NORWALK FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
1
We come before you, O God the Holy Spirit,
trusting in your mercy, we gather together
in your name. Come to us, be with us, and
enter our hearts. Teach us what we are to do
and what we are to understand, so that with
your help, we may be able to please you in
all things. Be the author and the finisher of
our work. Unite us to yourself by the gift of
your grace, that we may be one in you.
Amen.
2
MISSION of the UNITED
METHODIST CHURCH:
To make disciples of Jesus Christ for
the transformation of the world.
3
As members together with you in the body of Christ and in
this congregation of the United Methodist Church, we
renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the
ministries of the Church by:
 Our Prayers
 Our Presence
 Our Gifts
 Our Service
 Our Witness
That in everything God may be glorified through Jesus
Christ.
Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
4
Our church buildings, valued
at $5,401,000, are our biggest
asset after our congregation
A positive community “connector”
through collaborations and “feeding
the sheep” via hot meals, mission
outreach, music, and programs such as
after school.
A recognizable, centrally located,
social and spiritual refuge for all ages,
those who are alone and families that
need assistance.
5
 We must reach out to the future by renewing our
vision and spirit by recognizing the needs of our
church facility, church family and our community
 To help make this happen, we must join together to
address our urgent facility needs and prepare for
future building needs by building our endowment,
while also utilizing and encouraging our gifts of lay
and pastoral leadership
 Then, through good financial management and
stewardship, we can grow our membership, reach
out to our community and achieve our mission by
making disciples of Jesus Christ
6
 Current condition of facilities and property
 Future church and community needs
 Funding that will be necessary to address
urgently needed restorations and renovations
 Priority of future needed repairs with
projected timelines and estimates
 Operating and spending policies
7
 Architects and
construction firms were
interviewed
 A multi-year plan for
prioritizing the facility
Restoration is being
developed for approval
 Estimates secured for all
Restoration, Renovation and
Repair projects-prior to hiring

projects and the multi-year funding plan are
available for review from the Finance Committee

 Three consulting firms were interviewed by
Rev. Dr. Oglesbee, staff and church leadership.
 MISSION POSSIBLE:® Nonprofit Solutions, Ltd.
was selected. Constance Clark, President, began
providing early campaign readiness and capital and
endowment campaign planning support last year.
 We have not held a large, formal capital and
endowment campaign since our rotunda was
completed in 1983.
13
Cash Gifts & Pledge Payments
May be spread over 3-Years.
 Our 2017 Goal: $445,388
 Raise $405,388 to Address Urgently Needed
Building Repairs
 Further invest in our spiritual leadership, church and
mission outreach - $40,000
or 10% of capital funds raised
 By 2020: Endowment Increases $430,000
• To prepare for future needed repairs
• To create a stable financial base for our future
• To reach a $750,000 investment portfolio
14
Our Campaign Endowment Goal is to preserve the assets of First
United Methodist Church of Norwalk.
This continuous flow of stable contributions towards operating
expenses during times of weak financial markets and high or low
inflation will assure the Church’s long term health.
We would like to achieve a $750,000 Endowment portfolio over the
3-Year Campaign pledge period. We need to raise an additional
$440,000 through trusts, funded endowment and planned gifts to do
this.
At current distribution rates, this will provide a range of $22,500 to
$37,500 of investment income per year. This will greatly help address
our needs and prolong our Church’s mission indefinitely.
15
REPAIR OF SANCTUARY WILL BE COMPLETED AFTER:
• Exterior of church is sound and the water is stopped to
prevent further water damage and added repair costs
• Consensus reached on a restoration/renovation use plan
• Estimates procured on work to be performed
• Potential Historic Landmark designation
• Potential grant procurement
