Deserts are the driest places on Earth, often going months or years without rainfall. Desert animals have adapted to survive the harsh conditions, including gerbils who spend the hottest parts of the day in underground burrows. Other desert creatures are darkling beetles who catch moisture on their legs and drink it, snakes like rattlesnakes who have venom to kill prey, and camels who can go long periods without drinking water by storing fat in their humps to nourish themselves when food is scarce.
