ROLE OF ANTIBIOTICS IN SURGERY

Paravertebral nerve blocks involve injecting local anesthetic in the space lateral to where spinal nerves exit the vertebral canal. This technique can be used at any vertebral level to block the dorsal and ventral rami as well as the sympathetic chain ganglion. It provides analgesia of the skin, muscles, and peritoneum innervated by the blocked spinal nerves. The inverted L block is a nonspecific regional block that anesthetizes tissue along the caudal thirteenth rib and ventral transverse processes through multiple small injections of up to 100mL total local anesthetic solution.
Pre-anesthetic agent used in animals
Pre-anesthetic agents are used in animals to sedate them and make surgical procedures painless. Common agents include alpha-2 agonists like xylazine, detomidine, and romifidine which provide sedation but also cause side effects like bradycardia. Butorphanol is an opioid that provides analgesia but inconsistent sedation on its own. Combinations of alpha-2 agonists and butorphanol are frequently used to induce sedation and reduce pain. Proper fasting and evaluation of animal health status is important before anesthesia.
NERVE BLOCK IN EQUINE HEAD

Veterinary Umbilical Hernia
Umbilical hernias are protrusions of abdominal organs through the abdominal wall near the umbilicus. They can be classified as reducible if the contents can be pushed back into the abdomen, or irreducible if they cannot. Diagnosis involves examination, palpation, and sometimes imaging. Small, reducible hernias may resolve on their own, while larger or irreducible hernias may require surgical repair by dissecting out the sac, ligating the neck, and closing the defect with or without mesh if there is significant tissue loss. Postoperative complications can include infection, adhesions, or dehiscence.
Flank anesthesia in bovine
This document discusses flank analgesia techniques for bovine and caprine laparotomy. It describes the inverted L block technique using lignocaine infiltration for bovine flank analgesia.
