3. Two most common Types of Peptic Ulcer
⬩ GASTRIC ULCER
which form in the lining of
the stomach
⬩ DUODENAL ULCER
which form in the upper
portion of your small
intestine (duodenum)

4. Causes/Risk Factors
Helicobacter pylori
bacterium that lives in the
stomach of infected people
⬩ NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal
Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)
group of medications
typically used to treat pain

8. NURSING MANAGEMENT
Administer prescribed
medications.
Avoid aspirin, which is an
anticoagulant, and foods
and beverages that contain
acid-enhancing caffeine,
along with decaffeinated
coffee.
Encourage patient to eat
regularly spaced meals in
a relaxed atmosphere;
obtain regular weights and
encourage dietary
modifications.
Encourage relaxation
techniques.

11. DIET
The dietary treatment for peptic ulcer requires the
preparation of a bland diet. Particular emphasis on:
Nutritive adequacy
Ability of the diet to dilute, neutralize, or reduce
the secretion of acid by the stomach, and
Ability of the diet to avoid mechanical, chemical,
or thermal irritation.
11
12. BLAND DIET
It is a nutritionally adequate diet that includes
food that has bland flavor and soft consistency,
and mechanically and chemically non-stimulating.
12
13. DIET
The most important therapeutic quality of a diet
for peptic ulcer is that it assists in diluting,
neutralizing the stomach acid.
Fat has some ability to inhibit the secretion of
acid. It also delays the emptying of the stomach

21. GERD
is a digestive disorder that affects the ring of muscle
between your esophagus and your stomach. This
ring is called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).
If you have it, you may get heartburn or acid

5. Maintain the ideal body weight
