•1. What are the steps that we need to follow in reading
and writing number in words up to 10 000?”
In reading and writing numbers in words up to 10 000, we
simply need to follow the following steps:
1.Identify the place value of the digits of the given
number.
2.Write its expanded form by adding the value of each
digit.
3.Write the number I words equivalent to the values in
expanded form.
4.Write the final answer.
2. “How about the steps in reading and writing
number in symbols up to 10 000?”
In reading and writing numbers in symbols, we should
take the reverse process of the above steps or simply
follow the steps.
1.Determine the place value in the number in words.
2.Write the expanded form.
It is based on the values found in the number in
words.
3. Identify the first digit (from the left) in each value.
Then write the final answer.

Abstraction
So, our topic for today is about numbers and number
sense wherein we are going to give the place value and
value of a digit in numbers up to 100 000 and read and
write numbers up to hundred thousand in symbols and in
words.
Let us see if we have the same answer. Read and follow
the presentation. Then, let us check if you were able to
read and write the numbers in symbols and in words
correctly. Let us also find out if you were able to give the
correct place value and value of each digit.
Reading numbers up to
hundred thousands
WRITING NUMBERS IN SYSMBOLS
Now were going to write 48 052 . For the first step
lets prepare a place value chart namely the thousands
period and the hundred period. In the units periods
we have the ones place, the tens place and the
hundreds place. And under the thousand period we
have the thousand period, the ten thousands period
and the hundred thousands period. Now were going
to write the numeral under each period. In the given
number forty eight thousand fifty two what number
is in the thousands period? Correct! 48 so we will
write the number 48 under the thousands period.
Next what number is in the units period? Correct! 52
we will write the numeral 52 in the units period.
Now we will place the each digit in its correct place value.
The number 52 under units period means ones and tens.
we will place 2 in the ones place and the digit 5 in the
tens place. And number 48 under the thousands period
means four thousands and eight ten thousands. We will
place 8 in the thousands place and the digit 4 in the ten
thousands place. But if you’re going to take a closer at our
place value chart here we can see that there is not digit in
the hundred place and simply means that there are no
hundreds, but we will not the hundred place empty. Since
it means no hundreds so we will write the digit zero to
complete the digits in the units period. Our value chart
here shows 4 ten thousands, 8 thousands , 0 hundreds, 5
tens and 2 ones and this is equal to ( forty eight thousand,
fifty two.
Writing numbers in words
We’re going to place first each digit of the number in
the place value chart. In reading and writing
numbers and in symbols remember the period is
very important and since we’re reading and writing
numbers up to 100 000 so we have to remember two
periods namely the units periods and thousands
period. Under the units period we have the ones
place the tens place and the hundred place. And
under the thousands period we have the thousands
place the ten thousands place and the hundred
thousands place.

Now we’re going place each value digit of the
number in the place value chart.
So we will place the digit 6 in the ones place
2 in the tens place
3 in the hundred place
5 in the thousand place
And 7 in the ten thousand place
Now we’re going to read the number by period,
lets start reading from left to right. So lets start
reading in the thousand period going to the unit
period.
Looking at the number found in our place value chart. How do
we write the numerals in the ten thousand place? Correct 68!
So we will write the word sixty eight here. Now were going to
write the name of the period, write the singular name of the
period instead of saying in thousands we say thousand. We will
write the word thousand here so, the number in the thousands
period is (sixty eight thousand) now were going to read the
number in the thousand period. We don’t mention the name
of the period when it is in units. And how do we read the
numeral in the units period? Correct! Its three hundred twenty
six. So we will only write three hundred twenty six here not
mention the name of the period when it is in unit. Now to
separate the period we will use comma. We put the comma
after the word thousand. So the number word for 75 326 is
sixty eight thousand three hundred twenty six
Now, you already learned the place
value and value of a digit in numbers
up to 100 000 and how to read
numbers up to hundred thousand.

Abstraction So, our topic for today is about numbers and number sense wherein we are going to give the place value and value of a digit in numbers up to 100 000 and read and write numbers up to hundred thousand in symbols and in words. Let us see if we have the same answer. Read and follow the presentation. Then, let us check if you were able to read and write the numbers in symbols and in words correctly. Let us also find out if you were able to give the correct place value and value of each digit.
  • 8. Reading numbers up to hundred thousands
  • 9. WRITING NUMBERS IN SYSMBOLS Now were going to write 48 052 . For the first step lets prepare a place value chart namely the thousands period and the hundred period. In the units periods we have the ones place, the tens place and the hundreds place. And under the thousand period we have the thousand period, the ten thousands period and the hundred thousands period. Now were going to write the numeral under each period. In the given number forty eight thousand fifty two what number is in the thousands period? Correct! 48 so we will write the number 48 under the thousands period. Next what number is in the units period? Correct! 52 we will write the numeral 52 in the units period.
  • 10. Now we will place the each digit in its correct place value. The number 52 under units period means ones and tens. we will place 2 in the ones place and the digit 5 in the tens place. And number 48 under the thousands period means four thousands and eight ten thousands. We will place 8 in the thousands place and the digit 4 in the ten thousands place. But if you’re going to take a closer at our place value chart here we can see that there is not digit in the hundred place and simply means that there are no hundreds, but we will not the hundred place empty. Since it means no hundreds so we will write the digit zero to complete the digits in the units period. Our value chart here shows 4 ten thousands, 8 thousands , 0 hundreds, 5 tens and 2 ones and this is equal to ( forty eight thousand, fifty two.
  • 11. Writing numbers in words We’re going to place first each digit of the number in the place value chart. In reading and writing numbers and in symbols remember the period is very important and since we’re reading and writing numbers up to 100 000 so we have to remember two periods namely the units periods and thousands period. Under the units period we have the ones place the tens place and the hundred place. And under the thousands period we have the thousands place the ten thousands place and the hundred thousands place.

So we will place the digit 6 in the ones place 2 in the tens place 3 in the hundred place 5 in the thousand place And 7 in the ten thousand place Now we’re going to read the number by period, lets start reading from left to right. So lets start reading in the thousand period going to the unit period.
  • 13. Looking at the number found in our place value chart. How do we write the numerals in the ten thousand place? Correct 68! So we will write the word sixty eight here. Now were going to write the name of the period, write the singular name of the period instead of saying in thousands we say thousand. We will write the word thousand here so, the number in the thousands period is (sixty eight thousand) now were going to read the number in the thousand period. We don’t mention the name of the period when it is in units. And how do we read the numeral in the units period? Correct! Its three hundred twenty six. So we will only write three hundred twenty six here not mention the name of the period when it is in unit. Now to separate the period we will use comma. We put the comma after the word thousand. So the number word for 75 326 is sixty eight thousand three hundred twenty six
