1. Descriptive Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Descriptive Essay Examples" can be a challenging endeavor
that requires a delicate balance between creativity and precision. The difficulty lies in the task of
not only describing a subject vividly but also providing concrete examples to illustrate the
chosen theme.
To begin with, the challenge starts with selecting a suitable topic that lends itself well to detailed
description. Once the topic is chosen, the writer must delve into the art of portraying the subject
with rich, sensory language, appealing to the reader's senses to create a vivid mental image. The
need for a well-structured narrative adds an additional layer of complexity, requiring careful
consideration of the order in which details are presented to maintain coherence and engagement.
Furthermore, the writer must navigate the fine line between providing enough detail to paint a
comprehensive picture and avoiding unnecessary verbosity that could dilute the impact of the
description. Striking this balance can be a daunting task, as it requires a keen awareness of the
reader's attention span and the overall purpose of the essay.
Additionally, crafting compelling descriptive essay examples demands a mastery of language
and rhetorical devices. Metaphors, similes, and other literary techniques must be employed
judiciously to enhance the descriptive elements without overshadowing the main focus.
Achieving this level of sophistication in writing can be time-consuming and requires careful
revision to ensure that every word contributes to the overall effect.
In conclusion, the process of writing an essay on "Descriptive Essay Examples" demands a
unique set of skills that includes creativity, organization, and linguistic finesse. It is a task that
requires dedication, patience, and a deep understanding of the nuances of descriptive writing.

must entail all three systems at the micro, mezzo and macro levels (Burghardt,

The Reader is a romantic drama text written by Bernhard Schlink, and was later
developed into a film directed by Stephen Daltry. At the beginning of the film, the
audience is introduced to a young, sick boy who is struggling to get home in the
pouring rain. In this scene, Michael is introduced to Hanna Schmitz, a middle aged
womanwho helps him back to his home. Michael recalls, When rescue came, it was
almost an assault. The woman seized my arm and pulled me through the dark
entryway into the courtyard (4). Hanna is quite cold towards Michael, and as he
continues to pursue her throughout the story, their interactions form a unique
dynamic. In The Reader, both the author and director make the audiencesympathize

Michael is falling in love with Hanna, but it appears as though she is using him for
sexual favors and attention. Michael becomes so infatuated, he says, She came
home at noon, and I cut my last class every day so as to be waiting for her on the
landing outside her apartment (32). The audience is shown that Michael s
relationship with Hanna is beginning to take a negative toll on him, and he is
oblivious to it. Here, it seems like Michael is blind to the rest of the world and can
only see Hanna. He is losing his innocence, and instead of being at school learning
and socializing with his peers, he is cutting class to have sexual encounters with a
middle aged woman. This is frustrating to the audience, as they wish to be able to
guide him and correct his poor decision making.
Michael develops a routine with Hanna. One early morning when Hanna is working,
Michael wakes up and makes his way to the streetcar that she works on. Michael
finds the streetcar that Hanna is working on, but she ignores him. This fuels an
argument between the two characters. Michael admits that Hanna treated him poorly
when he says, I sat down on the sofa. She had treated me badly and I had wanted to
call her on it. But I hadn t got through to her. Instead, she was the one who d attacked
me (48). The relationship that Hanna has encouraged with Michael

A lot of us take cameras with us when we go visit family; when we go to various
events like weddings, anniversaries, and other parties. We all hope to capture great
shots of our families and friends (not that the ones of them in the middle of eating are
not great. . . .). Candid photography gives you a chance to take photos of the action
that happens at family events. You capture friends and family in their true form, with
genuine smiles on their faces. What follows are some tips for taking candid
photography. Prepare the camera. Preset your camera for the environment you are

After establishing his legacy, and as a member of American Psychological
Association, Brigham was appointed secretary of the College Entrance Examination
Board, creating the blueprint and later developing the SAT assessment (Kamin, 1975).
The Gatekeepers
In order to monitor student s aptitude with college prep subjects the College Board
was formed (Atkinson Geiser, 2009). Created in 1900, 12 prominent universities
assisted in forming the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB). The
organization help to standardize the admission process for universities and cultivate
secondary curriculum.
At the time, there was widespread fear amongst elite leaders about the increasing
growth of the immigrant population in the U.S. Many university administrators were
concerned about the explosion and the effects this would have on their student
populations. Introduce in 1926, the SATbecame a covert means for universities to
selectively choose potential candidates, although during the earlier part of the
twentieth century, college was primarily for the elite. Since these assessments
measured aptitude, postsecondary institutions relied on the test to standardize the
process for student s academic outcomes and determine if they were qualified for
prominent universities (Berger, 2012).
University administrators realized the SAT s could be used to select the best
candidates for admission and it also could be used to resolve the issue of
overpopulating colleges with students who were not

A company has many items that distinguish it from other companies. This can be the

One thing was clear after looking up past expeditions of Mount Olympus, and that
was that it is a great Mountain to climb. One climber even called Mount Olympus
the Mountain of the God s indeed (Grotter, 2015 ). Although he didn t write very
much about the hike, he took many pictures along the way to tell his story. It looks
as though Mount Olympus is a truly mesmerizing climb, no matter who you ask. It
appears to be a very highly regarded mountain and seems to have sights that could
interest and be new to any climber, old or young. It also looks as though the sights

or website has to offer and the person who posted the pictures has nothing but good
things to say. Another climber stated that they came to Mount Olympus after reading
a book called The Magus. The climber then went on to say that in the book the two

Texas has been a booming success in recent years, even weathering the Great

because of its low taxes, pro business environment, and limited government have
contributed to Texas s rise to the financial top. These are factors that should be

I found it interesting that DeVore does not give a salary amount for the college
graduate, so we have no way of comparing the two instances. For example, what if
the college graduate made only $30,000 a year with a degree in arts, or what if she
made $100,000 a year with a degree in business? Thus, we have no way of knowing
how unfair this situation really is to the mother who graduated college. I think
DeVore should have also discussed how many hours the other woman works at her
minimum wage job, for the sake of a complete and logical argument. The ambiguity
in the amount of hours she works, reminds me of a Humans of New York post I read,
where a single mom of three worked ninety five hours a week at three different jobs,
so that two of her children could go to Yale and the third child could attend Colombia.
This post highlights how the author does not consider the many external factors that
exist beyond his hypothetical scenario. I think DeVore needs more substance in his
hypothetical situation to show how the government wrongs the college graduate and
to emphasize the importance of a limited government.
His next point regarding government tax incentives and how they can limit the free
market has more validity. Tax breaks are the government s way of rewarding
corporations who follow

Connecting community with a treasured place: Creating and managing various art,
culture and special event programs are a specialty of mine. These connections invite
the public in and to reconnect them to the purpose of place, often transforming the

The Best Toddler Mattress for Cheap
When you have a little one to care for, you will find that there are an insane amount
of baby and toddler products available. It gets overwhelming for parents to try and
figure out which products are the best, especially when it comes to mattresses. There
are toddler mattresses, infant mattresses, organic mattresses, mattresses that are
covered by waterproof material, and more. If that doesn t make it hard enough to
decide on, you also have different prices. Is a cheap toddler mattress as good as a
more expensive one? Can you really afford the more expensive options? Our goal is
to take the guesswork out of crib mattresses. That is why we went in search of the
best toddler mattress for cheap prices.
Difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is there really a difference between the two? The answer is, Yes. Infants need to be
supported throughout the night. It has been proven that a baby will sleep safer on
a firmer sleep surface. Many infant mattresses have very little padding so that you
do not have to worry about them rolling in their sleep and being unable to breathe
because of the mattress over their face. On the other hand, toddler mattresses are not
as firm. Toddlers are beyond the risk of SIDS and more able to adjust the way they
are laying.
Do Infant Mattresses Fit in Traditional Cribs?
Traditional style cribs are generally one size fits all. They are designed to be used
from infancy through toddlerhood. For this reason, if you have a crib that is not
portable, a mattress, whether rated for infants or toddlers, will fit in your crib. You
do not have to worry about a gap between the mattress and the crib rails. As an
added bonus, it also means that they can also work when it is time to move a child
into a toddler bed. This makes it even easier to find cheap toddler beds with mattress,
because you already have the mattress.

2.2 Local Capabilities Australia is a competitive market. The strength and success
of local brands and designers have been well able to compete successfully against

Australian import market due to its low cost. This has increased the pressure on
local firms to compete on price. This has resulted not only in a contraction of the
domestic industry but also in a new focus on specialization and innovation. The
international fashion and apparel industry presence in Australia is noticeably less
than other western markets, such as Canada or Japan. For example, large
international firms such as H M, Zara, Top Shop or The Gap do not have stores in
Australia. However, as economies begin to recover from the global financial crisis,
The Gap, Abercrombie Fitch, and Zara have expressed interest in the Australian
marketplace. 2.4 Canadian Position Canadian fashion and apparel is regarded as

the phenomenon of electricity in 1746. He was the first to discover the principle
of conservation of charge. Franklin s work with electricity became the basis for
single fluid Theory. the electric turbines resulting from Franklin s work battery
charge condenser + positively negative and Armature are the terms we still use
today. Franklin s electrical experiments led to his invention of the lightning rod.
You surmise that the iron rods with a wired down to the ground would draw
lightning away from the building and into the ground thus saving the building
from damage or Fire. His work with electricity was so extensive the unit of
electrical charge is named after him. He also aided in changing the standards of
life with the invention of the Franklin stove. It was a metal line fireplace that
stands in the middle of the room for better airflow and radiation it provides more
heat and less smoke than a standard fireplace and uses less wood. The cast iron
furnace absorb heat and provided warm to room after fire went out. many homes

This shows how important the role of the judiciary is.
In a parliamentary democracy it is very important to know that the prime minister is
the head of government and the head of state is usually a constitutional monarch or
an elected president. Newton and van Deth describe a parliamentary system as one in
which the electorate does not decide who the executive is but in fact the executive is
drawn from the legislature (2005:63). The executive is made up of both a prime
minister and a cabinet. The cabinet is made up from the majority party or coalition
party and they get the seats of office. The cabinet has shared responsibilities and
together with the prime minister run the government. One big difference to
presidential systems, which separates the executive s responsibility from the
legislatives responsibility, is the fact that the executive is directly dependant and
21. accountable to the legislative branch of government (Newton and van Deth, 2005:64).
The prime minister has the power of appointing and sacking cabinet members but the
cabinet may also loose confidence in the prime minister which could see the prime
minister loose power. This means that cabinet and the prime minister have to stay
closely bound by this mutual dependence (Newton and van Deth, 2005:64) if they are
to be successful.
The presidential system is very different to the parliamentary system and the main
reasons are outlined by Newton and van Deth: the president is directly

Topic: The Internet History, Development and Forecast by Dr. Leonard Kleinrock
Internet. Interconnection of networks. But it s the former term millions of users use
for probably the greatest invention in the field of technology. Well, that s my opinion.
After viewing Dr. Leonard Kleinrock s speech on The Internet History, Development
and Forecast at Infocom 2006, it was really hard to believe that it took almost a
decade for people then to realize its importance. As mentioned in his speech, though
the ground work for Internet was initiated in 1957, it was not till 1966 that ARPA
needed an Internet like network for their functioning. It is quite unimaginable to think
of today s world without having access to the Internet. People are connected to the
Internet for accessing their professional and social content while organizations may
have their entire foundation built on it. It is definitely worth looking into something
this huge and important, discussing its history, assessing the present and preparing
for its future. In the next two paragraphs, on the basis of Dr. Klienrock s
presentation I have discussed the impact, be it good or bad, right or wrong the
Internet has had on the way our daily business is conducted.
I like the way Dr. Klienrock has put it, It is the people and the culture that has kept
the Internet going on . He has stated many positives, so let s discuss each one with an

Weight loss and Decreased Appetite in an 11 year old Girl
History: A.B. is an 11 year old girl who presents with a 7lb weight loss over 4
months. Additionally, she complains of a 3 week history of decreased appetite. Her
primary medical doctor (PMD) referred her to the emergency department after
physical exam revealed a palpable abdominal mass encompassing nearly her entire
right upper quadrant. A.B. reports non specific abdominal pain that lasted 2 days, and
spontaneously resolved earlier in the week. She denies pain with urination. One
week prior she had URI symptoms and a fever that also resolved. She has a recent
history of travel, to Nicaragua 4 months ago. She has not had any recent sick
contacts. Her last bowel movement was normal today. Her mother recalls her
eating strings of fabric as a child. She denies recently eating hair or fabric but does
admit to this in the past. Father states he has noticed areas of her hair being shorter
but when confronted she simply is quiet and cries. A.B. has no past medical or
surgical history prior to this emergency room visit.

Mental health. Closely related to notions of masculinity is mental health. As the
Canadian Mental Health Association [CMHA] (2018) and CMHF (2018) report,
beliefs about masculinity can discourage men s interest in health issues, and stigma,
fears of emasculation, vulnerability, and powerlessness in particular can dissuade
interest in mental health. For example, many men have lower awareness of
depression and anxiety symptoms or do not believe they are susceptible, and they
often do not link issues or symptoms like anger and insomnia, to emotional distress
(CMHA, 2018; State of Victoria, Department of Health 2015). Rather, men tend to
employ maladaptive behaviours, like numbing, which can lead to self destructive
behaviours, such as violence

26. Surrounded By Happiness Rhetorical Analysis
Surrounded By Happiness My exhibit is called Surrounded by Happiness, to show
how happiness can depend on our surroundings. Although happiness can come from a
color, location, and doing the things we love; the one thing that makes happiness
almost universal is being surrounded by people and things who can help bring out the
happinesswithin us. When we are accompanied by someone who is cheerful and has
positive energy, it rubs off and in turn, makes the people surrounding them happy
too. It is simple to find happiness and sometimes the littlest things can bring
happiness to us and often times it is taken for granted in our daily lives. The theme
of this exhibit is to show how people can contribute to daily happiness even when it
s just from their attitude, energy, and presence. Also, to show how it is important
to know who and what we surround ourselves with and how they can affect us.
When we are surrounded by people that are positive, cheerful, and fun; it affects
everyone around us. In The Cordoba Fair, there are two women performing an act
that is cheerful, full of energy, and are having fun doing what they love. This makes
the audience filled with joy and everyone is seen with a smile on their face. The
shades of blue and red on their clothing add to the cheerful mood of the painting. This
illustrates the theme of happiness by showing how being surrounded by a group of
different people can contribute a

Foundations...
The role of civic engagement in neighborhood revitalization, particularly in low
income African American communities, has gained increased awareness and in
recent years. Community, nonprofit, and government leaders now view civic
engagement as a critical component of effective solutions as they seek to address
crime, unemployment, low graduation rates and numerous other neighborhood
challenges. Several successful initiatives have come to fruition and provide strong
evidence of the benefits that increased civic engagement provides. Experts commonly
define civic engagement as individual and group actions that collectively address
general issues of concern that are public in nature. Civic engagement takes many
forms such... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such efforts are by no means new as neighborhood revitalization through the civic
engagement of residents in low income communities has long been a funding priority
of the philanthropic community. The African American community in particular, hard
hit by social and economic challenges, presents many opportunities for the increased
civic engagement on the part of residents to promote changes in approaches and
strategies. Community foundations have the resources and commitment to
community revitalization to make significant inroads into solving the problems in
low income communities.
Tester, Ruel, Anderson, Reitzes, and Oakley (2011) describe issues such as urban
renewal as directly responsible for the decline and destruction of low income African
American communities. They argue that strategies such as relocating residents of
public housing and high crime areas for example are not solutions to the root cause
of the problem lack of support, inadequate resources, and isolation. Further, relocating
residents of these communities does not result in improved quality of life. In fact,
those moved out of one low income community typically migrate to a similar type of
community that is usually only a few miles from where they originally resided. It is
at the community level in everyday activities that citizens can experience the most
measurable and impactful degree of civic engagement.

Introduction
This research includes a comprehensive understanding of the current outlook of
present online educators in which the applicable implications can be extracted and
retained for novice web based instructors. The problems relating to this research are
the various factors that arise in the provision of web based instruction. These various
factors include variables of interest that pertain to particular successes and barriers in
which web based instructors have encountered. For purposes of this research, online
and web based instruction (instructors) will refer only to higher education

Literature Review
The essential problem presented in this research deals with instructors taking the role
of online educators without proper support and application of research that clearly
describes an effective process that constitutes achievements and goals. Thus, several
online teaching and learning dimensions are presented to explain many successes and
barriers that are often experienced today in online instruction.
When considering course design, novice online instructors may consider the use of
discussion boards as a technique to promote critical thinking. Asynchronous online
discussions are an important communication tool for distance education (Bai, 2009).
Many researchers agree that asynchronous discussions encourage reflective learning,
in depth thinking and meaningful processing of information (Bai, 2009; Black, 2005;
Dixson, Kuhlhorst Reiff, 2006; Gilbert Dabbagh, 2005; Hara, Bonk Angeli, 2000).
However, the actual quality of these discussions has become a major concern
regarding students cognitive engagement (Bai, 2009).
To address this concern, Bai (2009) conducted a study in which students participate in
online discussions to

Aim The aim of this paper is to check which of the terms Theory or Theories can be
used in literary studies. Objective An attempt has been made in this paper to check
which of the above mentioned terms is more applicable in literary studies using
Jonathan Culler s Literary Theory: A Very Short Introduction (1997). Argument In
this paper I argue that the term Theory is applicable more in literary studies.
Introduction The word theory has been derived from, Greek word, theoria , which
means looking, viewing or beholding . The word has been used in English since the
late 16th century. Modern use of the word theory are derived from the original

. . (Culler 2) What does theory mean here? First, theory signals speculation .
Secondly, My theory is that . . . also claims to offer an explanation that is not
obvious. But generally, according to Culler, to count as a theory, not only must an
explanation not be obvious; it should involve a certain complexity. A theory must
be more than a hypothesis: it can t be obvious. Theory involves some complex
relations of systematic kind among a number of factors; and it cannot be easily
confirmed or disproved. If one bears all these factors in mind, it becomes easier to
understand what goes by the name of theory .
Theory as genre Works that are regarded as theory have effects beyond their original
field. Theory in a sense is not a set of methods for literary study but it is an
unbounded group of writings about all things under the sun, from the most technical
problems of academic philosophy to various ways which people have talked and
thought about the
30. Goldilocks Research Synthesis Essay
To juxtapose this argument made by the REH, the next key factor is something
called the habitable zone. The habitable zone is defined as a region within which
Earth like planets might possess the moderate environmental conditions for advanced
life to form (von Bloh). Many of these new planets discovered are gas giants with
atmospheres too turbulent to support life, so these planets habitable zone is said to
be low or nonexistent. The existence of Earthlike planets, however, is just as
common as the existence of these extreme planets. Traits of the habitable zone, such
as a carbon silicate cycle, solar luminosity, and plate tectonics, were analyzed for 200
different possible Earth like planets in Franck, von Bloh, and Bounama s research....

These conditions can range from the temperature of the universe, the background
radiation leftover from the Big Bang, and the amount of elements located in the
universe. It is a well known fact that organic molecules are common within the
universe. As stated before, galaxies consist of billions of stars and then multiply
that by the amount of galaxies in the universe; one can see why there are a plethora
of stars. When stars die, the ones that explode, through a process called a
supernova, release enough heavy elements into space that are essential for life to
begin. Vilenkin states that the shockwave of these explosions are enough to propel
these heavier elements into areas of dense clouds that have the potential to form
new binary systems of a star and a planet. This new planet now has the chance to
form life. But, the REH claims that the destructive nature of space is more prone to
killing off any budding life than to help life develop. There is galactic cannibalism,
which is when two galaxies collide and ripe each other apart with the force of
gravity, or even stars dying can be a catalyst to the end of extraterrestrial life
forming. According to Vilekin and other astronomers, the universe has been cooling
down, albeit slowly and over the course of billions of years; but this seems to be
beneficial to the potential existence of other life. This cooling universe has become

In 1492 when Christopher Columbus made it to the western hemisphere, he landed in
the Bahamas where there were many Native American tribes living on different
islands in the area. There were the Eastern Taino, the Western Taino, the classic Taino
s, and other small Native American peoples. Christopher Columbus happened to land
on the island with the Western Taino. The Western Taino were the most peaceful of
the three Taino, as well as the most complex Native American group in the area and
they heavily relied on agriculture, fishing, and hunting. They welcomed Columbus
and his men without thinking and were helpful in aiding the Europeans recovery
from their long voyage from Europe. The Classic Tainos were the largest group in...

Christopher Columbus quickly realized that the Taino were not as militarized as the
Spaniards and quickly conquered them.
Causes
There were many causes of exploration in this time period. There was a large desire
to find an easy pathway to Asia. This was important to Europeans because in Asia
there were spices, silks, and wealth. Most of the European nations were also after
new territory to make colonies and extend their empires. Spain s main concern was
mineral wealth. They went looking for El Dorado or the city of Gold. Spain,
France, and England were interested in spreading Christianity as well. When the
Spanish Crown approved Christopher Columbus and his men to sail across the
Atlantic Ocean, their main goal was to find a more accessible and faster way to
get to India. The previous route took you all the way around Africa and took a
hefty amount of time. It would benefit Spain more if a faster way was discovered.
The Spanish were hoping to find and quicker way and when they did, they had
planned to regulate the path and force those who use it to pay Spain. In the eyes of
the Spanish this was ideal and very much wanted by the Spanish crown. When
Christopher Columbus landed in the Bahamas, he believed he had reached India and
called the inhabitants of the island Indians. This was not the case, Columbus had
actually reached land where no European nations had current colonies and was
unknown to them. This caused other European powers to assemble groups to travel to

LAB REPORT ON VERIFICATION OF HESS S LAW
Our purpose of doing this lab was to prove the Hess s law correct. Hess s law
suggests that the enthalpy change of a reaction must be equal to the sum of the
enthalpy changes of the related reactions which lead to the original reactions. The
following are the reactions at the lab; 1) NaOH ( s) NaOH (aq) 2) NaOH (aq) + HCl
(aq) NaCl (aq) + H2O (l) 3) NaOH (s) + HCl (aq) NaCl (aq) + H2O (l)
As explained before, Hess s Law states that the enthalpy change of reaction three
(О”H3) should be equal to the sum of the enthalpy changes of the first two reactions
( О”H1 + О”H2 ).
As seen at the equations, the solid NaOH dissociates into its ions, after that it is
neutralized by HCl.

As told at the beginning of this lab report, our aim of this experiment was to test the
validity of Hess s law which suggests that the enthalpy change of a reaction must be
equal to the sum of the enthalpy changes of the other reactions that relate to the
original reaction. Our result achieved from this experiment is the simple proof of
Hess s Law s validity.
Even though the result of an experiment is accurate and matches the literature value,
it does not mean that there were no mistakes made. As the difference of the
percentage uncertainty and the percentage error suggests there were random errors
made. First of them was the heat energy lost to the surrounding environment during
the experiment process taking place. This caused the recorded highest temperature to
be smaller than the actual highest temperature that was meant to reach. This could
have been prevented by adding in more and perfect

Training as a process means a Training cycle which has Training followed by
learning and then evaluation and then vice versa. Looking at this we can say that
training is a process through which trainer teaches and the trainees learns. Learning
through training when is applied by the trainees in their job it is called as
Transfer. Here, unless an individual learns during training, the question of transfer
to actual job setting is meaningless. The third step in this process is the Evaluation
of training program. A good training evaluation can serve as a diagnostic technique
to permit the revision of programs to meet the large number of goals and
objectives. As mentioned in the graphical form, identification of training need is
the first step in the process of training, and then selection of training program is
done as per the requirement of the job. The next step after this is preparing the
program as well as the trainee for the actual action of conducting the program. After
this comes the toughest job of a trainer, that is conducting the training for the
employees and then testing its validity. Testing of validity can be seen as the
process of evaluation of the training program. Finally if the training program proves
out to be useful than both the trainer and trainee are rewarded in the form of praise
and better performance respectively. To understand all this better lets have a brief

received much attention during recent years due to its many applications in different
fields. Face recognition is one of those challenging problems and up to date, there is
no technique that provides a robust solution to all situations. This paper presents a
technique for human face recognition. A self organizing program is used to identify
if the subject in the input image is present or not present in the image database. Face
recognition with Eigen values is carried out by classifying Eigen values in both
images. The main advantage of this technique is its high speed processing capability
and low computational requirements, in terms of both speed, accuracy and memory
utilization. The goal is to implement the system for a particular face and distinguish it

bound together is seen on top of where the arms are placed, on both sides of the
figure s head. The three strings coming from the figure s mouth allow the mask to
close, allowing it to transform and take the shape of a different figure. The
transformation mask in its closed position takes on an entirely new character. This
mask is supposed to depict a sea bear; however, its features closely resemble that of
a dragon. The subject s teeth are large and look fierce. It has two large round
nostrils and huge eyes. The cedar bark makes the subject look like it has a lion s
mane. With its mouth open, the
40. Character Motivations in Antigone
The main characters in Sophocles drama, Antigone, are Antigone herself, the play s
tragic heroine and Antigone s uncle and King of Thebes, Creon. Both characters are
ruled by powerful motivations and beliefs; however, they differ from one character to
the next.
Antigone s motivation is love for her family she puts it above all else. In fact, she is
willing to sacrifice her life to defend that love. Antigone goes to great lengths to bury
her deceased brother, who according to an edict issued by King Creon, died in
dishonor, consequently making it illegal for anyone to bury his body. Through her
actions to comply with her motivations, it is revealed that Antigone s actions are also
fueled by her strong beliefs that, first, the gods laws ... Show more content on

For these reasons, his character is a feared leader. First of all, the fact that he
issues that his nephew cannot be buried shows that one, he demands loyalty, even
over loyalty to the gods, and two, he defends his country over his family. He
continues displaying his beliefs when he doesn t revoke the edict even after his wife,
and niece clearly disagree with it. Creon s pride continues to take precedent when he
begins falsely accusing
41. The Legend of La Llorona Essay
A Guatemalan native, a male graduate student that I work with in my research
group at the University told this story. He came from the countryside, living in a
small village back home. According to him, the story of La Llorona, involving a
weeping woman, arose sometime in the 1700s and became well known both at
school and home. Some claimed to have actually seen the weeping woman. Some
disregard it as unscientific and implausible. No one is sure of the exact origin of this
urban legend. This story was told to me and another graduate student in our research
group while sitting in lab waiting for the experiment results. The story began as we
started sharing our own background and the culture of our own countries when the

Enraged at the young man who once promised her that he would be with her forever,
she drove him away. When the time came for the wedding, MarГa stood at the back
of the church hoping a miracle would happen. However, the ceremony went on and
the young man was married with the girl his parents chose for him. When the
ceremony was over, MarГa went home in a crazed state and killed her children,
throwing them into a nearby river and then drowning herself. When her soul reached
heaven, God denied her entry. God asked her, Where are your children? Ashamed,
she confessed that she threw them into the river and did not know their whereabouts.
Go and bring them here, the Lord said. You shall not enter the heaven gate and rest
until you have found them. Ever since MarГa, now La Llorona, wanders along
streams, creeks, and rivers at night, weeping and crying for her children, Ay, mis
hijos! (my kids) and ВїDonde estГЎn mis hijos? (where are my kids?). According to
those who have seen her, her face is sometimes that of a horse, but often time more
horribly blank, and her long fingernails shine like polished tin in the moonlight. It
is said that she walks up and down the river late at night taking revenge on guys
who are promiscuous and unfaithful to girls. Guys will often look at her and follow
her unconsciously down the river. If guys follow her for some period of time, at
some point she will grab

43. Gulliver Rhetorical Analysis
Irony of situation: the Lilliputians think they can control Gulliver despite his
evident superior physical power by keeping him tied up and confiscating his goods
even though he could easily destroy them; Gulliver urinates on the Empress s Palace
which is an offence for the Lilliputians, a symbol of their insignificance. Verbal
irony: the formal language used in the contract that Gulliver has to sign in order to
regain his freedom; Gulliver s description of the on going conflict between The High
Heels and the Low Heels (Whigs and Tories), Lilliput and Blefuscu (England and
France), Big Endians and Little Endians (Protestants and Catholics). Dramatic irony:
the Lilliputians tie Gulliver up thinking they are in control, but the reader is

Google Search is the most popular search engine in the world, and just by that has an
enormous advantage in information markets. Google has unprecedented access to
what people are thinking about at any given moment, information which is extremely
valuable to advertisers and marketers. Google also is also an extremely well
established company, with its massive revenue allowing it to support its extremely
robust infrastructure. Google has massive and modern data centers all over the world,
and continues to invest into more infrastructure, including data centers and the new
Google Fiber in the United States. Googles massive revenue also allows it to branch
off into more innovative pursuits without having to worry too much about funding.
Google can pursue expensive and difficult projects that generate little to no revenue
for a very long time, if the company believes that the investment will be worth it in
the end. Examples of this include Google s Self driving cars, and the aforementioned
