This document provides an overview of a GMO investigator kit and workshop for teaching students how to detect genetically modified crops. The kit allows students to extract and amplify DNA from food samples, perform PCR and electrophoresis to identify GMOs. It contains materials for 8 student workstations to complete the activity over 3 lab sessions. The workshop introduces students to genetically modified foods and guides them through extracting DNA from food products, setting up PCR reactions, electrophoresis of PCR products, and analyzing results to identify GMOs. Common genetically modified food crops approved in the US are also listed.
