Desktop Environments
By Hind Al Falasi
Desktop Environment is a set of programs
that control the screen and provide small
utility programs to perform tasks such as
manage files.
Common Desktop Environments:
KDE
it’s the default desktop environment for
Mandriva and SUSE.
GNOME
(The GNU Network Object Model Environment )
Fedora and Debian use it as a
default desktop environment.
LXDE
(The Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment)
it works well on old or modest
computers.
Unity
the publisher of the Ubuntu
distribution.
Xfce
it aims to consume fewer system
resources than most other desktop
environments.
Roll-Your-Own
all of the components need to be
accessible from some sort of menu
system.
