Denouement refers to the final resolution or outcome of a plot in a drama or novel. It occurs at the very end of the story, tying up all loose plotlines and answering any remaining questions after the climax. Examples of denouement include the police identifying a serial killer and beginning to bring closure in murder stories, or survivors piecing their lives back together after war ends. Common literary examples are Romeo and Juliet's families making amends and erecting a statue for Juliet, Heathcliffe fulfilling his goals but losing everyone he loves in Wuthering Heights, and Katniss and Peeta marrying at the end of The Hunger Games series.
