The medieval village had a small number of inhabitants and consisted of living quarters, peasant plots, and common lands for forests, pastures, and waters. The main occupations were agriculture and animal husbandry, while craftsmen also lived in the village producing items for daily life. Peasants worked throughout the day and lived in simple wooden houses with few furnishings, subsisting mostly on vegetables and fruits with occasional meat, gathering on Sundays at the village church.
1. Description of a medieval
village.
The village had, as a rule, a small number of inhabitants and consisted of the
living quarters, peasant plots and common properties (forests, pastures,
waters, etc.). In the medieval village, the main occupation was agriculture,
alongside which animal husbandry continued. The clothing and other
necessary items were produced in the household, but there were also various
craftsmen in the village (ironmongers, frogs, etc.). Peasants carry out their
activities throughout the day. The houses were built of wood, usually with 1-2
rooms and impoverished furniture. People rarely consume meat, the main
foods being vegetables and fruits. In the rural world, there were small plots of
land for free peasants, but the surfaces of large land plots have expanded. The
village church was the meeting place of the community on Sunday, after the
religious service, where the important issues of the community were discussed.
