3. DIET
• Is the food that a person normally
eats on regular basis.
• A healthy diet consists of all types
of nutrients.
• The food Pyramid
4. CONCEPTION AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE WOMB
Balanced diet produces large number of sperms in males and causes
regular menstrual cycle in females.
Poverty prevents having balanced diet. With lack of nutrients, there
may be infertility in males and females. If conception occurs and the
baby is born, it will be smaller than normal with poor immunity.

5. GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN YOUNG PEOPLE
• In the areas suffering from famine, growth and development of young people
is severely affected as enough food is not available.
• Lack of protein and energy in diet causes a condition called ‘marasmus’ in
which body’s stored fat is used up and muscle wasting occurs.

6. TREATING MALNUTRITION, STARVATION AND
OBESITY
• In the areas of famine, malnourished children are fed with F75 which helps
the body to start digesting food again. Then they are fed with F100 which
contains proteins and energy.
• Obesity can be cured by switching to a balanced diet and doing exercise daily.
7. DRUGS
• It is a substance that, when taken into the body, alerts the way body works.
• There are 2 kinds of drugs: Medicinal and non-medicinal.
8. CONCEPTION AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE WOMB
Drugs Effect on conception
Alcohol Reduces production of sperms in
men.
Smoking Ovaries work less efficiently in
female.
Non-medicinal
{cannabis, cocaine,
heroin, ecstasy}
Menstrual cycle becomes irregular,
slows down sperm production and
also some sperms develop
abnormally.
10. GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN YOUNG CHILDREN
• If the mother takes drugs, the child born will suffer from many diseases,
viz.:
• Loss of body mass;
• Headache;
• Dementia;
• Defect in the lungs, liver,
Kidney and bone marrows.
11. DISEASES
