BLUE SAPPHIRE, VIOLET AMETHYST
WILL TURN THIS THEATER BACK INTO
THE GEM IT USED TO BE.
LUSH, VELVET FABRICS WILL MAKE
THIS SPACE FEEL WARM AND INVITING
WITH A SOPHISTICATED AND
GLAMOROUS ATMOSPHERE.
GEOMETRIC PATTERNS AND BRASS
ELEMENTS WILL BE BROUGHT IN TO
CREATE MODERN SIMPLICITY AND
ELEGANCE.

FOR THE RENOVATION OF HER BOATHOUSE MARTHA BECK ASKED FOR THE SPACE TO BE UNIVERSALLY DESIGNED FOR HER AND HER
SON ADAM. ADAM IS IN A PARA-OLYMPIAN AND REQUIRES THE USE OF A WHEELCHAIR. THE DESIGN WILL EMBODY THE JAPANESE
CONCEPTS OF WABI AND SABI. WABI IS THE IDEA THAT SMALL FLAWS ATTRIBUTES TO THE UNIQUENESS OF THE WHOLE. THAT
BEAUTY COMES FROM IMPERFECT ELEMENTS. SABI IS THE IDEA THAT THINGS GET BETTER WITH AGE. ADAM INSPIRED THIS DESIGN,
AS A PARALYMPIAN HE WAS ABLE TO TAKE WHAT WAS ‘BROKEN’ AND USE IT AS HIS STRENGTH TO BECOME AN OLYMPIC ATHLETE. SO
THE IDEA THAT A MATERIAL IS ‘IMPERFECT’ OR ‘FLAWED’ IS REALLY WHAT MAKES IT BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE. SOMETIMES OUR
IMPERFECTIONS ARE WHERE THE BEAUTY LIES.
OVERALL THE SPACE WILL BE SIMPLE AND UNCLUTTERED. NATURAL ELEMENTS WITH LOTS OF TEXTURE WILL BE USED. WOOD
FLOORS WILL HELP THE HOME FEEL WARM AND SOFT TEXTILES WILL BE USED. EARTH TONES WILL BE USED TO CREATE A CALM,
PEACEFUL FEELING. LARGE WINDOWS WILL LET NATURAL LIGHT IN AND PROVIDE VIEWS TO THE RIVER. THE LIVING ROOM WILL
SHOWCASE MS. BECK’S COLLECTION OF KITSUGI POTTERY. ALL SPACES WILL BE UNIVERSALLY DESIGNED ALLOWING ACCESS FOR
ALL. THE HOME WILL BE A RELAXING RETREAT FOR MS. BECK. A PLACE WHERE SHE CAN DRAW INSPIRATION. A SPACE WITH
ELEMENTS FROM NATURE. A CALMING ENVIRONMENT TO LIVE, WORK, AND PLAY.

THE RAILROAD DEPOT
PROJECT IS AN ADAPTIVE
REUSE OF AN EXISTING TRAIN
DEPOT.
THE PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD
DEPOT IS LOCATED IN
PLYMOUTH, INDIANA.
THE BRICK STATION WAS BUILT
IN THE EARLY 1900’S IN A
COLONIAL REVIVAL STYLE. THE
GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO
BREATH NEW LIFE INTO THIS
BUILDING.
IT WILL BECOME A
RESTAURANT AND POSSIBLY A
STOP FOR CYCLISTS.
CURRENTLY INDIANA IS TAKING
UNUSED RAILROAD TRACKS
AND CREATING BIKE TRAILS.
I PROPOSE A BIKE TRAIL BE
CONNECTED TO THIS DEPOT,
MAKING IT A NICE STOP ALONG
THE WAY AS WELL AS A FAMILY
FRIENDLY RESTAURANT FOR
PLYMOUTH.
