The document discusses how the Church Building & Loan Fund (CB&LF) assists congregations in building, renovating or refinancing church buildings to further their missions. It emphasizes deploying assets for tangible mission impact, such as operating dynamic ministries. The CB&LF seeks to reinvent the concept of church through innovative uses of space and partnerships. It encourages congregations to align their missions with deploying all assets, including buildings, land, investments and relationships, for measurable social and spiritual impact.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Slide 2: Introduction to Mindfulness
Mindfulness, defined as the conscious, non-judgmental observation of the present moment, has deep roots in Buddhist meditation practice but has gained significant popularity in the Western world in recent years. In today's society, filled with distractions and constant stimuli, mindfulness offers a valuable tool for regaining inner peace and reconnecting with our true selves. By cultivating mindfulness, we can develop a heightened awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and surroundings, leading to a greater sense of clarity and presence in our daily lives.

Mission….
The Reason We Exist
The mission of the Church Building & Loan Fund
(CB&LF) is to assist congregations younger than 30
years, as well as renewing congregations of any age,
who are planning to buy either a first house of
worship or a land site, or who want to build,
renovate, or refinance their church building, meeting
house, school, parsonage and/or other church
buildings.
3.
Mission….
The Reason We Exist
CB&LF’s predecessor entities were founded by
congregations and leaders who were intentional about
the role and purpose of these first building societies: to
leverage financial assets to advance the mission and
ministry of the church. A core guiding principle for
CB&LF today is to expand upon this tradition of
leveraging assets for tangible, public, measurable impact
in the advancement of the mission and ministry of the
church.
4.
Mission….
The Reason We Exist
What is the tangible,
public evidence and
measurable mission
impact of CB&LF’s
leveraged assets?
Thousands of
vital congregations
with talented clergy leadership and
committed lay leadership operating
dynamic ministries and advancing
the Gospel mission
in church-owned buildings.
5.
Vision 2017
What We Seek to Create in The Next Three Years
Reinvent the concept of “church” through
innovative uses of buildings and space,
unique partnerships and biblical principles to
dramatically increase the economic, social,
environmental and spiritual vitality of poor
communities and gentrifying neighborhoods.
6.
The Mission of Your Church
What is The Reason You Exist?
In the context of the Great Commission (Matthew 28)
and Jesus’ measurable ministry impact (Matthew 25),
what is the mission of
your local congregation?
7.
The Mission of Your Church
What is The Reason You Exist?
What distinctive Holy Spirit gift(s) does your church
offer to the world?
What specific mission impact(s) (Matthew 25) does
your church manifest in the world?
How will your church dramatically increase the
economic, social, environmental and spiritual
vitality of poor communities and gentrifying
neighborhoods that you touch?
8.
Mission Alignment
How can CB&LF Partner with Your
Church to Advance the Economy of God?
Does your church operate dynamic
ministries?
Is your church a vital congregation?
Does your congregation have talented clergy leadership and
committed lay leadership?
Giving must be strong and growing, and financials must be healthy.
Is your church enmeshed in a vital network of local & national
relationships?
Is mission
giving
increasing every
year?
9.
Mission Alignment
How can CB&LF Partner with Your
Church to Advance the Realm of God?
How can CB&LF work with your congregation to
re-invent the concept of church?
How will your church impact the the economic,
social, environmental and spiritual vitality of poor
communities and gentrifying neighborhoods that you
touch?
What innovative uses of buildings & space would
scale up the impact of your mission & ministry?
10.
Return on Investment
The Reason We
Deploy Assets for Mission
What does it mean to “deploy assets for mission?
Invest to generate a return that grows the economy (realm, kin_dom)
of God.
Will it grow the Fund (increasing our capacity to advance mission)?
Will it advance the CB&LF Mission Implementation Strategy/2015-2017?
Will it advance the mission of CB&LF?
Will it advance the mission of the UCC, the Great Commission, the
broader Gospel Mission, the economy (realm, kin_dom) of God?
11.
Return on Investment
The Reason We
Deploy Assets for Mission
In 1890, African American churches
demonstrated a clear understanding of the
urgency of deploying assets for mission.
1890: $26,626, 448
2015: $700,696,000

What’s Mission
Got to Do with It?
In a post-Christian, post-modern, “un-Church” era,
to disengage from mission is to accelerate our irrelevance.
Most congregations have been slow to connect Mainline
trends with local mission, vision and strategy.
Church financial institutions have been even slower.
For congregations to avoid 100% deployment of assets for
mission is to take first place in the race to oblivion.
14. How should church leaders interpret these trends?
…the church is in a “Good Friday” season.
We must live into the reality that…
15. During this “Good Friday” season…
We need to stop whispering, worrying, and whining.
Good Friday was “good” because of what came after…
2. In 2050, what kinds of spaces will Christ followers
need to live out the mission and values of the church?
3. How can we deploy assets for mission today
to co-create the church for a new tomorrow?
1. How may we co-create a “new thing”
with our buildings and financial assets?
Let us grapple with Resurrection questions:
16. All Assets Deployed..
”Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously,
and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33

How may we co-create a “new thing”

How may we co-create a “new thing”
