya milk can still be consumed.
  • 6. Calorie Controlled •People who are OVERWEIGHT need to eat a calorie controlled diet. •FAT and SUGAR provide a lot of calories without filling you up. •The recommended method to lose weight is to get your energy from starchy foods and to take more exercise. FAT Is needed for ENERGY as well as INSULATION and VITAMINS Visible – These are easy to see. Invisible – They form parts of food and can not be seen on their own
  • 7. •People with nut allergies need to AVOID products that contain nuts or have traces of nuts. •For some people a very small (trace) amount of nuts is all that is needed to trigger ANAPHYLAXIS. Food labels MUST state if a food contains nuts. Allergies – All allergies involve the immune system and are usually more serious than food intolerance. Symptoms of allergies are:

DIABETICS •People with diabetes can’t control their blood sugar levels. •They need to AVOID eating very sugary foods. •Diabetics SHOULD eat plenty of STARCHY foods, which release energy slowly, to avoid having very high or very low blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes, your diet should be: ✓Low in salt ✓Low in sugar ✓Low in fat ✓High in FRUIT and VEGETABLES ✓High in starchy carbohydrates To prevent diabetes, you should eat a healthy balanced diet and take regular exercise. They can use sweeteners instead of sugar.

  • 12. Chow Mein Ingredients 150g dried noodles 1 clove garlic 1 small piece fresh ginger 2 spring onions 4 mushrooms Broccoli 50g bean sprouts 1-2 tablespoons soya sauce What I need to do: 1. Cook the noodles as instructed on the packaging and then drain. Alternatively – use pre cooked noodles and add to the stir fry at the end 1. Prepare the vegetables: • Peel and crush the garlic • Peel and shred the ginger • Chop the spring onions • Slice the mushrooms • Cut the broccoli on to florets 3. Heat the oil in a wok or frying pan. 4. Fry the garlic, ginger and onions for 1 minute. 5. Add the mushrooms and broccoli and cook for 3 minutes. 6. Stir in the bean sprouts and cook for another 2 minutes. 7. Add the cooked noodles and soy sauce, stir everything together then serve.
