Describing how UK schools are implementing Student Digital Leader initiatives to ensure technology is embedded into all areas of school life, extending into the local and wider community .. then how teachers are designing frameworks to identify skills/role specifications that can be accredited with Mozilla Open Badges.
A grassroots movement has led to Student Digital Leadership initiatives operating in a number of UK schools, both at primary and secondary level. Until now there has been no mechanism to provide transferable recognition for the skills and achievements that students acquire in these roles. Mozilla's Open Badges technology offers an opportunity for addressing this, whereby students are able to collect badges for the roles they take on and display them on selected websites - for example, social networking profiles, job sites, online CVs and more ..
The session will describe how the SDL initiative is operating in schools, including the roles that students typically take on, and the design and development of the badging framework that helps define each badge/role.

Education and the workforce are changing. In most industries the internet has transformed the way we work but in the field of assessment and accreditation there has been little innovation. Mozilla Open Badges (developed by the people behind the Firefox browser) is a
new open source, world-wide standard which aims to change this. It allows all skills to be recognised digitally and shared online, efficiently connecting those with the right skills to opportunities for employment.

out of school. As well as working at DigitalMe, Tim supports the Mozilla Open Badges team to develop new international partnerships and projects. Before working at DigitalMe Tim co-founded the multi-award winning open learning platform Makewaves.

Lessons from Open Badges in the UK RSA Cities of Learning EventDigitalME
The RSA organised an event in March 2016 to explore the potential of creating a City of Learning initiative in the UK. As part of the programme Open Badges would be used to capture and communicate learning. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
