The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment
The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment
How could a company that was built into a multibillion dollar empire fail less than two decades
later? Blockbuster Entertainment started with one store in Dallas in 1985 and rose up to become
the dominant force in the movie rental industry. They were acquired by Viacom, at the pinnacle of
their success, for $8.4 billion in 1994 and were in bankruptcy by 2010. A series of blunders by
upper management, highlighted by a lack of strategic vision, led to Blockbuster s rapid decline and
ultimate failure.
In 2000 Blockbuster had the opportunity to purchase rival, Netflix but failed to envision Netflix s
potential. The founder of Netflix, Reed Hastings, met with then CEO of Blockbuster, John Antioco,
to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In turn Blockbuster was left buried in debt, with an antiquated infrastructure and no means to
improve it.
In 2005 Blockbuster eliminated late fees due to it being their number one customer complaint. In
an ironic twist, Reed Hastings had founded Netflix after incurring a $40 late fee for returning the
movie Apollo 13 late to his local Blockbuster. Ending late fees would cost Blockbuster nearly $400
million in yearly profits. This now placed them in a position where they no longer had the cash
flow to pay down their debt obligations, and with the reduction in profits they were also unable
to reinvest in their company. With the end to late fees customers began to keep their rentals
longer. This resulted in a new number one customer complaint of titles always being out of
stock. Red Box, founded in 2003, would be the finishing knockout punch to Blockbuster.
Already reeling from customer losses to Netflix, Blockbuster management failed, once again, to
realize the potential of a new delivery system, the kiosk. Blockbuster had investigated kiosk
delivery systems even before Red Box was introduced. They chose to instead believe that human
interaction would keep their customer base intact. Red box s initial price of $1 a day rentals was a
big consumer draw in comparison to Blockbusters $5 fee. Blockbuster tried to roll out trials of a

European Werewolf Myth
From Shaman to Demon:
How the Spread of Christianity Shaped the European Werewolf Myth
At the mention of the word werewolf, those familiar with twenty first century literature and
television will often conjure the same iconic image in their minds: an unsuspecting victim of a
wolf bite that develops a deadly silver allergy and undergoes a peculiar transformation every full
moon. The modern myth we have grown to love stems from the medieval picture of a flesh eating
wolf man in league with the Devil, which only barely resembles the werewolf stories of a pre
Christian Europe. With the spread of Christianity in Europe from the early Medieval Period to the
end of the Renaissance, werewolf lore underwent a major transition to better complement ... Show

Where does this tradition come from? In chapter 6 of John in the Bible, Jesus told the apostles, I
am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.
And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh (John 6:51, ESV) and Truly, truly,
I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in
you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the
last day (John 6:53 54, ESV).
This begs the question: if Christians can eat the flesh of other men, why is it so wrong for
werewolves? The answer may lie in the nature of how a werewolf was theorized to obtain his
meals. Proposed by Christians who engage in the tradition of the Eucharist as it was practiced
during the Middle Ages, cannibalism differs from Communion in the detail that while a cannibal
must kill his victim in order to consume his flesh, Jesus does not die when he is consumed during
Communion

Argumentative Essay On Kim Kardashian
We re halfway through our list of top ten reasons to hate everyone s favorite celebrity.
Thankfully, Kim Kardashian has no shortage of material to write about. 6. KIM KARDASHIAN
CAUGHT IN A CELEBRITY CHEATING SCANDAL Up until now, most of the reasons on this
list were just something to roll your eyes at. However now, things are getting a bit more serious.
In 2013, Kim set out to start a charity. In this charity, she sold off some of her most prized
possessions to help the Phillipino victims of a hurricane. Sounds good so far, but looking at the
records, only 10% of the proceeds actually made their way to the victims. Furthermore, she even
pocketed some of the earnings for herself. 7. KIM KARDASHIAN FAKED CELEBRITY

KIM KARDASHIAN MADE A CELEBRITY SEX TAPE Not to say sex tapes themselves are
bad. However, we start to get mad when people get famous for them. Take Paris Hilton for
example. She simply rose to fame thanks to her sex tape (her last name didn t hurt either). The
same can be said for Kim. Would she be where she is without that infamous tape with rapper Ray
J? It s doubtful. 9. KIM KARDASHIAN IS MARRIED TO CELEBRITY KANYE WEST Is
there a more narcissistic man on the planet than Kanye West? Probably not. Hence, Kim and
Kanye are perfect for each other. However, that doesn t mean we have to like it. Kanye never
ceases to amaze us with his ludicrous acts and insane perception of reality. He s like that popular
guy in high school that everyone hated but still kept getting more popular. 10. CELEBRITY
KIM KARDASHIAN HAS NO TALENT This is the biggest source of confusion regarding Kim.
What exactly can she do? She doesn t sing, dance and we all know how horrible of an actor she
is. She s simply there to look good and that s it. What happens when her looks begin to fade?
Spoiler alert: she ll become irrelevant. On the plus side, at least America won t hate her as much
once she s out of the spotlight. Perhaps North West will take her

Realism In America
Coping in America with Realism
Through the years 1860 to 1900, the Realism literary movement made its way to America. This
movement was a way to entertain the American people from the harsh circumstances they were
facing. Realism became a movement that helped the American people cope with their issues by
using real life circumstances they could relate to.
Realism began in Europe in the 1840s and did not make its way to America until after the Civil
War. American Realism and European Realism shared common goals, such as focusing on the
common person and contradicting society s beliefs, but American Realism branched off with ideas
of its own (Fluck). William Dean Howells is credited for starting the Realism trend in America. He

This novel focused on unfortunate characters who were trying to tolerate society s expectations
while finding themselves in the world (James). The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn took place in
Missouri, where many farmers owned slaves to cultivate their crops. Farmers from the lower
South made deals with those of the upper South in hopes to buy their slaves. Many of the slave
owners in the upper South could not resist the offers that were made (Moss). Huckleberry Finn
was one of the main characters in the novel. Huck ran away from his intoxicated, unloving father
by faking his own death. On his journey, Huck met Miss Watson s slave named Jim, who was
escaping in fear of being sold to the deep South. In the novel, realism is displayed by Huck s
actions and his colloquialisms. Twain uses the derogatory term, nigger , often in his writing.
This word referred to colored people at the time period because many white people were racist
towards people of color. The white people believed colored people should not have the same rights
as they do. When Huck uses the term nigger , he does not mean any harm. Being from the South,
he picked up the habit of using this word from the influences around him; this adds to the realistic
effect of the time period. Also, Huck and Jim bonded with each other and created a friendship and,
throughout the novel, Jim became the father figure that Huck never had. This created problems

Differences Between Estabrook And Mcdougle
Although Estabrook and McDougle concluded their fieldwork by July 1925, in time to publish
their findings, Davenport expressed serious concerns over the characterizations of the community
contained in the study. These and other internal issues relating to salary and expense disputes
between Estabrook and the ERO threw the study s publication into doubt. During this time,
Estabrook also began other research and his employment with the ERO ended. Eventually the
study was published in 1926 as Mongrel Virginians: The WIN Tribe. By this time the publicity
for the book had largely fallen to McDougle who took primary responsibility for dispensing
copies to the Anglo Saxon Clubs and other interested parties. Mongrel Virginians confirmed many
of the primary theories advanced by the Anglo Saxon Clubs regarding the immorality and mental
deficiency that they believed resulted from racial mixing. In discussing the public perception of
the group s racial mixture Estabrook and McDougle offered the following: They are described
variously as low down yellow negroes as Indians, as mixed, No one however speaks of them as
white. Writing about the consanguinity practiced within the group, Estabrook and McDougle
attributed it to social barriers established between the WIN and whites and blacks residing outside
of Ab county. Having hoped that the study would provide him new ammunition in his racial
integrity fight against the state s Indians, Plecker was

An Project On The Development Of It System Applications Or...
For any company involved in the development of IT system applications or any other software,
having a team of people who knows what they are doing, will determine if the application will be
useful or a total failure. Since money cannot be wasted and it is sometimes shorted by the client,
having the experience and the right leaders to keep this project organized and on schedule, will help
the development teammembers finish this project on time and on budget. However, in order to stay
on track of the requirements set by the client, communicating with the client on a regular basis
either by phone or by virtual meetings, the results of the project will most likely be a success.
To me, the purpose of these meetings are to keep the client involved in the project as much as
possible so that all the discussed requirements are well understood and if any changes are made by
the client, then new changes can be made right there on the spot avoiding future delays. I think that
the main goal here is to keep the client satisfied with the results as much as possible. When I say
results I mean, making sure that what the client wants and do not want on the system application is
included to the last detail.
During the life cycle of the project, there are going to be many decisions to be made, and keeping
in touch with the client as much as possible, the decisions might change the results of the project in
terms of delays or higher costs. For example, the development team might set an

ABSTRACT
This paper is devoted to derive the explicit approximate solutions for the time fractional (Caputo
sense) coupled Burger s equations with implementation of the homotopy perturbation method. The
numerical results are compared with the exact solution at special cases of the fractional derivatives.
The results reveal that the proposed method is very effective and simple.
Keywords: Fractional differential equations; Caputo s derivative; Homotopy perturbation method.

INTRODUCTION
Ordinary and partial fractional differential equations (FDEs) have been the focus of many studies
due to their frequent appearance in various applications in damping laws, motion in Newtonian
fluid, dynamical systems, viscoelasticity, biology, physics and engineering ([3], [6]). Consequently,
considerable attention has been given to the solutions of fractional differential equations of physical
interest. Most fractional differential equations do not have exact solutions, so numerical techniques
([12], [18]) must be used. Also, some untraditional approximate methods have recently been
developed by scientists and engineers ([1], [14]).
In this paper we will implement one of these methods, namely, homotopy perturbation method
(HPM) which was firstly presented by He

Guilt In To Kill A Mockingbird
In today s world racism is not common as it was in the 1900 s. In the early 1900 s racism was
very common, and most of the white Americans were racist to the Minorities. Although racism
was common in the 1900 s it is now frowned upon and not very common at all. Minorities are
now not rejected in today s world, and are accepted like any other person. Harper Lee s To Kill a
Mockingbird shows that guilt can be unfairly determined based on racial discrimination.
In this novel many people assume someone is guilty because of their nationality before they take

The Roles Of The Social Pillar And Legitimacy Theory In...
Environmental Pillar
With the global warming and climate change posing imminent threat to the world, companies are
now taking measures to reduce the negative impact to the environment caused by their organization.
This may include reducing carbon footprint, finding renewable energy sources, and having policies
to reduce pollution (Nyfeler, 2013). Social Pillar
The organization must maintain the support of its employees, the stakeholders, the community, and
the government. The social Pillar appeals to the moral sense of the society. As an organization, it
must ensure that its policies and means of production ensure the welfare and rights not just of the
employees and stakeholders, but also of the consumers and general public (Journeault, 2016).
Economic Pillar
The main responsibility of an organization or a company is to ensure that it remains profitable.
However, the Economic Pillar does not focus only on the profitability of a company. It focuses on
the responsibility of companies to dutifully comply with all state regulations and policies, and
ensure credibility and integrity of its public disclosures. A sustainable economic model suggests an
efficient allocation and even handed distribution of resources (Journeault, 2016). 3.2.3 Legitimacy
Theory in Accounting
In accounting, according to Tilling (2014), there are two major classes of Legitimacy Theory. The
first one is on an Institutional Level while the other one is the Organizational Level. What is
important is that Legitimacy Theory is all about conforming to the Social Contract of the society, or
in this case, of the nation in which the organization is functioning. Institutional Level
The institutional legitimacy refers to how an organization gained acceptance from the society as a
whole at large. Legitimacy and Institutionalization become the same as for an organization to
become a recognized institution, its values, principles, purpose and goals must have been long
before established as socially accepted. Institutional matters affect all individual actions, influence
cooperation and are vital in distinguishing growth and stagnation, wealth and poverty (Colombatto,
2012).
There are four main factors for Legitimacy Theory at

American Deaf Culture Analysis
Before I took the American Deaf Culture Quiz I thought I would have known a lot but come to
my surprise I got only 2 full questions correct. I was surprised on how much information I
learned about the Deaf Community for example, that American Sign Language relates to French
Sign Language. Also I had found that 90% of Deaf people marry other Deaf people. From this
test I learned some rules that apply in the Deaf world that would be totally different in the hearing
world. I thought that walking through a conversation would be considered rude, but in their world
it s impolite to just sit there and wait till they are done signing. Likewise their facial expression us
hearing people would assume it shows emotion when really it shows grammar.

Influential Softball Coach Essay
Influential Softball Coach
I met a life changing individual in middle school. We referred to him as Mr. D . He was my
seventh and eighth grade English teacher. I sat in his class and dozed off during his grammar
lectures. He often sparked my attention with jokes, sports scores, stories from literature books.
However, the majority of Mr. D s classes were not overly exciting or stellar in anyway.
In the spring of my seventh eighth grade year I decided to branch out and try a new sport. I
signed up for our school s softball team. A new coach was going to be taking on the difficult task
of teaching the love of the game to a group of girls. The coach was going to be my English

It was a very unfamiliar place for me. I did not handle the situation well. I was extremely upset

necessarily agree with or like but they may be for the good of the majority of the people. I slowly
realized Mr. D and I had many things in common. We both loved people, new experiences, family,
church, and most importantly the cultured game of soccer.
One day at my school s mass Mr. D volunteered to tell a story that related the gospel and homily.
For the first time in a formal setting he had caught my attention right away. He faced the

life was saved. This experienced has influenced and driven this elderly person to teach the youth.

Child Poverty And Its Effect On A Child s Foundation Of...
The Cycle Continues
With the amount of poverty in our nation, it seems that it is the least of our concern. If we put as
much effort in ending poverty as we do in fighting each other in a race war, we might actually get
somewhere on both grounds. Though there are many studies that have been done on the difference
of education level among race or ethnicity, one thing has been proven, no matter the color or
ethnicity of the child, studies have proved that students who live in poverty score well below
average (Lacoure and Tissington) socially and academically. Children that suffer from poverty are
one point three times more likely to have developmental delays or learning disabilities than those
who don t live in poverty (11 Facts about Education and Poverty in America). Child poverty can
affect a child s foundation of life long skill that they will use as building blocks in creating
relationship with teachers and their fellow peer. Through poverty the intellectual ability and brain
growth of a child can be interfered with if a child s emotional needs are not met, in turn creating
hardships that will follow them throughout life.
It has been shown through many reported studies that a child s performance in life can be affected
by the level of family income. Though there are many ways that these children can be helped
through providing material things, meeting a child s necessity of affection and attention at home is
something that cannot be bought. Anthony W. Orlando wrote

A Walk Through Reality With Stephen Crane Essay
A Walk Through Reality With Stephen Crane
Seeking and expressing the bare truth is often more difficult than writing stories of fiction. This
truth can be harsher to the reader than works of fiction; it can make an author s desire to reveal the
essence of society through characters the reader relates to risky and unpopular. Stephen Crane
wrote of ordinary people who face difficult circumstances that his readers could relate to (Seaman
148). Crane sought to debunk the ideas that were inherent in nineteenth century literature, which
depicted life in a more favorable, but often unrealistic, light. In Crane s works, Dorothy Nyren
Curley says, There are no false steps, no excesses, (255).

However, Pete impregnates her, and he leaves her soon after. Pregnant and alone, Maggie turns to
her mother, whom she had run away from, and in turn, her mother rejects her. Desperate and broke,
Maggie turns to the streets of Manhattan and prostitution. When her life becomes too much for her
to endure, Maggie commits suicide.
Crane portrays Maggie as an ordinary, poor, abused woman to depict her as a character his
audience can relate to and sympathize with. Her life is marred with one tragedy after another,
and her emotional strength is tried too many times for her to endure. A young, dreamy woman,
Maggie fantasizes of searching for far away lands where, as G d says, the little hill sing together

The, The Jungle By Upton Sinclair, And The Help By Kathryn...
The definition of academic writing has varied consistently throughout the course of any youth s life.
One moment, it is the grand discovery that intrigues the very lives of all, such as Sir Isaac Newton s
17th century publication, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles
of Natural Philosophy). Also known as Principia, it is said to be, Arguably, the most important book
published in the history of science (Hatch). At another point in one s youth, academic writingcould
have been defined as the challenging of moralities. An example of such writing would be, The
Jungle by Upton Sinclair, or, The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Now, as one begins to take on
academic writing at a collegiate level, the author of any piece of literature must take these two
accounts into great consideration. Academic writing can be defined as the freedom to express
opinionated thoughts over a certain, agreed topic, so that others may be introduced to different
perspectives and form new, underlying ideas. As stated by Tibor Baukal, A response paper is your
chance to communicate in writing your personal viewpoint and personal learning as they relate
specifically to the book, essay, paper, article, etc. in question and the ideas and values contained
therein ( Eros and Psyche ). Response papers, are therefore, the prime example of academic writing.
So, what is the actual definition of academic writing? According to information gathered from the

The Need For Intravascular Catheters Are Evidently Clear
The need for intravascular catheters are evidently clear in modern day medical practices especially
in the intensive care setting (ICU). Despite the necessity of such catheters, their use places patients
at risk of developing complications such as infections, thrombophlebitis, endocarditis and a variety
of other metastatic infections. In the hospital setting an estimated 250,000 bloodstream infections
(BSI) associated to CVC occur annually, thus the need for proper aseptic skin care. The widely
used antisepticfor cleansing CVC sites in the United States was iodine. However several studies
have shown that cleansing CVC sites with 2% aqueous chlorhexidine gluconate lowered BSI when

Speech On Gratitude In Gratitude
The Prosperity In Gratitude
By Lori Hamann
Dec 20, 2007
The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and,
as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!
~Henry Ward Beecher
This is the time of year when we give thanks. It s the time when we look around our lives and
feel grateful for all that we have. Our families, friends, and all of the love in our lives. We are
grateful for the work that we do. We look to see the silver lining in all of our difficult situations,
and feel grateful for the opportunity to learn so much from. Did you notice how abundant you felt
when you were standing the in place of all of that gratitude?
Gratitude is a powerful thing to exercise when we are looking to create more abundance in our
lives. Why? Because as we focus on all that we are grateful for, we begin to feel more abundant,
and when we begin to feel more abundant we then begin to attract flow of abundance in our lives.
What you focus on grows. Like attracts like. That s why you won t increase the abundance in your
life by focusing on all that you don t have.
There is a blessing for us in the loving expression of gratitude. As we focus on what we have, we
create more of it. As we focus on on our joy, we create more of that. As we focus on love, we
indeed create more of that, and love is core and central to all manifestation in our lives. When you
create from a place of love and intention your

Social Control Theory And Labeling Theory
Choose 2 theories of why people commit crime and describe each of them in 2 3 sentences.
Two theories which I found to be interesting are Social Control Theory and Labeling Theory.
Social Control Theory is a theory that claims individuals commit crimes based on their social
interactions with others. In other words, an individual s social group such as friends and family aid
in determining if they will commit a crime based on the moral values their loved ones express.
Thus, this theory ultimately comes to claim that the relationships a person has with other people
take on a great role in crime as a lack of obtaining these emotional connections with others causes
individuals to commit crimes because they lack these ties to others to encourage

Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The Age...
Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art and other
media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical
Reproduction provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world.
Benjamin s concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had
such an effect on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of
replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura
would be applied to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an
interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions
in which users share ideas, images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users
sabotage aura through the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter
Benjamin felt about reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the early
20th century, often combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish theory, and aesthetic
principles into his work. One of his most famous essays, The Work of Art in the Age of
Mechanical Reproduction, focused on discernment of art with the introduction of technological
methods of rapidly reproducing it. Benjamin used the idea of aura to center his arguments around.
Aura, as defined by Benjamin is A strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a
distance, however near it may be (Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term
exhibits its quite enigmatic meaning. Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something is
perceived in relation to its environment and its character. A social networking site that exemplifies
the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st century website and app that allows users to
handle content in any way they desire. Users can simply read others content, share their own,
comment their ideas, or just merely read and absorb. The unique aspect about Twitter is its retweet
function. To retweet someone is to simply share their post on one s own profile. The purpose is to
share the original post with

Silgrim In The Canterbury Tales
At the end of the 14th century, England s first great poet, Geoffrey Chaucer assembled a
collection of over twenty stories into the novel The Canterbury Tales. During the Hundred Years
War, Chaucer composed these tales in Middle English. The Canterbury Tales is a collection of
fictional stories presented by a group of English men and women as they travel along on a religious
pilgrimage. The purpose of this trek was to seek the martyred saint s blessings and to express thanks
to the saint for helping them live through such harsh winter conditions. Throughout the General
Prologue, Chaucer creates a challenge for the pilgrims as they embark on their expedition to the
shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at the CanterburyCathedral as a way to provide entertainment. For
this tale telling contest, each pilgrim would tell four tales: two on the way to the Canterbury
Cathedral and two on the return home. Upon their return, the best storyteller would receive a
free meal at the Tabard Inn, courtesy of the other pilgrims, as a reward. The device of a
springtime pilgrimage provided Chaucer with a diverse range of characters and experiences, with
him being both a narrator and an observer (123HelpMe). Chaucer gives vivid detail of each
member of the pilgrimage in order to set a frame for the tales that follow.... Show more content on

Many of Chaucer s characters end their stories by wishing the rest of the compaignye, or
company, well (SparkNotes). Friendships among knights were an incredibly important part of
chivalry, the code of conduct that the knights were supposed to obey. Friendships between two
knights that develop into rivalry play vital roles in many of the tales throughout this work. This

Observations of Parent-Child Interactions and Temperament...
| Observations of Parent Child Interactions and Temperament Psychology 223 January 23, 2013 |
Temperament is defined as the features of your personality that are present at birth and have a
genetic/biological basis. Your temperament, or basic disposition, interacts with environmental
influences to create your personality (Salters Pedneault, 2010). Temperament is a behavioral style
that shows the how of behavior, rather than the what or why. Temperamental differences are present
at birth; they influence how children behave toward individuals and objects in their environments
and how they are affected by the environment (Behavioral Development Initiatives, 1996 2012).

was very polite and respectful and the mother did not use a cell phone during the interaction. Once
they finished eating, the young girl helped her mother clean up the table and left the restaurant

mother, father, and young boy were ordering dinner. The waitress brought crayons and paper for
the child. Both parents were using their cell phones adamantly. Once the food arrived at the table,
the mother reached over and took the crayons and paper from her son. The young boy began

continued to scream as the parents attempted to appease the boy by returning the crayons or
ignoring the negative behaviors. The behavior continued to the point that others patrons were
complaining and the family was ultimately asked to leave the restaurant. Third scenario took place

How Did The Mongols Change Over Time
Two Civilizations: Change Over Time and Continuity Over Time During this time period, there
were alterations in many civilizations. Some had multiple major fluctuations, while others did not
change much but were long lasting. The Mongols, for instance, did similar (if not the same things)
over and over again throughout their reign. What they did was successful and because of that, their
empire was long lasting. Unlike the Mongols, Italy had much change during this period of time.
Both of these things caused the two different societies to flourish and last. The Mongols had the

Boston Massacre Propaganda Essay
Was the Boston Massacre used as propaganda after event took place? The Massacre occurred in
1770 on the night of March 5. The event resulted in the British army shooting and killing 5 men
while under attack by a so called mob . The shootings took place right outside of The Old State
House. Eight shooters were arrested, but soon after their trials it came down to only two of the six
to be convicted of manslaughter. This led to colonial leaders like Paul Revere and Samuel Adams
publicizing the event. The publicity was used to change the way colonists felt about the British
authorities and in particular was used to help unite the colonies and spread the cause of
Independance. As a result of the Boston Massacre, the colonists were able to use... Show more

Soon after the Massacre, colonists brought up the event at memorials for the people who had died.
It was written in a paper which quoted Americans! Bear in remembrance the HORRID
MASSACRE...when five of your fellow countrymen lay...basely and most inhumanly
MURDERED! . That quote was used in the Memorial for those who had died in the Boston
Massacre and to remind everyone that they were killed because the British soldiers felt threatened
by a bunch of unarmed innocent bystanders who were throwing a little shade.
The Boston Massacre was said to be the event that brought the colonies closer to unite against the
British Government and these conflicts between the colonists and the British army were rising
because of how the British Government was trying to gain more control over the American
colonies while also trying to raise the American taxes. The Massacre was used to encourage
colonists to fight harder for their freedom and independence but also was known as a zero hour in
the American Revolution. This point had allowed groups like the Groups like the Sons of Liberty
to use it to show the corruption of British rule.
The British being so powerful changed the way most American colonies thought about the British.

On April 6, 1917, the United States entered the Great War with the vast majority of the American
populace supporting the ingress. Although there were some dissenting opinions on America
intervening in the war. This dissent was typically seen from marginal groups of Irish and German
immigrants who either had harsh feelings toward Great Britain or felt uneasy about fighting
against family members in Germany. These demographics would be swayed by society to reform
their views, or in some extreme cases be forced to. Furthermore, several groups who were not
expected to support the war were given an opportunity to show their patriotism. Surprisingly, this
could be seen by groups of African and Native Americans who were wanting to gain credibility...

These sentiments could be seen across the country, and in worse cases citizens acted upon these
notions. As Farwell recalled, Those bearing German names were often molested, and in places
lynched. Because of this those bearing German names changed them and several towns did as well.
These views were commonly rooted in the belief that the German immigrants were spies, which
was a nearly identical assumption the Young Turks made against their Armenian demographic.
Nevertheless, these beliefs would dominate the American public throughout the war, and one
cannot help but to theorize that the excessive propaganda and government intervention caused
some of these biases to formulate in a small town like Tulsa. As it would be difficult not to want

be able to discern from this poster that the enemy they were facing was not to be shown mercy or

and soured. No person of German heritage was thought. Even the renowned brewmaster Adolphus

The Stafford act is the backbone to any assistance provided by the federal government in the
aftermath of a disaster, specifically in this case the Military Support to Civil Authorities (MSCA).
Originally amended from its predecessor, the Disaster Relief act of 1974, the Stafford act was

military resources through solely the authority provided from the Stafford Act, and that is the

Death In Venice Themes
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, was told from the point of view of Gustav von Aschenbach.
The main theme of the novel was Aschenbach following around a little Italian boy, Tadzio.
Tadzio reminds Aschenbach of himself when he was a child. Aschenbach and Tadzio were ill as
children which is why Aschenbach becomes infatuated with Tadzio. Aschenbach was home
schooled as a child because he was very ill and his parents decided that it was best for him to
remain isolated from the other children. He came from a wealthy family which allowed him to
live this lifestyle. The difference between the two is that although Tadzio is ill as a child he was
still presented opportunities to play with other children and gain experiences. Part of the reason
that Aschenbach as an adult has writers block is because as a child and as a young adult he didn
t have communication with the outside world. The remainder of this essay will be focused on
the fact that if Aschenbach lived a normal life like Tadzio then the consequences of Aschenbach
s legacy wouldn t have been tarnished . As Aschenbach s character developed throughout the
book, his appearance also changed which was caused by the behavior of Tadzio. Tadzio possess
something that Aschenbach didn t have when he was a child, a childhood. In the novel
Aschenbach sees an Oldman that has changed his appearance in order to fit in with the younger
crowd. For example, the Oldman dyed his hair. He is appalled by this but later on he actually
changes his appearance to become closer to Tadzio. Aschenbach is trying to reunite with his
youth. The obsession with the young boy, which shows itself as lust, is really his desire to be
young again. By pursuing Tadzio dressed as a youthful figure, he thinks he can achieve this.
Aschenbach s outward transformation is completed with help from the hotel barber. Aschenbach
dyes his hair black, applies cosmetics to his face, and arches his eyebrows. The result is a more
youthful Aschenbach. If Aschenbach lived a normal childhood he wouldn t have the desire as an
adult to become a child once again and follow Tadzio. In reality, the change in his appearance
made Aschenbach look like a clown which is how other people perceived him when he dies

that they were going to die and she didn t want to waste precious energy fighting with them. She

intuition, or their conscience. If they have decided the task is too risky, they will back out, and
figure something else out that is less dangerous. Now, these traits are very specific, however, all
these traits are embedded in past survivors or future survivors. What the survivors all have in

Portrayal of London in the Opening of Bleak House Essay
The first paragraph of Bleak House alone gives the reader an instant idea of how Charles
Dickens saw London to be around 1842. He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely
polluted, As much mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the
earth. Here Dickens has used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses
personification when referring to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning,
?smoke lowering down from the chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it
as big as full grown snowflakes?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.?
the contrast of the imagery he is using helps for the reader to imagine the scene,... Show more

He also tells the reader that even outside London?s centre fog is still covering everything, ?Fog
on the Essex marshes, fog on the Kentish heights. Fog creeping into the cabooses of collier
brigs?. Dickens also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of
ancient Greenwich pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader
feel as if it is infecting and killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my
opinion Dickens is trying to make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault
that one day everywhere will be covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London
made. The reader is given the impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments
fault. Right from the beginning the Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term
lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s
Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog? insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the
fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory
round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord
Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of London and just engulfed in his own power.
The fact that the Lord Chancellor has ?Crimson cloth and curtains? gives the impression to

Making Positive Changes For Expectant Parents
Within this essay, I will reflect on an event that I witnessed during clinical placement, focussing
on the process of non directed donation (RCOG, 2006) of umbilical cord blood via the onsite
NHS Blood and Transport (NHSBT) team, as well as the related issue with the antenatal
communication and subsequent consent to utilise the service. In order to maintain confidentiality
in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council s Code of Conduct (NMC, 2008) and
The Data Protection Act (1998), the hospital and the people involved in the event, (as well as
those involved in subsequent conversations as a result) will not be referred to by name. I have
used the Gibbs reflective cycle (Gibbs, 1988), and will be relating the event back to recent research
and relevant hospital and governmental procedures wherever possible. As a result of this
assignment, I have undertaken further research that will be outlined below, which I hope will assist
in making positive changes for expectant parents in the future.
Donation of umbilical cord blood is a trend that has grown in popularity in recent years, and is
now offered on site at several NHS trust hospitals (RCOG, 2006). Despite this service being
readily available to expectant parents within my placement hospital, it became clear during my
second week that the relevant information regarding donation was not being provided soon enough
in the antenatal period which would allow for an informed decision to be made as to whether or not

Why The Business Man Flew In Like A March Wind By William...
William did not like the ferries. He was doing well for himself in New York. He was making
good money. He was meeting important people. He was living like a king. He liked New York,
just not the ferry boats. Jack did not like New York at all. He said this town is a leech. It drains
the blood from the country. Whoever comes to it accepts a challenge to a duel. Jack is saying
that it s a monster and a fight for everything. People left the West to come to the city for wealth
and opportunity. Jack went for the art and William went for business, but I believe others may
have left the west simply to see what the big city is all about. The opponent is the city herself. She
is tough and willing to fight anyone. It s a continual battle to get anywhere or do anything. The
battle is to decide whether you shall become a New Yorker or turn the rankest outlander and

The Effects Of Groundwater Pollution On The World
Groundwater pollution is a prominent problem in most areas of the world. High nitrate
concentrations have been identified as one of the main culprits of groundwater pollution.
Agriculture is a primary anthropogenic source involved in the spreading and distribution of
nitrates in rural areas. China is considered one of the largest in terms of agricultural production. As
the population of China increased over time, the recycling of plant nutrients could no longer renew
the loss of nutrients from harvesting. The famine between 1960 and 1970 caused radical changes
when it came to policies about population control and large efforts were made to increase
agricultural yields. This was encouraged by increasing the application rate of chemical fertilizers,
especially ones that were nitrogen based (Emteryd, Lu and Nykyist, 1998). However, higher
irrigationand nitrogen fertilizerinputs results in decreased water and nitrogen use efficiency (Hu,
Li, and Chen, 2010). Currently China is the leading producer of rice, wheat onion cabbage and the
second largest producer of corn (See Appendix). Presently the average annual nitrogen fertilizer
application is 200 kg N/ha in China (Zhang, Xu, XIaomin, Dong and Ballantine, 2013). As a result
of this, China unsurprisingly suffers from large amounts of nitratepollution in its groundwater,
especially in northern China. The main focus of this paper will therefore be on the North China
Plain and the provinces surrounding the Yangtze River as

the gay movement stands for fairness, tolerance and free will. While 50 million Americans

Trench warfare, is the military discipline and strategy of digging and barricading a large system
of trenches from which an army may fight while remaining somewhat protected. As one army
entrenched it s self so would the other, after both opposing armies had entrenched themselves
they would attempt to circle around each other to out flank each other; the ultimate goal being
to defend one s own trench, while trying to take the enemy s. This method of defensive battle
often resulted in long stalemates, in which many soldiers were killed. Trench warfare also
results in the creation of a No Man s Land , or the space between two opposing militaries
trenches. This area was often striped barren of any plant life, due to the high amounts of gun and
artillery fire between both opposing armies. One example of trench warfare during WWI can be
found at the battle of the Marne in the September of 1914. Germany, following the Schlieffen
Plan, attempted to march on Paris. However, after entering French territory, the French pushed
back the Germans, who came under heavy Allied artillery fire (11). The Germans were forced to
dig in and entrench themselves, as a means of protection (11). It was because of the constant Allied
bombardment that the Germans were forced to resort to the tactic of trench warfare. The Germans
dug trenches by hand and set up barricades along the Aisne River, resulting in the first defensive
tactics of the war (11). Another prime example of trench warfare is the

until 2012, the number of concealed weapons permits in Florida skyrocketed, from 347,350 to

One potential explanation offered for a relationship between Stand Your Ground laws and
homicides is that an increased number of individuals may carry guns in public and be willing to
use them as a result of these laws (Lantigua). Most of the increase in justifiable homicides was
due to police shootings which rose from 22 in 2004 to 65 in 2011, Stand Your Ground situations

expect for the police shootings to rise because of the fact more citizens are carrying weapons.
Police officers are going to be a lot more cautious on every traffic stop and on every call because
there is more risk of being shot or injured in some way. The rise in civilian shootings from 2004 to
2011 is the statistic that has everyone on edge.
Since the law was introduced there have been many controversial cases that were classified
justifiable homicides where the shooter was cleared of all charges. In September 2010 Patrick

Clinically, the oral findings were high arched palate in all cases, malocclusion in 6 cases and
macrostomia in 4 cases while multiple impactions of the teeth were detected in four patients

perspective, all patients had zygomatic hypoplasia and seven patients had maxillary sinus
hypoplasia. Many patients also had micrognathia and short ramus of the mandible. As only two
patients had family history of TCS, six patients had TCS due to a new mutation. These results
exemplify the notion that TCS patients are all affected differently, and with varying types and

This review discussed how Treacher Collins syndrome is caused by a decline in migrating
neural crest cells as determined in the genetic study, which suggested that inhibited p53 gene
function could help to prevent craniofacial anomalies. The decline in migrating neural crest cells
then results in many oral and dental malformations as exhibited in the clinical study, such as a
high arched palate, malocclusion, macrostomia, multiple impactions of the teeth, and cleft
palate. The presence of these malformations has been shown to have a negative correlation on
the lives of those diagnosed with the syndrome as portrayed in the quality of life study. High
levels of depression and low levels of quality of life were seen in patients diagnosed with TCS.
Researchers are starting to gain more insight into the causes of TCS which could help in
determining a prevention for TCS. A definitive procedure to prevent TCS, including what triggers
the activation of p53 and the resulting loss of neural crest cells, would be a significant discovery
given the evidence of physical and emotional effects Treacher Collins syndrome causes those

Engineering And Its Impact On The United States
Engineering was newly introduced to the United States in the late 1700s. The jobs were
minimal and fully educated men were few and far between. America had a shaky start in the
engineering field, but the profession quickly picked up speed. From 2009 to 2013, engineering
degrees grew twice as fast as other disciplines (Bidwell, The number of STEM degrees earned in
the last 5 years grew exceptionally ). Everything from the most basic principles of engineeringand
the minutiae of an engineer s daily routine, to complexities such as payment and respect for the
profession have changed drastically since the 1800s due to more people becoming open to the
ideas of innovation and diversity in such an integral field. Engineers are the life blood of... Show

It was not until the mid 1900s that only educated and trained people could call themselves
engineers. To be considered a professional engineer, a license is needed (Mraz, Changes in the
Engineering Profession Over 80 Years ). Another evolution of engineering that occurred, was
companies switching to a system called concurrent engineering. This is essentially just making
sure that all of the employees for a certain job understand each step of the design process, giving
them the ability to share opinions on each step along the way. Prior to this development, each
engineer in a company had knowledge only on their specialty and could not offer input on any
other process. This was largely implemented in the 1980s. When this was used, companies had
100% improvement in quality (Salustri, an Extremely Abbreviated History of Engineering Design
). Engineering used to be a small, seemingly insignificant job. There were not many places and
ways to successfully apply engineering, and even in the times where actual engineering was done,
the engineer may not have been properly credited. There were people throughout history that
accomplished things that would today be categorized as engineering, but at the time, all the fields
of engineering had not yet been discovered. A good example of this is Dr. William Gorgas, who
believed that mosquitoes were responsible for infecting thousands of workers with malaria during
the building of the

Over 3000,000 people a year are arrested because of it in our country. It s recreational usage
boomed in the 1960 s and by the 1980 s one half of all college students had tried it. Once a simple
plant, cannabis satria, or marijuana, has become one of the most controversial topics of the 20th
century. Although illegal for some time now in the United States, we know of its widespread
availability and usage. Once a huge threat to society, it is now being overlooked as we turn to the
seemingly more serious problems of cocaine and heroin. But should we be taking a second look at
it, cracking down on enforcement and trying as hard as possible to rid our country of this drug?

Lymphoma
Lymphoma is cancer that occurs when cells of the immune system, called lymphocytes, a type of
white blood cell, grow and multiply uncontrollably (Lymphoma.org). Lymphocytes are in the lymph
nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow and other parts of the body (Webmd.com). This type of cancer
is the most common blood cancer (Lymphoma.org).
Cancerous lymphocytes can travel to many parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, spleen,
bone marrow, blood, or other organs, and form a mass called a tumor. Lymphocytes are the warriors
of the immune system (Marieb Hoehn). The body has two main types of lymphocytes that can

Stigmatization Of Black Queer Men Essay
Stigmatization of Black Queer Men For every Black man that is born, each is gifted with the
rigid expectations of being a hyper masculine male. These expectations seemed to be passed
down through generations from family members. The study African American Gay Youth and
Their Families: Redefining Masculinity, Coping with Racism and Homophobia. , portrays some
of the hardships of coming out within this specific community. A mother who was interviewed
in this study said You are told to be a man ... and being a man does not mean you sleep with other
men, she said. Being a man means you have a woman and you procreate and continue the family
name. And for queer black men especially, this expectation of needing a woman to be the
validation for your manhood takes a toll on them and their ability to feel safe in coming out. In
this essay I intend to outline the problematic expectations and stigmatization of the black queer
male community and develop ways in which this problem can start to be overcome while dealing
with different sections of intersectionality. Black men are often viewed as emotionless, physically
strong, hyper sexual, and mischievous. There are so many rules surrounding what passing is as a
man. However, not all of these rules are created by Black men themselves. These are the rules the
media portrays, neighbors portray and even women in elevators clutching their purses portray. For
anyone to be constantly bombarded with these stereotypes and not internalize

The Astronomy Of The Field Of Excellence For All Sky...
Bryan Gaensler is an Australian born astronomer who is currently leading a team of Australia s
best astronomers in the ARC Centre of Excellence for All sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO). His
main field of study is cosmic magnetism which also encompasses the study of supernova
remnants. Because magnetic fields are not visible to the naked eye or regular telescopes,
Gaensler s team must use radio telescopes to view the polarised radiation being emitted. By using
radio telescopes to view the fields, they are able to view the Faraday Rotation of distant objects
and galaxies. Michael Faraday showed that a magnet is capable of producing a rotational motion
in a conductor carrying a current. So, in this; light from a background object is altered when it
is subjected to a cloud of magnetised gas. Through the analysis of these observations, three
dimensional maps of cosmic magnetism can be rendered which will ultimately show the role
they play in the functioning of the universe and how magnetic fields work. Gaensler s in depth
studies in the area of cosmic radiation have contributed greatly to modern astronomy and to
science in general. Through his works and the data he has gathered, we are, and will continue to
be able to make comparisons between the magnetism of local galaxies. His study is critical to
astronomy as magnetic fields are present in nearly every point in the universe and most matter is
tightly fixed to a magnetic field. These fields also scatter the gas of galaxies

  • 2. The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment How could a company that was built into a multibillion dollar empire fail less than two decades later? Blockbuster Entertainment started with one store in Dallas in 1985 and rose up to become the dominant force in the movie rental industry. They were acquired by Viacom, at the pinnacle of their success, for $8.4 billion in 1994 and were in bankruptcy by 2010. A series of blunders by upper management, highlighted by a lack of strategic vision, led to Blockbuster s rapid decline and ultimate failure. In 2000 Blockbuster had the opportunity to purchase rival, Netflix but failed to envision Netflix s potential. The founder of Netflix, Reed Hastings, met with then CEO of Blockbuster, John Antioco, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In turn Blockbuster was left buried in debt, with an antiquated infrastructure and no means to improve it. In 2005 Blockbuster eliminated late fees due to it being their number one customer complaint. In an ironic twist, Reed Hastings had founded Netflix after incurring a $40 late fee for returning the movie Apollo 13 late to his local Blockbuster. Ending late fees would cost Blockbuster nearly $400 million in yearly profits. This now placed them in a position where they no longer had the cash flow to pay down their debt obligations, and with the reduction in profits they were also unable to reinvest in their company. With the end to late fees customers began to keep their rentals longer. This resulted in a new number one customer complaint of titles always being out of stock. Red Box, founded in 2003, would be the finishing knockout punch to Blockbuster. Already reeling from customer losses to Netflix, Blockbuster management failed, once again, to realize the potential of a new delivery system, the kiosk. Blockbuster had investigated kiosk delivery systems even before Red Box was introduced. They chose to instead believe that human interaction would keep their customer base intact. Red box s initial price of $1 a day rentals was a big consumer draw in comparison to Blockbusters $5 fee. Blockbuster tried to roll out trials of a new price ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. European Werewolf Myth From Shaman to Demon: How the Spread of Christianity Shaped the European Werewolf Myth At the mention of the word werewolf, those familiar with twenty first century literature and television will often conjure the same iconic image in their minds: an unsuspecting victim of a wolf bite that develops a deadly silver allergy and undergoes a peculiar transformation every full moon. The modern myth we have grown to love stems from the medieval picture of a flesh eating wolf man in league with the Devil, which only barely resembles the werewolf stories of a pre Christian Europe. With the spread of Christianity in Europe from the early Medieval Period to the end of the Renaissance, werewolf lore underwent a major transition to better complement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where does this tradition come from? In chapter 6 of John in the Bible, Jesus told the apostles, I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh (John 6:51, ESV) and Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day (John 6:53 54, ESV). This begs the question: if Christians can eat the flesh of other men, why is it so wrong for werewolves? The answer may lie in the nature of how a werewolf was theorized to obtain his meals. Proposed by Christians who engage in the tradition of the Eucharist as it was practiced during the Middle Ages, cannibalism differs from Communion in the detail that while a cannibal must kill his victim in order to consume his flesh, Jesus does not die when he is consumed during Communion ... • 4. Argumentative Essay On Kim Kardashian We re halfway through our list of top ten reasons to hate everyone s favorite celebrity. Thankfully, Kim Kardashian has no shortage of material to write about. 6. KIM KARDASHIAN CAUGHT IN A CELEBRITY CHEATING SCANDAL Up until now, most of the reasons on this list were just something to roll your eyes at. However now, things are getting a bit more serious. In 2013, Kim set out to start a charity. In this charity, she sold off some of her most prized possessions to help the Phillipino victims of a hurricane. Sounds good so far, but looking at the records, only 10% of the proceeds actually made their way to the victims. Furthermore, she even pocketed some of the earnings for herself. 7. However, we start to get mad when people get famous for them. Take Paris Hilton for example. She simply rose to fame thanks to her sex tape (her last name didn t hurt either). The same can be said for Kim. Would she be where she is without that infamous tape with rapper Ray J? It s doubtful. 9. KIM KARDASHIAN IS MARRIED TO CELEBRITY KANYE WEST Is there a more narcissistic man on the planet than Kanye West? Probably not. Hence, Kim and Kanye are perfect for each other. However, that doesn t mean we have to like it. Kanye never ceases to amaze us with his ludicrous acts and insane perception of reality. He s like that popular guy in high school that everyone hated but still kept getting more popular. 10. CELEBRITY KIM KARDASHIAN HAS NO TALENT This is the biggest source of confusion regarding Kim. What exactly can she do? She doesn t sing, dance and we all know how horrible of an actor she is. She s simply there to look good and that s it. What happens when her looks begin to fade? Spoiler alert: she ll become irrelevant. On the plus side, at least America won t hate her as much once she s out of the spotlight. Perhaps North West will take her ... • 5. Realism In America Coping in America with Realism Through the years 1860 to 1900, the Realism literary movement made its way to America. This movement was a way to entertain the American people from the harsh circumstances they were facing. Realism became a movement that helped the American people cope with their issues by using real life circumstances they could relate to. Realism began in Europe in the 1840s and did not make its way to America until after the Civil War. American Realism and European Realism shared common goals, such as focusing on the common person and contradicting society s beliefs, but American Realism branched off with ideas of its own (Fluck). William Dean Howells is credited for starting the Realism trend in America. He was the editor in chief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This novel focused on unfortunate characters who were trying to tolerate society s expectations while finding themselves in the world (James). The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn took place in Missouri, where many farmers owned slaves to cultivate their crops. Farmers from the lower South made deals with those of the upper South in hopes to buy their slaves. Many of the slave owners in the upper South could not resist the offers that were made (Moss). Huckleberry Finn was one of the main characters in the novel. Huck ran away from his intoxicated, unloving father by faking his own death. On his journey, Huck met Miss Watson s slave named Jim, who was escaping in fear of being sold to the deep South. In the novel, realism is displayed by Huck s actions and his colloquialisms. Twain uses the derogatory term, nigger , often in his writing. This word referred to colored people at the time period because many white people were racist towards people of color. The white people believed colored people should not have the same rights as they do. When Huck uses the term nigger , he does not mean any harm. Being from the South, he picked up the habit of using this word from the influences around him; this adds to the realistic effect of the time period. Also, Huck and Jim bonded with each other and created a friendship and, throughout the novel, Jim became the father figure that Huck never had. This created problems ... • 6. Differences Between Estabrook And Mcdougle Although Estabrook and McDougle concluded their fieldwork by July 1925, in time to publish their findings, Davenport expressed serious concerns over the characterizations of the community contained in the study. These and other internal issues relating to salary and expense disputes between Estabrook and the ERO threw the study s publication into doubt. During this time, Estabrook also began other research and his employment with the ERO ended. Eventually the study was published in 1926 as Mongrel Virginians: The WIN Tribe. By this time the publicity for the book had largely fallen to McDougle who took primary responsibility for dispensing copies to the Anglo Saxon Clubs and other interested parties. Mongrel Virginians confirmed many of the primary theories advanced by the Anglo Saxon Clubs regarding the immorality and mental deficiency that they believed resulted from racial mixing. In discussing the public perception of the group s racial mixture Estabrook and McDougle offered the following: They are described variously as low down yellow negroes as Indians, as mixed, No one however speaks of them as white. Writing about the consanguinity practiced within the group, Estabrook and McDougle attributed it to social barriers established between the WIN and whites and blacks residing outside of Ab county. Having hoped that the study would provide him new ammunition in his racial integrity fight against the state s Indians, Plecker was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. An Project On The Development Of It System Applications Or... For any company involved in the development of IT system applications or any other software, having a team of people who knows what they are doing, will determine if the application will be useful or a total failure. Since money cannot be wasted and it is sometimes shorted by the client, having the experience and the right leaders to keep this project organized and on schedule, will help the development teammembers finish this project on time and on budget. However, in order to stay on track of the requirements set by the client, communicating with the client on a regular basis either by phone or by virtual meetings, the results of the project will most likely be a success. To me, the purpose of these meetings are to keep the client involved in the project as much as possible so that all the discussed requirements are well understood and if any changes are made by the client, then new changes can be made right there on the spot avoiding future delays. I think that the main goal here is to keep the client satisfied with the results as much as possible. When I say results I mean, making sure that what the client wants and do not want on the system application is included to the last detail. During the life cycle of the project, there are going to be many decisions to be made, and keeping in touch with the client as much as possible, the decisions might change the results of the project in terms of delays or higher costs. For example, the development team might set an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his suit, the man is described as a parent whose children В‘have consumed one or more of the defendants products while still underage (Danner, P., 2005). The lawyers have obviously decided this sounds like a good lottery case, and are trying to get the case certified as a class action that way they can offer themselves to any parents or guardians of minors who purchased alcoholic beverages from1982 to present (Danner, P., 2005). The more people they get, the more they will receive in fees and this doesn t have anything to do with them offering themselves, just to see justice done. Abualnaja Department of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Science, Taif University, Taif, KSA dujam@windowslive.com ABSTRACT This paper is devoted to derive the explicit approximate solutions for the time fractional (Caputo sense) coupled Burger s equations with implementation of the homotopy perturbation method. The numerical results are compared with the exact solution at special cases of the fractional derivatives. The results reveal that the proposed method is very effective and simple. Keywords: Fractional differential equations; Caputo s derivative; Homotopy perturbation method. MSC 2010: 65N20; 41A30. INTRODUCTION Ordinary and partial fractional differential equations (FDEs) have been the focus of many studies due to their frequent appearance in various applications in damping laws, motion in Newtonian fluid, dynamical systems, viscoelasticity, biology, physics and engineering ([3], [6]). Consequently, considerable attention has been given to the solutions of fractional differential equations of physical interest. Most fractional differential equations do not have exact solutions, so numerical techniques ([12], [18]) must be used. Also, some untraditional approximate methods have recently been developed by scientists and engineers ([1], [14]). In this paper we will implement one of these methods, namely, homotopy perturbation method (HPM) which was firstly presented by He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Guilt In To Kill A Mockingbird In today s world racism is not common as it was in the 1900 s. In the early 1900 s racism was very common, and most of the white Americans were racist to the Minorities. Although racism was common in the 1900 s it is now frowned upon and not very common at all. Minorities are now not rejected in today s world, and are accepted like any other person. Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird shows that guilt can be unfairly determined based on racial discrimination. • 11. The Roles Of The Social Pillar And Legitimacy Theory In... Environmental Pillar With the global warming and climate change posing imminent threat to the world, companies are now taking measures to reduce the negative impact to the environment caused by their organization. This may include reducing carbon footprint, finding renewable energy sources, and having policies to reduce pollution (Nyfeler, 2013). Social Pillar The organization must maintain the support of its employees, the stakeholders, the community, and the government. The social Pillar appeals to the moral sense of the society. As an organization, it must ensure that its policies and means of production ensure the welfare and rights not just of the employees and stakeholders, but also of the consumers and general public (Journeault, 2016). Economic Pillar The main responsibility of an organization or a company is to ensure that it remains profitable. However, the Economic Pillar does not focus only on the profitability of a company. It focuses on the responsibility of companies to dutifully comply with all state regulations and policies, and ensure credibility and integrity of its public disclosures. A sustainable economic model suggests an efficient allocation and even handed distribution of resources (Journeault, 2016). 3.2.3 Legitimacy Theory in Accounting In accounting, according to Tilling (2014), there are two major classes of Legitimacy Theory. The first one is on an Institutional Level while the other one is the Organizational Level. What is important is that Legitimacy Theory is all about conforming to the Social Contract of the society, or in this case, of the nation in which the organization is functioning. Institutional Level The institutional legitimacy refers to how an organization gained acceptance from the society as a whole at large. Legitimacy and Institutionalization become the same as for an organization to become a recognized institution, its values, principles, purpose and goals must have been long before established as socially accepted. Institutional matters affect all individual actions, influence cooperation and are vital in distinguishing growth and stagnation, wealth and poverty (Colombatto, 2012). If we put as much effort in ending poverty as we do in fighting each other in a race war, we might actually get somewhere on both grounds. Though there are many studies that have been done on the difference of education level among race or ethnicity, one thing has been proven, no matter the color or ethnicity of the child, studies have proved that students who live in poverty score well below average (Lacoure and Tissington) socially and academically. Children that suffer from poverty are one point three times more likely to have developmental delays or learning disabilities than those who don t live in poverty (11 Facts about Education and Poverty in America). Child poverty can affect a child s foundation of life long skill that they will use as building blocks in creating relationship with teachers and their fellow peer. Through poverty the intellectual ability and brain growth of a child can be interfered with if a child s emotional needs are not met, in turn creating hardships that will follow them throughout life. It has been shown through many reported studies that a child s performance in life can be affected by the level of family income. Though there are many ways that these children can be helped through providing material things, meeting a child s necessity of affection and attention at home is something that cannot be bought. This truth can be harsher to the reader than works of fiction; it can make an author s desire to reveal the essence of society through characters the reader relates to risky and unpopular. Stephen Crane wrote of ordinary people who face difficult circumstances that his readers could relate to (Seaman 148). Crane sought to debunk the ideas that were inherent in nineteenth century literature, which depicted life in a more favorable, but often unrealistic, light. • 18. The, The Jungle By Upton Sinclair, And The Help By Kathryn... The definition of academic writing has varied consistently throughout the course of any youth s life. One moment, it is the grand discovery that intrigues the very lives of all, such as Sir Isaac Newton s 17th century publication, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy). Also known as Principia, it is said to be, Arguably, the most important book published in the history of science (Hatch). At another point in one s youth, academic writingcould have been defined as the challenging of moralities. An example of such writing would be, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, or, The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Now, as one begins to take on academic writing at a collegiate level, the author of any piece of literature must take these two accounts into great consideration. Academic writing can be defined as the freedom to express opinionated thoughts over a certain, agreed topic, so that others may be introduced to different perspectives and form new, underlying ideas. As stated by Tibor Baukal, A response paper is your chance to communicate in writing your personal viewpoint and personal learning as they relate specifically to the book, essay, paper, article, etc. in question and the ideas and values contained therein ( Eros and Psyche ). Response papers, are therefore, the prime example of academic writing. So, what is the actual definition of academic writing? According to information gathered from the USC Libraries: Research ... It s the time when we look around our lives and feel grateful for all that we have. Our families, friends, and all of the love in our lives. We are grateful for the work that we do. We look to see the silver lining in all of our difficult situations, and feel grateful for the opportunity to learn so much from. Did you notice how abundant you felt when you were standing the in place of all of that gratitude? Gratitude is a powerful thing to exercise when we are looking to create more abundance in our lives. Why? Because as we focus on all that we are grateful for, we begin to feel more abundant, and when we begin to feel more abundant we then begin to attract flow of abundance in our lives. What you focus on grows. Like attracts like. That s why you won t increase the abundance in your life by focusing on all that you don t have. There is a blessing for us in the loving expression of gratitude. As we focus on what we have, we create more of it. As we focus on on our joy, we create more of that. • 23. Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The Age... Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art and other media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world. Benjamin s concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had such an effect on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura would be applied to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions in which users share ideas, images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users sabotage aura through the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter Benjamin felt about reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the early 20th century, often combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish theory, and aesthetic principles into his work. One of his most famous essays, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, focused on discernment of art with the introduction of technological methods of rapidly reproducing it. Benjamin used the idea of aura to center his arguments around. Aura, as defined by Benjamin is A strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a distance, however near it may be (Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term exhibits its quite enigmatic meaning. Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something is perceived in relation to its environment and its character. A social networking site that exemplifies the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st century website and app that allows users to handle content in any way they desire. Users can simply read others content, share their own, comment their ideas, or just merely read and absorb. The unique aspect about Twitter is its retweet function. • 24. Silgrim In The Canterbury Tales At the end of the 14th century, England s first great poet, Geoffrey Chaucer assembled a collection of over twenty stories into the novel The Canterbury Tales. During the Hundred Years War, Chaucer composed these tales in Middle English. The Canterbury Tales is a collection of fictional stories presented by a group of English men and women as they travel along on a religious pilgrimage. The purpose of this trek was to seek the martyred saint s blessings and to express thanks to the saint for helping them live through such harsh winter conditions. Throughout the General Prologue, Chaucer creates a challenge for the pilgrims as they embark on their expedition to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at the CanterburyCathedral as a way to provide entertainment. For this tale telling contest, each pilgrim would tell four tales: two on the way to the Canterbury Cathedral and two on the return home. Upon their return, the best storyteller would receive a free meal at the Tabard Inn, courtesy of the other pilgrims, as a reward. Eventually with the conclusion of the legal process, the strenuous atmosphere surrounding the trial, and ultimately the completion of the Oklahoma City National Memorial to honor those lives lost that day, the last challenge this community face was overcome. • 36. Death In Venice Themes Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, was told from the point of view of Gustav von Aschenbach. The main theme of the novel was Aschenbach following around a little Italian boy, Tadzio. Tadzio reminds Aschenbach of himself when he was a child. Aschenbach and Tadzio were ill as children which is why Aschenbach becomes infatuated with Tadzio. Aschenbach was home schooled as a child because he was very ill and his parents decided that it was best for him to remain isolated from the other children. He came from a wealthy family which allowed him to live this lifestyle. The difference between the two is that although Tadzio is ill as a child he was still presented opportunities to play with other children and gain experiences. Part of the reason that Aschenbach as an adult has writers block is because as a child and as a young adult he didn t have communication with the outside world. The remainder of this essay will be focused on the fact that if Aschenbach lived a normal life like Tadzio then the consequences of Aschenbach s legacy wouldn t have been tarnished . As Aschenbach s character developed throughout the book, his appearance also changed which was caused by the behavior of Tadzio. Tadzio possess something that Aschenbach didn t have when he was a child, a childhood. In the novel Aschenbach sees an Oldman that has changed his appearance in order to fit in with the younger crowd. For example, the Oldman dyed his hair. He is appalled by this but later on he actually changes his appearance to become closer to Tadzio. Aschenbach is trying to reunite with his youth. The obsession with the young boy, which shows itself as lust, is really his desire to be young again. By pursuing Tadzio dressed as a youthful figure, he thinks he can achieve this. Aschenbach s outward transformation is completed with help from the hotel barber. Aschenbach dyes his hair black, applies cosmetics to his face, and arches his eyebrows. The result is a more youthful Aschenbach. If Aschenbach lived a normal childhood he wouldn t have the desire as an adult to become a child once again and follow Tadzio. In reality, the change in his appearance made Aschenbach look like a clown which is how other people perceived him when he dies watching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the 38 people who witnessed a murder and didn t bother to help fled or rather dismissed it. Summary Of Laurence Gonzales Miraculous Survivors Summary of Miraculous Survivors CNN journalist, John Blake, takes interest in a book written by Laurence Gonzales about why certain people survive while others do not. In Miraculous Survivors, Laurence Gonzales points out, that people with these certain traits are more likely to survive, than people who do not have those certain traits. One of the first traits Gonzales mentions is, survivors do not declare themselves as victims. He explains that survivors do not feel helpless with in complicated situations. They do not expect someone else to rescue them. Gonzales notes, These are people who tend to have a view of the world that doesn t paint them as a victim . . . They re not whiners . Gonzales implies, if the person has a mind set on something, that is their final decision, they will do anything in their power to do it. For example, one of the few survivors Gonzales wrote about was a woman named Kiley who survived a yacht crash in Maine when she was 20 years old. Gonzales wrote, She also made a ruthless decision, She kept her distance from two male companions in the boat who bickered and cursed with the other. She sensed that they were going to die and she didn t want to waste precious energy fighting with them. She examined her other crew mates and decided that she wanted to live her life on land, rather than be dead at the bottom of the ocean with them. However, survivors also tend to pay attention to their intuition, or their conscience. If they have decided the task is too risky, they will back out, and figure something else out that is less dangerous. Now, these traits are very specific, however, all these traits are embedded in past survivors or future survivors. What the survivors all have in common are, they are not whiners, they are independent, they are motivated, they are cautious, they are go getters, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely polluted, As much mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the earth. Here Dickens has used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses personification when referring to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning, ?smoke lowering down from the chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snowflakes?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? the contrast of the imagery he is using helps for the reader to imagine the scene,... Dickens also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of ancient Greenwich pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader feel as if it is infecting and killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my opinion Dickens is trying to make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault that one day everywhere will be covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London made. The reader is given the impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments fault. Right from the beginning the Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog? insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of London and just engulfed in his own power. • 44. The Effects Of Groundwater Pollution On The World Groundwater pollution is a prominent problem in most areas of the world. High nitrate concentrations have been identified as one of the main culprits of groundwater pollution. Agriculture is a primary anthropogenic source involved in the spreading and distribution of nitrates in rural areas. China is considered one of the largest in terms of agricultural production. As the population of China increased over time, the recycling of plant nutrients could no longer renew the loss of nutrients from harvesting. The famine between 1960 and 1970 caused radical changes when it came to policies about population control and large efforts were made to increase agricultural yields. This was encouraged by increasing the application rate of chemical fertilizers, especially ones that were nitrogen based (Emteryd, Lu and Nykyist, 1998). However, higher irrigationand nitrogen fertilizerinputs results in decreased water and nitrogen use efficiency (Hu, Li, and Chen, 2010). Currently China is the leading producer of rice, wheat onion cabbage and the second largest producer of corn (See Appendix). Presently the average annual nitrogen fertilizer application is 200 kg N/ha in China (Zhang, Xu, XIaomin, Dong and Ballantine, 2013). As a result of this, China unsurprisingly suffers from large amounts of nitratepollution in its groundwater, especially in northern China. Trench warfare, is the military discipline and strategy of digging and barricading a large system of trenches from which an army may fight while remaining somewhat protected. As one army entrenched it s self so would the other, after both opposing armies had entrenched themselves they would attempt to circle around each other to out flank each other; the ultimate goal being to defend one s own trench, while trying to take the enemy s. This method of defensive battle often resulted in long stalemates, in which many soldiers were killed. Trench warfare also results in the creation of a No Man s Land , or the space between two opposing militaries trenches. This area was often striped barren of any plant life, due to the high amounts of gun and artillery fire between both opposing armies. One example of trench warfare during WWI can be found at the battle of the Marne in the September of 1914. Germany, following the Schlieffen Plan, attempted to march on Paris. However, after entering French territory, the French pushed back the Germans, who came under heavy Allied artillery fire (11). The Germans were forced to dig in and entrench themselves, as a means of protection (11). It was because of the constant Allied bombardment that the Germans were forced to resort to the tactic of trench warfare. The Germans dug trenches by hand and set up barricades along the Aisne River, resulting in the first defensive tactics of the war (11). Another prime example of trench warfare is the ... To be considered a professional engineer, a license is needed (Mraz, Changes in the Engineering Profession Over 80 Years ). Another evolution of engineering that occurred, was companies switching to a system called concurrent engineering. This is essentially just making sure that all of the employees for a certain job understand each step of the design process, giving them the ability to share opinions on each step along the way. Prior to this development, each engineer in a company had knowledge only on their specialty and could not offer input on any other process. This was largely implemented in the 1980s. Because this was so hard to do, only 10 states actually established programs in which cannabis was used as a medicine. Patients had to complete extensive paperwork in order to get ... • 52. Lymphoma Research Paper Lymphoma Lymphoma is cancer that occurs when cells of the immune system, called lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, grow and multiply uncontrollably (Lymphoma.org). Lymphocytes are in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow and other parts of the body (Webmd.com). This type of cancer is the most common blood cancer (Lymphoma.org). Cancerous lymphocytes can travel to many parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, blood, or other organs, and form a mass called a tumor. Lymphocytes are the warriors of the immune system (Marieb Hoehn). The body has two main types of lymphocytes that can develop into lymphomas: B Lymphocytes (B cells) and T lymphocytes (T cells) (Lymphoma.org). T cells and B cells protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both radiation therapy and various chemotherapy drugs have been used with success in the treatment of both Hodgkin s and non Hodgkin s lymphoma. Newer treatments are developing for certain types of lymphomas including treatments using biologic medications such as antibodies that target certain lymphocytes called B cells, and stem cell transplantation (Stoppler, MD). Treatments have improved a lot, and many types of lymphoma can now be cured. Your outlook depends on: the kind of lymphoma you have, how far the cancer has spread, your age, the type of treatment you get as well as what other health problems you may have (Lymphoma.org). Early detection and treatment is always the best defense against beating cancer, so seek medical attention if you begin to experience any new or unusual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Stigmatization Of Black Queer Men Essay Stigmatization of Black Queer Men For every Black man that is born, each is gifted with the rigid expectations of being a hyper masculine male. These expectations seemed to be passed down through generations from family members. The study African American Gay Youth and Their Families: Redefining Masculinity, Coping with Racism and Homophobia. , portrays some of the hardships of coming out within this specific community. A mother who was interviewed in this study said You are told to be a man ... and being a man does not mean you sleep with other men, she said. Being a man means you have a woman and you procreate and continue the family name. And for queer black men especially, this expectation of needing a woman to be the validation for your manhood takes a toll on them and their ability to feel safe in coming out. In this essay I intend to outline the problematic expectations and stigmatization of the black queer male community and develop ways in which this problem can start to be overcome while dealing with different sections of intersectionality. Black men are often viewed as emotionless, physically strong, hyper sexual, and mischievous. There are so many rules surrounding what passing is as a man. However, not all of these rules are created by Black men themselves. These are the rules the media portrays, neighbors portray and even women in elevators clutching their purses portray. For anyone to be constantly bombarded with these stereotypes and not internalize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Astronomy Of The Field Of Excellence For All Sky... Bryan Gaensler is an Australian born astronomer who is currently leading a team of Australia s best astronomers in the ARC Centre of Excellence for All sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO). His main field of study is cosmic magnetism which also encompasses the study of supernova remnants. Because magnetic fields are not visible to the naked eye or regular telescopes, Gaensler s team must use radio telescopes to view the polarised radiation being emitted. By using radio telescopes to view the fields, they are able to view the Faraday Rotation of distant objects and galaxies. Michael Faraday showed that a magnet is capable of producing a rotational motion in a conductor carrying a current. So, in this; light from a background object is altered when it is subjected to a cloud of magnetised gas. Through the analysis of these observations, three dimensional maps of cosmic magnetism can be rendered which will ultimately show the role they play in the functioning of the universe and how magnetic fields work. Gaensler s in depth studies in the area of cosmic radiation have contributed greatly to modern astronomy and to science in general. Through his works and the data he has gathered, we are, and will continue to be able to make comparisons between the magnetism of local galaxies. His study is critical to astronomy as magnetic fields are present in nearly every point in the universe and most matter is tightly fixed to a magnetic field. These fields also scatter the gas of galaxies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
