Defining relative clauses are used to explain what a person, thing, or place is or does. They use who or that for people, which or that for things, and where for places. When the relative pronoun is the subject of the clause, no additional subject noun or pronoun is needed. Defining relative clauses identify the person, thing, or place being referred to.
