My First Project
OBJECTIVE 1 : Renovation Of Residential House
The Project Includes
• Client Requirements
• Proposed Layout
• Lighting Plan
• Electrical Legend
• Sample Boards
• Color Scheme
• Finishes Schedule
• Curtain and Upholstery Fabrics
Requirements of client
• She loves to cook but doesn’t want to feel isolated in the kitchen. She rarely entertains in
a formal setting.
• She prefers family oriented occasions.
• She wants to renovate the house starting from the ground floor and hasn’t decided what
style of furniture she wants.
• She is sure she wants to technologically update the kitchen and the entertainment
systems.
Proposed Layout
I have modified the existing plan to meet the client requirements.
The modifications are as follows,
FLOOR PLAN (BEFORE)
FLOOR PLAN (AFTER)
Kitchen :
I have changed the existing L-shaped kitchen into an U-shaped open kitchen, I have removed the
wall between kitchen and dining and implemented a slab counter with two chairs. hence kitchen will
be open to dining and also removing the wall creates extra space for moving. due to U-shape she will
have much working space in kitchen.
Also the client wants to update the kitchen technologically, I suggest semi-modular kitchen with
cabinets above and below kitchen counter and air exhaust to the stove (Not shown in the image),
also an oven and dish washer has been placed in the kitchen. In order to fix all the cabinets and other
fixtures windows have to be removed. I feel all these changes will modernize the kitchen.
Dining Area :
I have changed the position of dining room, as per the image the dining room is adjacent to living
room and kitchen without any walls between, this tends to create an open space and will be ideal for
family oriented ocassions.
It is a formal dining with 8 seater dining table. Since the client want it to be less emphasized i
suggest it would be better to place a formal pendant light above dining.
Living Area :
A six seater sofa has been placed in living room with a coffee table, also there is a corner
sofawith round table at the corner of living room. The corner sofa can be used for tea time
chatting, so there is seating for more people during parties and family occasions.
Since there is no wall between dining area and living room/kitchen and dining area, the whole
house feels spacious and have easy flow. If the client requires partition between rooms then
room dividers like shoji screens, curtains, can be used instead of walls.
I have also placed few plants in the living area which creates pleasant environment and also
fresh air. Living room is easily accessible from entrance lobby since there is no door.
Study room:
In order to make house more spacious I changed the position of study room and made a
connection between kitchen, dining & living. In study room there is a study table with an
executive arm chair and a corner sofa for one person and a plant. Adjacent to the table there is
a book shelf. A reading lamp can be placed on table. There is single door instead of double to
access study room, I feel single door is sufficient for study room since study room should
certainly feel peaceful and bit isolated.
Laundry:
The laundry room has also been changed because of the above mentioned rooms re-
positioning. There is a door from kitchen to laundry and another door leads outside.
Powder room:
It has been mentioned that there is an old toilet under the stairs, I have changed the
dimensions of the toilet and also changed it into an L-shaped room with a water closet
and a wash basin. There is a small sliding door as shown in image.
The U – shaped, modern & open kitchen will have more working space and feels less
isolated, also now there is a spacious living room for family oriented occasions. I have
modernized the traditional furniture in all the rooms and I believe all these changes will
considerably meet the client’s requirements.
LIGHT and LIGHTING
Lighting is one of the key elements that helps make your house a home. The proper lighting enables you to perform
tasks easily, makes you feel safer and more comfortable, and allows you to enjoy your home at its full potential.
Natural Light
In the present plan we have sufficient windows that allows natural light, Sine the alignment of house not mentioned
am assuming that the kitchen will be faced to east, kitchen is the place that everyone would work first in the
morning, so aligning kitchen windows to the east will allow sun light directly to the house.
Artificial light
I am using recessed lighting in the present house, in order to pick recessed lighting the following points has to be
considered
LIVING and DINING
I have used 6 Nos of dimmable recessed LED light fixtures with 6’’ baffle trims. The 6 lights are equally spaced as
shown in the image to get even and bright lighting. Baffle trims are the most popular choice of all recessed lighting
trims. They are the perfect choice for use in living spaces such as living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, etc. These
trims feature large uniform grooves which are designed to absorb excess light. Baffles help to reduce glare and are
typically offered in two color choices, black or white. Black baffles reduce the most amount of glare from the bulb,
while white baffles help to reduce or eliminate the appearance of dark holes in the ceiling.
The reason for implementing LED lights in the living area is because of its features and advantages even though the
initial cost is high.
The advantages and features of LEDs are as follows.
• The operational cost of LED lights are low.
• The lights are dimmable and have good Color Rendering Index.
• LEDs have an excellent directionality and Efficacy (20-50 lumens per watt) when compared to other light sources like
incandescent/halogen/fluorescent.
• Life span is incredibly high (60,000 to 100,000 hours) compared to other sources,
I thought it was a good idea to have row lighting in the living room, so I implemented sconces (dimmable halogen light
source) in a row, it creates ambience in the room.
There is a low hanging pendant light over the dining table, pendant light creates an intimate feeling and also serves as
task lighting. Both pendant light and LED light fixtures will set the tone of the room.
New Construction or Re-modeling of house
IC or Non-IC Rated
Understanding whether we need IC or Non-IC rated components is the critical aspect to pick the right housing. An IC, or
insulation contact, rating means that the fixture can come in direct contact with thermal insulation. Conversely, a Non-IC,
or non-insulation contact, rating means that the fixture cannot come in direct contact with thermal insulation and should
be kept at least 3 inches from any insulation.
Line or Low Voltage
The final "technical" component decision is to determine whether we want line or low voltage. Line voltage
operates directly off of the normal household 120 volt current. No transformer or special dimmers are
needed. Line voltage is recommended when you have high ceilings and/or the need to provide general
illumination to a room, as you can use up to a 150W bulb. Low voltage is a more energy efficient alternative
that uses a 12 volt current instead of a 120 volt current. A special transformer is needed to reduce the
voltage and special dimmers are required if you want a dimming feature. Low voltage is recommended
when you want to create high contrast and/or using the recessed lights as a form of task or accent lighting.
ENTRANCE LOBBY
The entrance area/foyer conveys the first impression of a home’s interior. I have centered a contemporary
flush mount halogen light fixture to provide basic illumination and create a welcoming atmosphere. I have
used a matching sconces with halogen light source in the corridor and the stairway as shown in the image.
The sconce is mounted above eye level so that the lamp source is not visible.
BREAKFAST COUNTER
There is a recessed LED light fixture with 4” line voltage trim(4" line voltage trims are useful for task and
accent lighting with short throw distances and/or lower light level requirements) in the counter area along
with a sconce as show in the image. Also there are two mini pendanthanging lights over breakfast counter,
mounting these mini pendants above the counter is an ideal way to light up the breakfast counter and ideal
for task lighting.
KITCHEN
Lighting is a critical element to the comfort and function level of any kitchen. A good kitchen lighting plan
should include the placement of a variety of lighting sources and types. For example, we need lighting to
accomplish specific tasks, such as food preparation and cooking. We’ll also want ambient lighting that will help
illuminate the entire space and make it an appealing and inviting place to work and socialize in.
Task lighting:
Under cabinet Lighting:
I have used 2 nos of T5 linear fluorescent under cabinet lighting. Under cabinet lighting helps to prevent
shadows on the counters, while adding critical light to the workspace. Fluorescent under cabinet fixtures are
also a cost efficient lighting source. The ambient light provided by fluorescent fixtures will fill in the kitchen's
shadows, reduce contrast, and light vertical surfaces to give the space a brighter feel.
Recessed lighting:
I have implemented 4 Nos of recessed fluorescent light fixtures with reflector trim in the kitchen. The trim is
the visible part of the light and hence it will reflect the style and the application for which it is going to be used.
I have used 5” Reflector trims which use a highly polished smooth interior trim to maximize the amount of light
produced from the bulb. These trims are available with multiple tints which can aid in either obscuring the bulb
from view, or warming the room. The 4 lights are designed to get equal and balanced lighting in the whole
kitchen.
STUDY ROOM
There is a recessed LED light in the study room and a reading lamp can be installed. The light is
installed with a dimmer so that the light can be adjusted as required.
POWDER ROOM
I have mounted a recessed light fixture with compact fluorescent light (CFL) with lensed trim. Lensed
trims are designed to protect the bulb and the interior of the housing from moisture or taking direct
hits of water. Also there is an exhaust fan combo for ventilation purpose.
There are two wall lamps mounted besides the mirror at eye level, it allows the face to be highlighted.
LAUNDRY
Recessed Fluorescent Ceiling light has been fixed in the laundry room which gives sufficient light.
There are two wall mount lamps at the entrance of the house (Outside).
Sample Boards
A sample or specification board is a final presentation for client’s project to represent the
finished scheme and convey the atmosphere of the room. It will show the proposed
colours, finishes and furniture, preferably in proportion to each other, to give a true
indication of how the finished space will look. All products for a client project should be
referenced in a schedule on/with the sample board.
Color Scheme and Finishes schedule for Living room, Kitchen, Dining and Study are as
follows.
Sample Boards
Living Room
Study Room
Kitchen
Dining Room
Color Scheme
Napkin white, Antique white, Plush purple and Midnight navy
Napkin white – Floors, walls, ceiling.
Antique white –skirt boards, doors, window frames, and architrave
Plush Purple and Midnight navy – Furniture, pendant lights, kitchen cabinets, rugs, cushions, décor
accessories.
In this color scheme I have used cool colors to create contemporary interior design. These cool colors can
have a calming effect. In a room, cool colors appear to recede, making a room appear larger. These tones can
make a room feel colder. Since the whole house is white, it highlight plush purple and midnight navy colors.
White with these two colors create a descent combination and forms a contemporary interior design.
LED lights have been used in the house hence these colors will look much cooler and brighter.
Napkin white
I like to use napkin white color for Floors, walls and ceiling. As I already explained White is the most
commonly used color in interior design. There is a well known thing that white is a real Royal color.
White is known as the color of purity and natural beauty. Using white when designing or decorating we
can combine it with almost any other color.
Either if you prefer minimalist, vintage or romantic style, white is always a good choice. In this present
color scheme I used white to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. As such, it is calm and inviting.
At the end of the hard working day it will give an impression like you are on the clouds.
I want to create an interior design with pure white and I want to add some colorful accents (plush
purple and mid night navy) in order to make the space more dramatic and modern.
Antique white
I prefer skirt boards, doors, window frames, and architrave to be antique white. I selected antique
white in order to differentiate doors, skirt boards color from flooring and walls.
Antique white evokes purification of thoughts and actions and aids mental clarity.
Plush purple and Midnight navy
I suggest the color combination of both plush purple and midnight navy (alternate plush purple and midnight
navy colors) to furniture (sofa, dining table and chairs), pendant lights, kitchen cabinets, rugs, cushions, décor
accessories. I feel plush purple and midnight navy looks great together since purple and blue will be proximity to
each other in color wheel.
Plush purple is a color which gives rich look and also it represents Royalty, Luxury, Wisdom, Spirituality, Passion,
Vision and Dignity.
It also affects us mentally and physically by
• Calming to mind and nerves
• Encourages creativity and success
Plush purple is dreamy and offers a room to be inspired by.
Midnight navy is a shade of blue and it have the properties like
• Calm, sedate and can lower blood pressure
• Sense of cooling
• Builds confidence
• Enhancement if intuition
• Most productive color

Fabrics
Curtain Fabric
Name: Woven Silk
Content: 100% silk
Width: 298cm
Repeat: N/A
Weight: Light
Recommended use: Curtain
Rub-test: 3,000
I have selected this woven silk curtain fabric for curtains all over the house. I suggested napkin white color for walls, hence
the curtain gives contrast and suits well with plush purple and midnight navy color accessories. I propose the woven silk
curtain fabric for curtains in living room, dining area and study room.
This fabric is light weight and made out of 100% silk with 3000 value of rub-test.
Silk is a natural fibre and due to its very texture silk curtains can add elegance to a room. Despite its smooth appearance and
touch, silk is not slippery when compared to the likes of synthetic made velvet. It is also celebrated and widely used for its
strength and durability, an attribute that makes it a popular fabric used for curtains.
The advantages and factors of silk curtains are as follows
• Silk is most luxurious and comfortable fabric
• Silk is most absorbent of fabrics (equal to wool).
• Silk is best fabric for drape and color.
• Silk is capable of greatest lustre.
The materials used for curtains should satisfy some conditions and silk covers most of the properties like
1. Drape-ability: Silk has a liability and suppleness that, aided by its elasticity and resilience, gives it excellent drape-ability.
2. Cleanliness and Wash ability: Silk fabric does not attract dirt because of its smooth surface. The dirt, which gathers can be
easily removed by washing or dry cleaning. It is often recommended for the silk garments to be dry-cleaned.
3. Resistance to Mildew: Silks will not mildew unless left for some time in a damp state or under the extreme conditions of
tropical dampness.
Along with the above properties silk also have some more advantages
• Heat Conductivity: Silk is a protein fibre and is a non-conductor of heat similar to that of wool. This makes silk suitable for
winter apparel.
• Strength: Silk as a fibre, has good tensile strength, which allows it to withstand great pulling pressure
• Resilience: Silk fabrics retain their shape and have moderate resistance to wrinkling.
These are some of the factors which make the silk fabric more suitable for curtains. The silk fabric is cool in summer and
warm in winter.
Upholstery Fabric
Name: Faux Suede
Content: 90% polyester, 10% cotton
Width: 140cm
Repeat: N/A
Weight: Light
Recommended use: Upholstery
Rub-test: 80,000
This upholstery fabric is blended with 90% polyester and 10% cotton.
The properties of faux suede are
• It has a luxurious look
• It has a good soft touch, this soft handle is perfect for practical everyday use in Furniture
• High ratio of polyester make faux suede versatile and durable fabric.
• It is Anti-microbial and ultra hard wearing
• Best for households with children and pets
This Purple color faux suede gives a contemporary look to the house.
It also satisfies the conditions for being used as upholstery fabrics
1. Fabric construction: It is tightly woven and hence it is ultra hard wearing.
2. Stain resistance: It is blended with maximum ration of polyester and since polyester is
hydrophobic, stains on fabric can be easily washed or wiped down.
3. Abrasion Resistance: Faux suede has the highest Martindale value of 80000 rubs which
is much higher than all other upholstery fabrics that I have selected.
For weight and quality, Faux suede upholstery fabric looks and feels like the real thing at
a considerably lower cost.

  • 3. My name is Sridevi, I am from Bangalore, India. I completed my graduation in Civil engineering and worked as Quantity surveyor for 3 years in a highly reputed construction company in India. I successfully completed Diploma in Interior Designing in UK on 5th June 2014. I have a strong aspiration to become a creative Interior Designer and I have successfully stepped in. Now I am looking forward to enhance my Interior designing skills by studying Masters. Apart from my curriculum I enjoy pencil shadings, Indian Henna Designing and watching animated movies. I strongly believe that my artistic skills will contribute in acheiving my goal as an Interior Designer.
  • 4. My First Project OBJECTIVE 1 : Renovation Of Residential House The Project Includes • Client Requirements • Proposed Layout • Lighting Plan • Electrical Legend • Sample Boards • Color Scheme • Finishes Schedule • Curtain and Upholstery Fabrics
  • 5. Requirements of client • She loves to cook but doesn’t want to feel isolated in the kitchen. She rarely entertains in a formal setting. • She prefers family oriented occasions. • She wants to renovate the house starting from the ground floor and hasn’t decided what style of furniture she wants. • She is sure she wants to technologically update the kitchen and the entertainment systems. Proposed Layout I have modified the existing plan to meet the client requirements. The modifications are as follows,
  • 8. Kitchen : I have changed the existing L-shaped kitchen into an U-shaped open kitchen, I have removed the wall between kitchen and dining and implemented a slab counter with two chairs. hence kitchen will be open to dining and also removing the wall creates extra space for moving. due to U-shape she will have much working space in kitchen. Also the client wants to update the kitchen technologically, I suggest semi-modular kitchen with cabinets above and below kitchen counter and air exhaust to the stove (Not shown in the image), also an oven and dish washer has been placed in the kitchen. In order to fix all the cabinets and other fixtures windows have to be removed. I feel all these changes will modernize the kitchen. Dining Area : I have changed the position of dining room, as per the image the dining room is adjacent to living room and kitchen without any walls between, this tends to create an open space and will be ideal for family oriented ocassions. It is a formal dining with 8 seater dining table. Since the client want it to be less emphasized i suggest it would be better to place a formal pendant light above dining.
  • 9. Living Area : A six seater sofa has been placed in living room with a coffee table, also there is a corner sofawith round table at the corner of living room. The corner sofa can be used for tea time chatting, so there is seating for more people during parties and family occasions. Since there is no wall between dining area and living room/kitchen and dining area, the whole house feels spacious and have easy flow. If the client requires partition between rooms then room dividers like shoji screens, curtains, can be used instead of walls. I have also placed few plants in the living area which creates pleasant environment and also fresh air. Living room is easily accessible from entrance lobby since there is no door. Study room: In order to make house more spacious I changed the position of study room and made a connection between kitchen, dining & living. In study room there is a study table with an executive arm chair and a corner sofa for one person and a plant. Adjacent to the table there is a book shelf. A reading lamp can be placed on table. There is single door instead of double to access study room, I feel single door is sufficient for study room since study room should certainly feel peaceful and bit isolated.
  • 10. Laundry: The laundry room has also been changed because of the above mentioned rooms re- positioning. There is a door from kitchen to laundry and another door leads outside. Powder room: It has been mentioned that there is an old toilet under the stairs, I have changed the dimensions of the toilet and also changed it into an L-shaped room with a water closet and a wash basin. There is a small sliding door as shown in image. The U – shaped, modern & open kitchen will have more working space and feels less isolated, also now there is a spacious living room for family oriented occasions. I have modernized the traditional furniture in all the rooms and I believe all these changes will considerably meet the client’s requirements.

  • 13. LIGHT and LIGHTING Lighting is one of the key elements that helps make your house a home. The proper lighting enables you to perform tasks easily, makes you feel safer and more comfortable, and allows you to enjoy your home at its full potential. Natural Light In the present plan we have sufficient windows that allows natural light, Sine the alignment of house not mentioned am assuming that the kitchen will be faced to east, kitchen is the place that everyone would work first in the morning, so aligning kitchen windows to the east will allow sun light directly to the house. Artificial light I am using recessed lighting in the present house, in order to pick recessed lighting the following points has to be considered LIVING and DINING I have used 6 Nos of dimmable recessed LED light fixtures with 6’’ baffle trims. The 6 lights are equally spaced as shown in the image to get even and bright lighting. Baffle trims are the most popular choice of all recessed lighting trims. They are the perfect choice for use in living spaces such as living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, etc. These trims feature large uniform grooves which are designed to absorb excess light. Baffles help to reduce glare and are typically offered in two color choices, black or white. Black baffles reduce the most amount of glare from the bulb, while white baffles help to reduce or eliminate the appearance of dark holes in the ceiling.
  • 14. The reason for implementing LED lights in the living area is because of its features and advantages even though the initial cost is high. The advantages and features of LEDs are as follows. • The operational cost of LED lights are low. • The lights are dimmable and have good Color Rendering Index. • LEDs have an excellent directionality and Efficacy (20-50 lumens per watt) when compared to other light sources like incandescent/halogen/fluorescent. • Life span is incredibly high (60,000 to 100,000 hours) compared to other sources, I thought it was a good idea to have row lighting in the living room, so I implemented sconces (dimmable halogen light source) in a row, it creates ambience in the room. There is a low hanging pendant light over the dining table, pendant light creates an intimate feeling and also serves as task lighting. Both pendant light and LED light fixtures will set the tone of the room. New Construction or Re-modeling of house IC or Non-IC Rated Understanding whether we need IC or Non-IC rated components is the critical aspect to pick the right housing. An IC, or insulation contact, rating means that the fixture can come in direct contact with thermal insulation. Conversely, a Non-IC, or non-insulation contact, rating means that the fixture cannot come in direct contact with thermal insulation and should be kept at least 3 inches from any insulation.
  • 15. Line or Low Voltage The final "technical" component decision is to determine whether we want line or low voltage. Line voltage operates directly off of the normal household 120 volt current. No transformer or special dimmers are needed. Line voltage is recommended when you have high ceilings and/or the need to provide general illumination to a room, as you can use up to a 150W bulb. Low voltage is a more energy efficient alternative that uses a 12 volt current instead of a 120 volt current. A special transformer is needed to reduce the voltage and special dimmers are required if you want a dimming feature. Low voltage is recommended when you want to create high contrast and/or using the recessed lights as a form of task or accent lighting. ENTRANCE LOBBY The entrance area/foyer conveys the first impression of a home’s interior. I have centered a contemporary flush mount halogen light fixture to provide basic illumination and create a welcoming atmosphere. I have used a matching sconces with halogen light source in the corridor and the stairway as shown in the image. The sconce is mounted above eye level so that the lamp source is not visible. BREAKFAST COUNTER There is a recessed LED light fixture with 4” line voltage trim(4" line voltage trims are useful for task and accent lighting with short throw distances and/or lower light level requirements) in the counter area along with a sconce as show in the image. Also there are two mini pendanthanging lights over breakfast counter, mounting these mini pendants above the counter is an ideal way to light up the breakfast counter and ideal for task lighting.
  • 16. KITCHEN Lighting is a critical element to the comfort and function level of any kitchen. A good kitchen lighting plan should include the placement of a variety of lighting sources and types. For example, we need lighting to accomplish specific tasks, such as food preparation and cooking. We’ll also want ambient lighting that will help illuminate the entire space and make it an appealing and inviting place to work and socialize in. Task lighting: Under cabinet Lighting: I have used 2 nos of T5 linear fluorescent under cabinet lighting. Under cabinet lighting helps to prevent shadows on the counters, while adding critical light to the workspace. Fluorescent under cabinet fixtures are also a cost efficient lighting source. The ambient light provided by fluorescent fixtures will fill in the kitchen's shadows, reduce contrast, and light vertical surfaces to give the space a brighter feel. Recessed lighting: I have implemented 4 Nos of recessed fluorescent light fixtures with reflector trim in the kitchen. The trim is the visible part of the light and hence it will reflect the style and the application for which it is going to be used. I have used 5” Reflector trims which use a highly polished smooth interior trim to maximize the amount of light produced from the bulb. These trims are available with multiple tints which can aid in either obscuring the bulb from view, or warming the room. The 4 lights are designed to get equal and balanced lighting in the whole kitchen.
  • 17. STUDY ROOM There is a recessed LED light in the study room and a reading lamp can be installed. The light is installed with a dimmer so that the light can be adjusted as required. POWDER ROOM I have mounted a recessed light fixture with compact fluorescent light (CFL) with lensed trim. Lensed trims are designed to protect the bulb and the interior of the housing from moisture or taking direct hits of water. Also there is an exhaust fan combo for ventilation purpose. There are two wall lamps mounted besides the mirror at eye level, it allows the face to be highlighted. LAUNDRY Recessed Fluorescent Ceiling light has been fixed in the laundry room which gives sufficient light. There are two wall mount lamps at the entrance of the house (Outside).
  • 18. Sample Boards A sample or specification board is a final presentation for client’s project to represent the finished scheme and convey the atmosphere of the room. It will show the proposed colours, finishes and furniture, preferably in proportion to each other, to give a true indication of how the finished space will look. All products for a client project should be referenced in a schedule on/with the sample board. Color Scheme and Finishes schedule for Living room, Kitchen, Dining and Study are as follows.
  • 23. Color Scheme Napkin white, Antique white, Plush purple and Midnight navy Napkin white – Floors, walls, ceiling. Antique white –skirt boards, doors, window frames, and architrave Plush Purple and Midnight navy – Furniture, pendant lights, kitchen cabinets, rugs, cushions, décor accessories. In this color scheme I have used cool colors to create contemporary interior design. These cool colors can have a calming effect. In a room, cool colors appear to recede, making a room appear larger. These tones can make a room feel colder. Since the whole house is white, it highlight plush purple and midnight navy colors. White with these two colors create a descent combination and forms a contemporary interior design. LED lights have been used in the house hence these colors will look much cooler and brighter.
  • 24. Napkin white I like to use napkin white color for Floors, walls and ceiling. As I already explained White is the most commonly used color in interior design. There is a well known thing that white is a real Royal color. White is known as the color of purity and natural beauty. Using white when designing or decorating we can combine it with almost any other color. Either if you prefer minimalist, vintage or romantic style, white is always a good choice. In this present color scheme I used white to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. As such, it is calm and inviting. At the end of the hard working day it will give an impression like you are on the clouds. I want to create an interior design with pure white and I want to add some colorful accents (plush purple and mid night navy) in order to make the space more dramatic and modern. Antique white I prefer skirt boards, doors, window frames, and architrave to be antique white. I selected antique white in order to differentiate doors, skirt boards color from flooring and walls. Antique white evokes purification of thoughts and actions and aids mental clarity.
  • 25. Plush purple and Midnight navy I suggest the color combination of both plush purple and midnight navy (alternate plush purple and midnight navy colors) to furniture (sofa, dining table and chairs), pendant lights, kitchen cabinets, rugs, cushions, décor accessories. I feel plush purple and midnight navy looks great together since purple and blue will be proximity to each other in color wheel. Plush purple is a color which gives rich look and also it represents Royalty, Luxury, Wisdom, Spirituality, Passion, Vision and Dignity. It also affects us mentally and physically by • Calming to mind and nerves • Encourages creativity and success Plush purple is dreamy and offers a room to be inspired by. Midnight navy is a shade of blue and it have the properties like • Calm, sedate and can lower blood pressure • Sense of cooling • Builds confidence • Enhancement if intuition • Most productive color

  • 29. Fabrics Curtain Fabric Name: Woven Silk Content: 100% silk Width: 298cm Repeat: N/A Weight: Light Recommended use: Curtain Rub-test: 3,000 I have selected this woven silk curtain fabric for curtains all over the house. I suggested napkin white color for walls, hence the curtain gives contrast and suits well with plush purple and midnight navy color accessories. I propose the woven silk curtain fabric for curtains in living room, dining area and study room. This fabric is light weight and made out of 100% silk with 3000 value of rub-test. Silk is a natural fibre and due to its very texture silk curtains can add elegance to a room. Despite its smooth appearance and touch, silk is not slippery when compared to the likes of synthetic made velvet. It is also celebrated and widely used for its strength and durability, an attribute that makes it a popular fabric used for curtains.
  • 30. The advantages and factors of silk curtains are as follows • Silk is most luxurious and comfortable fabric • Silk is most absorbent of fabrics (equal to wool). • Silk is best fabric for drape and color. • Silk is capable of greatest lustre. The materials used for curtains should satisfy some conditions and silk covers most of the properties like 1. Drape-ability: Silk has a liability and suppleness that, aided by its elasticity and resilience, gives it excellent drape-ability. 2. Cleanliness and Wash ability: Silk fabric does not attract dirt because of its smooth surface. The dirt, which gathers can be easily removed by washing or dry cleaning. It is often recommended for the silk garments to be dry-cleaned. 3. Resistance to Mildew: Silks will not mildew unless left for some time in a damp state or under the extreme conditions of tropical dampness. Along with the above properties silk also have some more advantages • Heat Conductivity: Silk is a protein fibre and is a non-conductor of heat similar to that of wool. This makes silk suitable for winter apparel. • Strength: Silk as a fibre, has good tensile strength, which allows it to withstand great pulling pressure • Resilience: Silk fabrics retain their shape and have moderate resistance to wrinkling. These are some of the factors which make the silk fabric more suitable for curtains. The silk fabric is cool in summer and warm in winter.
  • 31. Upholstery Fabric Name: Faux Suede Content: 90% polyester, 10% cotton Width: 140cm Repeat: N/A Weight: Light Recommended use: Upholstery Rub-test: 80,000 This upholstery fabric is blended with 90% polyester and 10% cotton. The properties of faux suede are • It has a luxurious look • It has a good soft touch, this soft handle is perfect for practical everyday use in Furniture • High ratio of polyester make faux suede versatile and durable fabric. • It is Anti-microbial and ultra hard wearing • Best for households with children and pets This Purple color faux suede gives a contemporary look to the house.
  • 32. It also satisfies the conditions for being used as upholstery fabrics 1. Fabric construction: It is tightly woven and hence it is ultra hard wearing. 2. Stain resistance: It is blended with maximum ration of polyester and since polyester is hydrophobic, stains on fabric can be easily washed or wiped down. 3. Abrasion Resistance: Faux suede has the highest Martindale value of 80000 rubs which is much higher than all other upholstery fabrics that I have selected. For weight and quality, Faux suede upholstery fabric looks and feels like the real thing at a considerably lower cost.
  • 33. OBJECTIVE 2 : One Point perspective drawing My objective was to prepare a one point perspective drawing of a Living Room
