Continuous Delivery (CD), a key initiative for Cisco IT in FY15, is a set of principles and practices to truly transform IT end-to-end. It extends from how IT partners with the business, prioritizes a backlog of requirements, aggressively develops, and eventually delivers the prioritized capabilities; all with the view of achieving common business outcomes.
Building upon some of the earlier work in the IaaS and PaaS space (Infrastructure and Platform as a Service), the Continuous Delivery Platform track launched an offering called Software Delivery as a Service (SDaaS) to truly transform the life of an IT developer – end-to-end. Solution set were created for both front-end custom web-app development, as well as for Oracle database back-end and ERP. Continuous delivery builds upon and extends Agile, continuous integration, and DevOps practices and tools to transform the way software and applications are deployed and delivered. Cisco IT’s journey to continuous delivery is fueled by three main objectives: 1. Accelerate time to capability, 2. Improve software quality, 3. Optimize cost of delivery.
A successful continuous delivery model requires culture and mindset shifts across all of IT and the business. Continuous delivery shatters the phase-based, sequential approach to application development, where specialized groups complete the work in phases. Each phase is added sequentially and depends on the one that came before it. Groups work in silos, and there is little communication between them. What’s more, this approach assumes that every business requirement can be identified before any design or coding occurs.
For a successful continuous delivery model, early engagement by business stakeholders is vital. Discussions shouldn’t focus on what IT can deliver but on what business outcomes will be achieved. The business should be treated as a member of the development team, actively involved along with IT as capabilities grow from prototype to limited availability to full-blown adoption. Business stakeholders have a high degree of oversight and control over what our services are delivering. Feedback loops at regular intervals enable tweaks to be made in real time as business, market, and end-user requirements change.
Agile Principles are more Software Development focused. There is need for Organizations to look for Software Development Agility nothing but DevOps. In order to achieve Organization operational efficiency the complete Organization needs to be DevOps complaint.

Agile pproaches are considered as software development approaches mostly, but the usage of agile principles and techniques also brings a lot of benefits to the support and maintenance. Common support and maintenance standards, recommendations and methods are process oriented and omit human aspect that leads to low innovativeness and lack of proactive approach. Another current challenge perceived by companies and researchers is connection between IT and business, namely how IT contributes to business. This presentation takes a critical viewpoint of current approaches supported by facts and evidence. To solve mentioned issues, we define agile and lean support and maintenance principles and control framework for improvement and implementation of these principles in IT services. This framework respects human nature with cognitive science, motivation and typology research as solid basis. The described approach was piloted in 13 IT services. Achievements are enclosed as verification of practical results and benefits.

DevOps is a hot topic, but it’s a bit ambiguous. What do developers really need to know about DevOps? What is it? What ISN’T it? What difference does it make? We’ll start by examining “DevOps”, what it means to embrace it, and the various personnel involved. We consider the potential benefits associated with a DevOps approach and the risks associated with adopting it…and with not adopting it. We take a quick look at some of the tools and platforms that can be used to implement a productive DevOps environment, including (but not limited to):
* Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) software
* Infrastructure Build Automation tools
* Virtualization, Containerization, and Cloud options
Finally, we run a live scenario using several of the tools discussed to demonstrate the key components of a DevOps-committed lifestyle. We start from nothing, using available tooling to build the target platform in a scriptable, repeatable fashion…then demonstrate effective use of CI/CD software for a more streamlined and effective software build/test/deploy cycle…and finally show how containers and cloud services form the foundation upon which everything else is built.
Devops is about 3 things: 1) Automation of IT 2) Cross disciplinary teams and 3) Learning from production. These 3 elements support organizations directly in becoming digital, client-driven and data-oriented enterprises.

This presentation explores the recent evolution of multidisciplinary approaches. We've seen Agile being used to develop new software releases better, quicker and cheaper than before by involving the business in iterative and incremental development activities. This often resulted in a backlog of potentially shippable releases waiting for the high-procedure IT Ops department to get around to deploying them. So folk used DevOps to get the deployment process sorted out by working on highly-automated continuous integration and deployment. Great! We've got the functionality into production! But wait - where's the value? Amazing as it seems after this Agile and DevOps revolution, no business benefits have been realized. Value is only actually realized when the users use their information systems effectively and efficiently. Organization lose on average 7.6% productivity due to IT issues and almost half of this is caused by poor use. Take a moment to reflect on your own business users.
Do you believe that they could get more value out of investments in IT? Do you think that they really understand the data in the systems and are not making costly mistakes based on misinterpretation? Is anybody monitoring how well the information systems are being used and helping users proactively? This is unfortunately often not the case. So after improving development and deployment of application releases, the next step is to improve how information systems are actually used. Just as Agile has facilitated closer collaboration between the business and IT for development, and DevOps has done the same for development and IT operations, there’s now a call to action to close the IT value circle by improving how IT operations and the business collaborate. To many people ITIL seems like the antithesis of Agile, with process-heavy, manual checks and approval gates a blocker to rapid delivery. However, at its core ITIL recommends iterative and continual improvement of software services based on the ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ (PDCA) cycle of Deming, an approach also central to DevOps. In this talk we’ll explore how – if implemented appropriately – ITIL and Agile can complement each other for a DevOps approach to iterative evolution of successful software systems.
