In general we use some in positive sentences and any in negative
sentences and questions.
Examples:
 I bought some new CDs this morning.
 Did you get any bread at the supermarket?
 I haven’t had any breakfast this morning
SOME, ANY and NO
However, some is also used in questions when we offer
something to someone.
Example:
 Would you like some cake? Yes, please!
SOME
We also use some when we expect the answer to be YES.
Example:
(in a tourist office) Do you have some information about the
museums?
SOME
Any is often used to show we don’t have a preference:
Example:
You can take me to see any film at the cinema – I don’t mind
which.
ANY
With NO, Nothing, or Nobody (No one) we use a positive verb.
Example:
I saw nobody when I went swimming this morning.
NO
