Video Games Are Not Safe For Young Viewers
Vanderbilt blogger Emily Hughes states that video games have been around for over 50 years,
starting as coin operated console and computer games. Video games have progressed from simple 2
dimentional videos with simple controller actions to realistic and 3 dimentional videos that involve
full attention mentally and physically. The first video gamelaunched was Spacewar in 1962 where
the objective of the game was for spaceships to battle to the death in space. The theme of fighting
to the death has progressed on as a main theme in video games today. The growing theme of
violence, fighting to the death, and gore have been becoming more popular and expected in video
games leading to parents and the government to step in to set the boundaries of what type of video
games are and are not safe for young viewers.
The first uproar in the United States about violent video games was in 1976, over gaming
company Exidy s Death Race, an 8 bit arcade game in which a player s car runs over stick figures,
turning them into tombstones (Suddath). Death Race caused the United States first video gaming
ethical terror. The United States was unsure on how to deal with young children getting ahold of
violent video games and were focused on finding a way to keep the mental development of young
child out of the games harmful way. The growth of moral uproar continued in 1993 where Mortal
Kombat, which included extremely violent graphics and fatality moves, and Night Trap, in which a

Effect of Surface Area to Volume Ratio on Rate of Osmosis
[Type text] [Type text] [Type text]
_An experiment on the effect of surface area to volume ratio on the rate of osmosis of Solanum
tuberosum L._
BACKGROUND
A cell needs to perform diffusion in order to survive. Substances, including water, ions, and
molecules that are required for cellular activities, can enter and leave cells by a passive process
such as diffusion. Diffusion is random movement of molecules in a net direction from a region of
higher concentration to a region of lower concentration order to reach equilibrium. Diffusion does
not require any energy input. Diffusion is needed for basic cell functions for example, in humans,
cells obtain oxygen via diffusion from the alveoli of the lungs into the blood and in plants water ...

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the potato cube with the highest surface area to volume ratio (the 1x1x1 cube) had
the fastest rate of diffusion as it had the largest percentage increase in mass. While all the other
cubes of potato had larger increases in mass at face value compared to the smallest cube, the
smallest cube had the largest overall gain in percentage. The results support my hypothesis that the
smallest cube will have a higher rate of osmosis because it has a proportionally larger amount of
surface area compared to its volume.
As seen from the graph above, despite my hypothesis being correct, the trend in the percentage
increase of mass was not a steady

Facilities For Capacity And Location
Evaluate the facilities with regard to capacity and location. As of December 28, 2014, Johnson
Johnson has 134 manufacturing facilities, occupying 21.5 million square feet, operating in 60
countries including the United States. The facilities can be broken down by segment or
geographical area. J J also has major research facilities located in the United States, Belgium, Brazil,
Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, and
the United Kingdom. (Johnson Johnson, 2014)

To make good decisions in both areas managers should assess needs, develop alternatives, and
evaluate the alternatives. A good tool to facilitate location analysis is the break even analysis
because it evaluates location decisions based on cost values. Another good tool is the transportation
method because it evaluates the cost impact of adding sites to the network of current facilities.
Evaluate the ERP system. An ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, system is a business
management software that integrates all levels of operations. It can include product planning,
development, manufacturing, sales and marketing. The goal of a successful ERP is to improve
the flow of all shared information and data across the entire organization. In the past, Johnson
Johnson have used an ERP developed by SAP, a German multinational software company and
one of the worlds largest. More recently J J took on a massive project to consolidate and
harmonize their ERP landscape. J J s global enterprise supply chain included 120 manufacturing
sites, over 500 external manufacturers, 450 distribution centers, and over 60 ERP systems that
support about 275 operating companies (Dignan, 2013). This project was initiated because J J was
finding that they were having trouble keeping some products on shelves which affected sales. They
saw an opportunity to better meet the evolving needs of customers and hopefully improve the cost
of goods sold efficiently to

Leg Hair Removal
If one of your drains is clogged, and you don t have any chemical drain cleaner on hand and are
not able to go to the store to get anymore, here are a few easy ways you can unclog your drain
using items you probably have around your home.
Salt Water Hot Water
All that you need for this trick is some salt and hot water. Pour about half a cup of salt down your
clogged drain. Then, follow up by pouring a pot full of bowing water down your drain. Next, turn
the tap onto hot and flush the drain until the clog is clear.
You may need to repeat the salt and boiling water step again if the drain doesn t clear up after
fifteen minutes or so.
Yogurt
Take a small personal sized serving of yogurt and pour it down the drain. Do not use the drain for
several hours; just let the yogurt work its way your drain. The cultures in the yogurt overtime
should break up the clog inside of your sink. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leg Hair Remover
If you think that a clump of hair is clogging up your drain, you can use some leg hair remover to
clear your drain. Take a container of leg hair remover and pour it down your drain. Let it sit in
your drain for at least an hour; this will give it some time to break up the hair that is clogging your
drain.
After an hour or so has passed, pour a pot of hot water down your drain, then wait again. This will
push the hair remover further down your drain and will allow it to continue to break down the hair.
After another hour or so has passed, run the hot tap and see if the drain has become unclogged.
Baking Soda Apple Cider Vinegar
If your drain is not completely clogged but is draining slower than it should, pour equal amounts
of baking soda and apple cider vinegar down your drain. These two ingredients will interact with
one another and create a bunch of foam, so you may want to cover the drain with a cup to keep the
foam concentrated and working inside of the

George Orwell s Writing Style
The English language changes dramatically over time, effecting how English writers formulate
their words; some argue that these changes are not for the better. In the essay Politics and the
English Language, George Orwell evaluates both modern and past works, and elaborates on his
views of how language degrades. He conveys that the modern writingstyle needs considerable
improvement. Orwell wants writers and speakers, such as politicians, to adjust their phrasing to
favor clarity. At first, Orwell uses modern language errors in his own writing to demonstrate
their impracticality, then he reveals how modern writers dupe their readers, in the end Orwell
warns his audience of the harmful effects of deficient writing. Right away, the author derides the
modern writing style to establish the framework of his message. Orwell lists examples of bad
modern phrasing throughout his essay. In one instance, he uses a mocking tone before listing a
number of improper phrases, asserting that they . . . save the trouble of picking out appropriate
verbs and nouns (Orwell 3). The author does not literally mean that the phrases he lists avoid the
necessity of choosing the right words; he uses the words save the trouble as a kind of joke. He
applies a sarcastic tone to make his audience take the use of these phrases less seriously. His
wittiness makes the phrases that modern writers use seem almost laughable because they are so
unclear in their complexity. Through his mockery, he

Analysis Of With The Planets, Op 32, By Gustav Holst
With The Planets, Op. 32, composed 1914 1916, Gustav Holst incorporates a wide array of
cultural and scientific references to create musical characters for each of the planets in our solar
system. The scientific connection is immediately clear simply by looking at how Holst chose to
order the movements. While he does not specifically place the planets in order of distance from the
sun, they still follow a pattern that clearly references their positions in space. Mars, Venus, and
Mercury open the suite, being numbers 3, 2, and 1 from the sun (neglecting to count Earth, which
does not appear). Following this are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, being numbers 4, 5, 6,
and 7 in order. While an awareness of their scientific positions is... Show more content on

Mars and Venus, movements 1 and 2, reflect similar dual scientific and mythological references.
Mars is the god of war, and his musical themes are clearly warlike: A menacing war drum rhythm
is present throughout, with low tones, dominant 5ths, and threatening melodies. Scientifically,
Mars appears red through a telescope a color commonly associated with war, rage, blood, and
fighting (for example, the phrase seeing red means anger, especially violent anger). Venus, in great
contrast to Mars, is a soft, sweet, and loving movement, reflecting the goddess Venus s dominion of
romantic love. Through a telescope, Venus appears white with occasional tones of soft yellow
colors that are associated with softness, light, and comfort (think of our association between the
color white and the concept of purity).
The remaining four movements follow the same pattern. Jupiter, or Zeus in the Greek tradition,
is the god of lightning (depicted holding a lighting bolt) as well as the mostly benevolent ruler of
the gods. His reign in Olympia is associated largely with peace and prosperity, which is reflected
in his jolly musical movement he is the Bringer of Jollity, per Holst. However, in contrast to
Mercury, this is a more stately jollity, reflecting both his enhanced position in the pantheon as well
as the planet s physically large size. A musical sense of storm beneath the surface, of potential
power and strong

Summary Of The Nacirema Culture
This article starts by stating that it is going to describe the magical beliefs and practices of the
Nacirema people and it seemingly does just that (Miner). The normality of the American way of
living is removed and just the facts are left to be described as a seemingly different culture. Upon
rereading, there are many facts that show the reader that the author is talking about Americans, but
they are easily skimmed over with the guise that this is some other culture. For Example, the author
even states that the Nacirema live in North Americabetween Canada and Mexico (Miner). He even
goes on to tell the reader about their cultural hero Notgnihsaw, which is Washington spelled
backwards, and mentions his feat of cutting down a cherry tree (Miner).... Show more content on

Miner briefly mentions that the Nacirema are obsessed with the economy and economic pursuits
but the bulk of the information is bases on the rituals of their bodies. Miner states that the belief
of these people is that the human body is ugly and prone to disease. The only way to combat this
idea is to perform rituals and ceremonies (Miner). The next thing described is a bathroom or the
shrine in which the rituals are performed. He talks about how houses can be valued by how many
bathrooms it has, and how the walls of bathrooms are normally much nicer than the walls
everywhere else in the house. Miner finishes that section by stating that every family has at least
one shrine and everyone in the family performs an individual ritual that they learned at young

Essay On Beauty Of The Yard
Mesmerizing beauty of the yard:
Gazing out of my bedroom window one night, I witnessed a breathtaking view of the yard. As if
you are transferred into a fairy tale. The sky seemed like a piece of beautiful painting. The whole
ambiance of the space was captivating. The fluffy clouds were dancing around the moon making
the light falling on the ground to glimmer dramatically. By the passing time the cloud shift shapes
into something new and exciting each time. The stone pathway led one to the exquisite marble
fountain. The soft moonlight hitting the marble make it shine as white as pearls. The moonlight
made everything, the flowers the tree leaves and bushes all glittered like jewels. A light breeze
was making the branches dance to their own rhythm. The cool wind carrying the smell of the
flowers was a reminder of a spring day. The chirping of night life added more life to the whole
scenario. The soothing environment of the yard portrayed the idea of how the heaven must look like.
Horror of the yard: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The horrific scenario was as if you are living your worst nightmare. The thick clouds covering the
moon made it impossible for the light to penetrate through. This made the yard dark and gloomy as
a graveyard. The transformation of the clouds from one shape to another made the night even
scarier. The stone pathway led one to a dirty and broken marble fountain. The little light that
manages to pass through the clouds highlights the broken fountain more revealing its flaws. The
moonlight escaping the clutches of the clouds cast terrifying shadows. The cold breeze sways the
branches making them dance like ghosts. The air carried a horrible stench of decomposing leaves
and flowers. This made the scenario much more unsettling. The howling of the night beasts made
the night petrifying. The terrifying environment of the yard portrayed the idea of how your

Coach Carter Comparison
Life is an inexplicable process of existence. It has never been understood and will probably not
be understood in the years to come. In life we see comparisons and contrasts everyday in our
lives in one way or another. At the same time it is astonishing too, how one situation, person or
movie can have amazing resemblances to other situations and movies. It is always a whirlpool of
a mixture of comparisons and contrasts. One just needs an observant eye or a magnifying glass to
look at things differently. Excellent examples of this are two great movies; Coach Carter and
Pursuit of Happiness . Coach Carter directed by Thomas Carter is about the struggle of a man who
tries to mend his basketballteam into becoming educated students along with strong athletes.
Pursuit of Happiness directed by Gabriele Muccino is about a salesman who is struggling to make
ends meet, and raise his son after the motherwalks out on them. After watching these two movies,

the same time. Both movies display technical codes, theme of motivation and the analysis of the

Dreamliner 787 Case Study
Boeing is the worlds largest aerospace company. While Boeing is known mostly known for their
commercial airplanes they also manufactures defense, space and security systems, military aircrafts,
weapons, satellites, electronic defense systems, launch systems and information and
communication systems (Boeing, 2013). In this case we are going to focus on the Dreamliner 787,
and the problems that came with the creation of it. The first Boeing 787Dreamliner was delivered
to Japan s ANA in 2011, nearly 40 months after the planned delivery date. The expected delivery
was in May 2008, but the fuel efficient 787 Dreamliner s manufacturing had become complicated
due to multiple changes in the design and supply chain implemented all at once. Far from the
traditional manufacturing, Dreamliner design consists of many new features like unique design,
one piece fuselage, reduced weight, 20% increase in fuel economy, and reduction in maintenance
time. Apart from the changes in design, another major difficulty was the company s global supply
chain network. For the first time ever Boeing outsourced two most critical parts fuselage and
wings. Everything put together, the complications kept increasing and so is the delay. At least
when the plane finally the entered the market years later design came out as expected, and there
weren t any sacrifices to the design that had to be made. The plane can hold from 210 250
passengers on routes of 7650 8200 nautical miles and satisfies the fuel

Prion Disease Essay
Sometimes a scientific discovery shakes the confidence of scientists, making them question whether
they truly understand nature s ground rules. That s exactly what prions have done to scientists
understanding of the ground rules for infectiousdiseases. Prions cause diseases, but they aren t
viruses or bacteria or fungi or parasites. They are simply proteins, and proteins were never thought
to be infectious on their own. Organisms are infectious, proteins are not. Or, at least, they never
used to be. Prions entered the public s consciousness during the mad cow epidemic that hitEngland
in 1986. For decades, however, scientists had searched for unusual, atypical infectious agents that

Sheep and goats with the disease scrapie, which is like mad cow disease, become so uncomfortable
and itchy that they frantically rub up against anything they can, finally scraping off В– hence, the

and release prions into the tissue. These prions then enter, infect, and destroy other brain cells.
And, as clusters of cells die, the brain stops looking like a brain and starts looking more like
Swiss cheese. The medical term for the prion diseases is spongiform encephalopathies, in
acknowledgement that the sick brains are riddled with holes and have taken the form of sponges.
Shepherds and farmers whose sheep had scrapie never seemed to get scrapie themselves. So, for a
long time, scientists assumed that the prions of animals did not cause infections in humans. But,
between 1994 and 1996, 12 people in
England came down with Creutzfeld Jakob disease (CJD), a human prion disease whose
symptoms are not unlike those of the mad cows, and all the victims had eaten beef from cows
suspected of having mad cow disease. In October, 1996, scientists in England reported that the
prions from ten of the British patients were remarkably like those of the mad cows and not like

Apache Concept Of Wisdom
Wisdom is of unlimited importance in our daily lives. As humans, one cannot survive without
wisdom. The Apache culture says, Wisdom is viewed first and foremost as an instrument of
survival. (131). Like air, without wisdom humans cannot flourish. Therefore, it is of extreme
importance that, as humans, we find a way to discover wisdomand integrate it into our lives.
However, Wisdom is not the same for everyone and therefore how each of us finds or locates
wisdom might look different. Throughout this course we have discussed the concept of place and
how it can help us find infinite wisdom. The Apache people tell us that to find wisdom we must

The Apaches people say, steady human minds maintain themselves in a manner that ensures
their own stability and reliability. This is achieved by relinquishing all thoughts of superiority
and by eliminating aggressive feelings towards fellow humans beings (133). Nursing has
allowed me to start to develop this skill. It has allowed me to let go of negative and harsh
feelings. As humans, if we are constantly worried about being better or jealous of someone else

always someone that is going to be better at something than you are or is going to get a higher

to someone else. However, when we do this we are blocking our chances to develop wisdom.
The Apache s say, Steady minds are unhampered by feelings of arrogance or pride, anger or

Franklin Delano Roosevelt s New Deal program focused on provided relief, recovery and reform to
struggling Americans. The New Deal both conservative and radical relied on heavy government
intervention, to diminish the strain and prevent a repeat of the Great Depression.
The New Deal set out to provided relief for the needy, economic recovery and reform to basic
government institutions. Although the New Deal, was not a complete success it created a political
coalition that helped millions of Americans withstand the privations of the great depression. The
New Deal allowed the federal government to become more involved in the lives of Americans.
FDR stressed the importance of government intervention, to shield Americans from the economy.
FDR S New Deal aimed to help the forgotten man at the bottom of the pyramid . The New Deal
gained strong support from farmers, factory workers, immigrants, city folk, African Americans,
women, and progressive intellectuals. FDR wanted to help the poor, who were most affected by
the depression. Roosevelt s new experimental programs expanded our government s role in
American society and economy, and left many Americans with the hope that the US government
would improve conditions. The New Deal adopted a radical motto, seeking immediate relief:

2.The Apollo of Veiiis a 5ft. 10 in. painted sculpture molded out of terra cotta. This sculpture was
originally a decoration on the roof of a temple built by the Etruscans. Both the Greek and Etruscan
s style of art was similar, with that being said the particular sculpture is a resemblance of the
Greek Archaic style of art. The curvilinear style along with the flat surface patterns of the folds of
the drape/ clothes he was wearing, the diagonal calf muscles radiating from beneath the knee, the
smile, and the style in which the hair was made (long locks) are the same characteristics of Archaic
Greek art. The difference between the Etruscan and Greek art form lies in the clear and crisp
contours, forms and stylization, of Apollo s body along with the fact that he is depicted as striding
(showing fluid flowing movement). This is also what makes the sculpture of Apollo of Veii
realistic because the sculpture not only shows fluid motion (the position of his legs and his
stretched out arms) but also the expression that is on Apollo s face.

The History of the Modern Piano
The History of the Modern Piano Pianos have been around for about three millenniums, and have
been redesigned hundreds if not thousands of times! What has kept this instrument, this form of
expressing deep feeling, so entwined with its owner and all those who hear it? The piano has
been around for such a lengthy period of time that it is described to have an epoch, or an age,
which represents its climb into fame and ends just before the current depression it s going through.
This is known as, The Age of the Piano(Bellis, About). There are many types of pianos that can be
divided into groups. The spinet piano, the console piano, and the studio piano are a few examples
of these. These are called vertical pianos, because they focus... Show more content on

His first attempt, in 1720, was successful, in the goals he was trying to accomplish, but the music
was soft and the keys were too hard to push down. We still adopt his system of 88 piano keys to
create music. Some of his original pianos still exist today in the world. There are currently ten
that are still kept in museums (Natural History, 5). The piano was first designed without a strong
system of plucking the strings. This initially made the first couple attempts a failure, but some
German inventors got together and developed a better system of making intricate sounds (with
deep and light feeling) with hammers (The Piano, 6). These depths allowed for the expression of
romanticism and emotion. The piano was invented, because the harpsichord was unable of
creating depths (Bellis, About). It was made because of a want or need for music and feeling.
Pianos, today, are still used in creating music and beats which are enjoyed by the people who
listen to these sounds. The piano has been a part of creating, playing, and enjoying music for a
long time, but is losing demand. People have been trying to come up with different methods of
creating sound, of playing sound, and of listening to these two ingredients of sound mixed together

Separate But Equal Doctrine
Brianna Ellis Mrs. Holt M/J Law Studies 8 October 2017 African Americans were granted full
citizenship, by the Fourteenth Amendment, in the year of 1868; segregation did not end until
almost a hundred years later, in 1964. The separate but equal doctrine allowed segregation as long
as blacks and whites had equal facilities. During the time of separate but equal many debated
whether this doctrine was constitutional or not. The monumental Supreme Court cases Plessy vs
Ferguson and Brown vs Board of Education shaped America s society by deciding the
constitutionality of the separate but equal doctrine. In the year of 1896, the Supreme Court case
Plessy vs Ferguson shaped America s society by concluding that the separate but equal doctrine was
constitutional. This all began when Homer Plessy, who was one eighth black, sat in the white
designated train car. He was arrested because he was in violation of the 1890 Separate Car Act,
which declared that all rail companies must implement separate but equal accommodations for
white and black passengers. Plessy contended in court that the Act infringed upon the Thirteenth
and Fourteenth Amendments. After two unsuccessful attempts in lower courts, he took his case to
the Supreme Court, which upheld the earlier rulings that segregation is constitutional under the
separate but equal doctrine. The Supreme Court decision for Plessy vs Ferguson ruled in favor of
Ferguson, 7 1. The majority found that the separate but equal doctrine did not violate the Thirteenth
and Fourteenth Amendment, while the minority found the complete opposite. The majority

The Guide for the Perplexed is a series of three books that argues for the compatibility of
Aristotelian philosophy and Judaism. The first book deals with the nature of God, concluding that
God cannot be described in positive terms. The second book examines natural philosophy,
particularly Aristotle s system of concentric spheres, and theories of the creation and duration of
the universe, and the theory of angels and prophecy. In the last Book, he clarifies the mystical
Merkabah section of Ezekiel (Friedlander, Sacred Texts). Following this he covers the 613 laws of

The media has also been a criticized industry because of their often critical stances on issues.
Despite this fact, little is actually know about the people who produce the content that is so heavily

stories of these individuals who are often.
Written in 1973, a year after the dramatic Presidential election of 1972, the boys on the bus shows
the election from a unique perspective. A few distinct contrast are shown that highlight the truth
behind journalism. The first is the comradery and competition amongst journalist, second is the
human side of the candidates, and lastly is the way scandals are covered. Within these topics, the

Study on Delhi
The lack of standard concepts in research is perhaps the most significant difficulty in the
comparison of results between studies.[1] In the running injury field, many researchers have noted
the problem of how to define a running related injury.[2 4] Some investigators have suggested the
need for a standardised definition of running related injury.[2, 5 7] However, a consensushas not yet
been reached; thus, researchers have used different definitions in their studies.[3, 8, 9]
Currently, the rates of prevalence and incidence of running injuries vary between 19% and 92%,
depending on the injury definition adopted in the study. This means that the lack of standardisation
of injury definitions may affect study results.[2, 3, 5, 9 15] For instance, Bovens, et al. [16] used a
broad definition of running related injury as any physical complaint developed in relation with
running activities and causing restriction in running distance, speed, duration or frequency ; they
found an injury incidence of 84.9%. On the other hand, Blair, et al. [17] adopted a more stringent
definition of running related injury as an injury that causes the runners to stop running for at least
seven days ; they found a lower injury incidence of 24%. The higher rate of injury found in the
first study may be due to the lack of a specific period of interruption or time off from running in the
definition used, in contrast to the definition used in the second study, which clearly specifies the
period of

Phyllis Schlafly described marriage as the best thing a woman can have and the basic unit of
society. That women liberators are doing no one a favor and things should be as it was. American
women do not want to be liberated from men.
The National Organization for Women described marriageas a true partnership that (supposed) to
hold an equitable sharing of the responsibilities of home and children. A force that automatically
entitles a woman to lifelong support by a man upon her marriage and that home and family are
primarily a woman s world and responsibility; hers to dominate, his to support.

The Impact Of The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall divided Germany into the East and West because of opposing ideas of the future
for Germany. Germany was weak and pliable after barely surviving Nazi Germany, so the
vulnerable country could have been formed into anything and the major powers knew this. The
Soviet Union wanted a communist Germanyand the major democracies America, Britain, and
France wanted a democratic Germany. Because of these opposing ideas, Germany was split into the
East and West, each living an entirely different life depending on the country of influence. When
the Berlin Wallfell, though, neither side was as it was before; the country had changed in almost
every way. This essay analyzes how the Berlin Wall changed Germany, focusing on Berlin, in many
different aspects and lenses. The essay will examine how the people, the economy, the government,
religion, and literature were affected by this great divide. This essay will also explain how America
influenced German culture through integrating Western culture during the Wall in the West and
after the Wall in both sides. To what extent was Germany, especially Berlin, similar and different
politically, economically, and culturally from how it was before the Berlin Wall was built to when
it was torn down?

Reflection #3
After reading chapters 5 and 6 from the text, please read the following passages and thoughtfully
reflect on the questions. Upload your paper before the beginning of class on Monday, October 2.
1. Read Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2. After having read this story, which most modern
interpreters consider a single literary unit, reflect on and discuss the main characters: David,
Bathsheba, Nathan, Joab, and Absalom. What adjectives come to mind in describing them? Are
there any sympathetic characters? What, if any, timeless qualities do you find in the story?
Sympathetic: joab, 2. Read the Book of Amos. A. In the Book of Amos, as in a number of the
prophetic works in the Hebrew Bible, God seems to show special regard for the poor and ire
against those who oppress them. Comment on passages in Amos that relate this. B. Imagine a
contemporary Amos appearing suddenly in the US. What would he say about the behaviors and
patterns of today? How might people (e.g. leaders, media) respond to his message?

Astro physicists and scientists believe that there could be quite a few planets in the Universe

However, so far as we presently know, the Earthis the only planet which supports life which

The external forces lead to wearing away and rebuilding of the Earth s surface.
The agents of erosion physically change the Earth s surface by eroding (wearing away) land
surfaces, transporting the eroded material and depositing the weathered soil, sand and debris at
other places. For example, rain, wind and rivers erode the mountains and highlands, the eroded
particles are carried and deposited further down to form plains.
Types of landforms
MOUNTAINS
A mountain is a natural elevation of the Earth s surface rising high above its surrounding.
Mountains have narrow summits and broad bases. Mountains are found both on land and on the
ocean floor. They are of different types. Some of them are very high and some relatively short.
Some have pointed peaks, while some have rounded tops. Some have steep slopes and some have
gentle slopes. The higher reaches of the mountains can be very cold. The higher the altitude, the
lower will be the temperature.
Fold Mountains
Fold Mountains are formed by the upward movement and folding of land masses due to lateral
compression caused by tectonic or internal forces. When two plates move towards each other, the
place of convergence of the two plates gets compressed. The crust along the edge gets crumpled or
folded. Massive layers of the Earth s crust get uplifted as a result of these converging forces,
resulting in the formation of Fold Mountains.

Essay on Existentialism in Night
Existentialism in Night In his essay Existentialism , Jean Paul Sartre discusses the main beliefs
of existentialism. Perhaps the most important belief of existentialism is that there is no human
nature, and there is no God. This means that each individual man has control of his own destiny.
The definition of each individual man is the sum of his life and all he has accomplished in his life.
He is also responsible for all the choices and actions he makes in his life. These types of choices
and actions can be seen in the book Night by Elie Wiesel. This book is a story about a boy, Wiesel,
who is taken to a concentration camp with his family. It follows him and his father through their
trials and movement from Auschwitz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poor man Moshe the Beadle helps him; they would sit for hours and talk. Sartre would call this
existentialism. Wiesel took control of his own destiny and future, despite his father s wishes. He
doesn t let his father s efforts discourage him. He begins to learn the cabbala, which is an
existentialist decision since the main idea of existentialism is creating your own self.
Another example of an existentialist decision occurs in the concentration camp of Buna, when a
young boy is to be hanged with two adults. Many of the Oberkapos had little boys that they liked
and had hang around for sexual purposes. Someone at the camp was suspected of blowing up
the electric station, and eventually they found it to be the Dutch Oberkapo, and he was arrested.
This Oberkapo had a little boy (not his son), and he would not say whether or not the man had
done it, so they decided to hang him. Many of the men are thoroughly disturbed by the fact that
the boy being hanged was so young. Many of the young boys grew meaner than some adults, but
the Dutchman s little servant was loved by all. He had the face of a sad angel (60). The
Lagerkapo who is supposed to do the hanging refuses, and SS officers have to step in and
perform the execution. This Lagerkapo shows an existentialist decision because he takes control
of his own life. He does not want his life to include the hanging of a small boy. Remember,
according to Sartre, a man s life includes

Similarities Between Prokaryotic And Eukaryotic Cells
Cells were divided into two, which are, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Examples of prokaryotic
cells are Bacteria and Archae, while the examples of eukaryotic cells are Protists, Fungi, plants and
animals. All cells share certain basic features, but the major difference between prokaryotic and
eukaryotic cells is their DNA. Thus, these two cells have different features on DNA transcription
and proteinsynthesis mechanisms. The general processes of transcription may be applied to both
prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells as their basic biochemistry was the same. But, they are differs in
their specific mechanisms and regulation of transcriptions. In all species, the process of
transcriptions begins with the binding of RNA polymerase complex to a special DNA sequence at
the beginning of the gene, which named promoter. The activation of RNA polymerase leads to

Calcium Homeostasis Essay
Calcium Homeostasis
Kayla Smith
Anatomy and Physiology I
BSC 1085C Ref# 82458
Calcium plays a very significant role in our bodies. Approximately 99 percent of the calcium in our
bodies is stored in the teeth and bones. Calcium generates about two percent of our total body
weight. Calcium is crucial in bone formation, keeping strong bones and teeth and is known for
helping to prevent osteoporosis. Although calcium is mostly thought about in the bones and teeth,
it also plays important roles throughout the body. The amount of calcium outside the bones and
teeth may be small in comparison to what is inside the bones and teeth, but is very useful in many

Calcitriol moves to the nucleus of these cells and boost the role of proteins that carry calcium from
inside the small intestine to the blood. Calcitonin does the opposite of the parathyroid hormone and
vitamin D. While the parathyroid gland and vitamin D raise the calcium levels, calcitonin
decreases it. Calcitonin is a hormone secreted by the C cell of the thyroid gland that lowers
blood calcium levels by inhibiting bone resorption. (Lingohr Smith, 2011). Having high and low
levels of calcium in the body affects the body differently. Hypercalcemia is the medical term for
high blood calcium. Having too much calcium in the body can lead to an increased risk of
kidney stones, constipation, nausea, and high blood pressure. People with hypercalcemia may
also have stomach, muscle and joint pain. Very severe hypercalcemia can cause symptoms of
brain dysfunction such as confusion, emotional disturbances, delirium, hallucinations, and coma.
Irregularly low calcium levels in the blood are known as hypocalcaemia. Your bones and teeth
will begin to deteriorate because your body takes the calcium that is stored in your bones to
carry out the functions that are dependent on calcium. Hypocalcaemia can cause fragile bones,
brittle nails and can cause frequent muscle cramps. It can also cause joint pain, and put you at risk
for bone disease as you age. Low calcium levels can put you at higher risks for high blood pressure
or hypertension as well as poor

Ans1: Problem Management minimizes the adverse impact of incidents on the business and
enables root cause analysis to identify a permanent solution.
Problem Detection
Trend analysis is the key to spot the Problems. A Trend analysis helps in giving a proactive
approach to the Problem Management by which you can avoid the occurrence of the problem
earlier rather than resolving the problem at a later stage. The reports in ServiceDesk Plus gives
you information on identifying the real causes of Incidents created earlier and what should be
identified as a problem. Get the pattern of failure from an Item based reports (Report on Request
by Item and Report on Problems by Item) and identify the IT service which has to be improved.
Problem Logging
The Problem logging is critical as all the necessary information and conclusion from the incident has
to be captured while creating the Problem. Create a problem from the Incidents maintaining the
complete association and the information from it. Avoid duplicates by searching for similar
existing problems before the creation of a new Problem. Categorization
Problem categorization is very essential to avoid ambiguities. Service Desk Plus helps in applying
the incident categorization automatically to a Problem when it is created and this helps in keeping
the Problem technicians in the same level of understanding as the Incident technicians. When the

Emotions InSympathy, By Paul Laurence Dunbar
Emotions are constantly building up inside of you. Some may be feelings of joy or pleasure,
while others are emotions of sadness, pain or frustration. Typically, we relieve our emotions
through writing, by talking to therapists, possibly doing yoga, or even sleeping. Well, back in
1800s, most slaves didn t have the luxury to learn how to read or write. They were whipped for
sleeping, as they worked most hours of the day and they definitely didn t have any therapists to
talk to. This made the slaves release their emotions in more unconventional ways, such as
singing. This is described in the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, which is about the
imprisonment of the life of a slave and excerpt from Narrative (pages 8 9) by Frederick
Douglass, a personal insight to Douglass horrid life as a slave. Both texts convey the central idea
that during times of sorrow, slaves would sing to release their pain and misery. These songs they
sung were not songs of joy.
Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar depicts the idea of slaves singing for their sorrow and
releasing their emotions by using an extended metaphor which carries the entire poem. The caged
bird, referenced throughout the entire poem, are the slaves. Trapped up with no escape, not able to
break free. The metaphor of the caged bird to represent the slaves in this poem truly carries the
piece and depicts the imprisonment of slavery. Dunbar evokes imagery ,describing ...when the sun

The world of diving has been around since the 1800 s and has been seen at the Olympic games
since 1904. It first started off being called fancy diving where the aim was to plunge into the
water and see who could achieve the furthest depth underwater. It then progressed and became
more complex involving specific skills and dives which first only men were allowed to participate
in, and later women came into the society. To this day, divingis one of the most popular events
watched at the Olympic games; however this community remains small and structured because of
its intricate characteristics ( History of Diving , 1). Diving has been influenced by the constant
updating of technology and is incorporated in this world through high schools, colleges and
universities as well as numerous sporting events that occur around the world. A theorist named
John Swales analyzes communities in more detail and states that communities continue to develop
and change throughout the years and further calls these communities, discourse communities.
John Swales defines a discourse community as a group of people involved in and communicating
about a particular topic, issue, or in a particular field (Swales, 215). He specifies a discourse
community through academics; however, there are countless discourse communities worldwide
that can be perceived. Swales also analyzes a speech community, and how a discourse community
and speech community are two

Essay On Misunderstood In The Metamorpoda
Outsiders: Misjudged or Misunderstood? What does being outsider mean? Does it mean being
left out of being different? People have often felt like an outsider at one point in their life, and
wonder why. Are outsiders misjudged or misunderstood? These two terms meet at a crossroads,
and are commonly misinterpreted. Misjudging someone is when you make a solid assumption or
conclusion about them, whether it be on their looks our how they act. Being misunderstood is
when someone interprets you for someone you are not. Based on both of these definitions,
outsiders are simply misjudged. We can see examples of outsiders being misjudged both in
literature and in modern day society. The Metamorphosis , a short story written by Franz Kafka, tells

Jordan, who was unarmed, was sitting in the front passenger s seat, with four other unarmed
teens, including Jordan s brother, in the car. Roy Oliver shot at the car with a rifle. A bullet
broke through the front passenger s window and hit Jordan. Shortly after, he was rushed to a
hospital, where he died from gunshot injuries. This story is one of many that has happened just
in 2017. A total of 6 million african americans were killed by police officers in the year 2016.
One possible explanation for the racial disparities is that police tend to patrol high crime
neighborhoods, which are disproportionately black. That means they are going to be generally
more likely to initiate a policing action, from traffic stops to more serious arrests, against a black
person who lives in these areas. This goes to show how misjudged most of modern day society
is. More and more people are judged on their appearance or in this situation, where they live.
However, one could argue that outsiders are just misunderstood. For example, referring back to
the last paragraph, the african american culture is misunderstood because of a stereotype they
have always had hanging over their shoulders. Or even back to The Metamorphosis , Gregor was
misunderstood because his family at first became blind and relied on Gregor for the support of
Welfare, but they soon realized that Gregor was the happiness of the family. Outsiders could also
be misunderstood because some people chose to be outsiders

Stomach Acid Lab Report
This experiment investigates the effect of stomach acid at different pH levels on the solubility of
metformin hydrochloride tablets. According to my results, the metformin hydrochloride tablets
dissolved at a faster rate in the simulated stomach acid with less alcohol, and therefore, more acidic.
This conclusion, proves the hypothesis stated above. As predicted, the simulated acidwith less
traces of alcohol was a more suitable environment for the medicine to dissolve at a faster rate.
Consequently, the tablets took a longer time to dissolve in the acid with a greater concentration of
alcohol. In consideration of the uncertainties, the two graphs above show that as the pH level
increases and becomes more basic, the amount of time for the tablets... Show more content on

When measuring out the substances for this experiment, an individual could get random errors
when slightly different values are collected each time they perform the measurement. Systematic
errors, on the other hand, are more difficult to detect but can be avoided if an individual looks
for them with care. A systematic error can occur in this experiment if the chemicals that are used
are expired or when the scales that are being used have been tampered with beforehand. Aside
from random and systematic errors, there are a few limitations in the design of this experiment.
The use of small graduated cylinders can provide inaccurate results for the experiment. Since the
smaller cylinders can only hold a small amount of acid, there is a possibility that the solutions can
undergo supersaturation, when a solution contains more of the dissolved material than could be
dissolved by the solvent. In a case that this happens, it would be difficult to predict when the tablet
stop dissolving in the solution. Therefore, due to the number of errors that could be made in this
experiment, the results are a little unreliable unless changes are made during the procedure and
design of the lab set

Positron Emission Tomography
3. Advantages and Setbacks of PET Positron emission tomography is primarily used in the area of
medicine and research study. It has been influential in finding the cure for many diseases including
Alzheimer s and cancer. The positron emitting glucose analog, 18F fluoro 2 deoxyglucose (FDG)
has helped in the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring therapeutic response in various cancers. The
metabolic imaging assessment is very helpful in providing important clinical data which in turn
improves the patient management [6]. It is proved that the FDG PET scan has better sensitivity,
specificity, and diagnostic accuracy when compared to CT imaging in most cancer patients. The
advantages of PET over other molecular imaging techniques are detailed in the following sections.
3.1 Advantages 3.1.1 Sensitivity The most important advantage of PET imaging is it s ability to
exhibit a higher sensitivity (detecting and recording more number of emitted events) when
compared to other methods such as SPECT, in which physical collimators are required to reject
photons, which are not within a defined angular range. Hence the collimators have lower geometric
efficiencies i.e. the percentage of detecting emitting photons (0.01%) [7]. 3.1.2 Coincidence
Detection in PET Due to the annihilation event in PET, there is no need to employ physical
collimators. The collimation is done electronically using the coincidence detection method. This in
turn increases the angle of acceptance and hence the number of

The Discretionary Powers of the Criminal Justice System of...
The discretionary powers of the Criminal Justice system of the United States
By Jonell Fergsuon
In the Criminal justice system the police, the prosecutors and corrections are afforded discretion
with regard to enforcing and interpreting the law. Here I will discuss both pros and cons with
regards to the fair administration of justice in the United States.
The Police
The police are afforded a wide range of discretional powers, covering things from deciding
whether or to arrest someone to determining disciplinary actions in the workplace. With regards to
deciding to arrest someone, I can see many reasons why this discretion is necessary. For example
the police come across two young girls in a park smoking marijuana.
Now the law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when responding to scenarios of underage drinking and assault, it was
New South Wales police who were more likely to divert young offenders. There were very few
significant relationships between attitudes and behavior when examining either group, with
significant results possibly being a side effect of large sample sizes. Further there were few
significant relationships when considering demographic or situational variables.
However, in an exploration of police personality, through cluster analysis, evidence was found for
different typologies , or resonances, of police. The results indicate that police are not an
homogenous group. In addition, quite complex relationships between measures of police behavior
and individual difference were found within the resonances, with effect sizes showing moderate
results. The findings support the need to investigate further personality typologies and extend them
to the examination of attitude behavior relationships. In addition, research into the use of an
attitudinal measure, such as discretionary ideology, as an alternative to measuring behavior could
be expanded.
Moreover, broadening of the research into additional areas of the juvenile justice systems, such as
legal representatives, magistrates, and youth detention centre officers, would provide further insight
into the

Hamlet Theme Of Revenge Essay
The play Hamlet by William Shakespeare follows Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, following the
death of his father. Just months after his sudden death, his uncle Claudius has taken the throne that
once belonged to his father and has married Hamlet s mother, Gertrude. It is when Hamlet meets
his father s ghost one night and discovers that his father was murdered by Claudius that he begins
to take part in the main theme of the play: revenge. In order for there to be revenge, the act of
punishing someone who has done something wrong in one s eyes, three things are needed: a
motive, the expression that he wants revenge, and the carrying out of the act. If each aspect is
successfully fulfilled, then there is a theme of revenge. The first thing... Show more content on

This establishes Hamlet s relationship with his father because he is taking his time to deal with
his father s death because it is hard for him, showing that they had a strong relationship with one
another, contrast to his mother who has remarried just months after. When he meets his father s
ghost he is told: Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchid, A serpent stung me. So the whole ear
of Denmark Is by a forged process of my death Rankly abused. But know, thou noble youth, The
serpent that did sting thy father s life Now wears his crown. (1.5.32 40) where his father explains
that he was not bitten by a poisonous snake, like Hamlet was told was the cause of his death, but
was instead murdered by whomever wear his crown (1.5.32), which is Hamlet s uncle, Claudius. It
is Hamlet s relationship with his father, someone whom he loved dearly, and his reaction to his
death, causing it to be hard for him, that shows that he would have reason to want revenge on
whomever killed him for participating in the most terrible act anyone can: murder. What makes
revenge different from simply getting angry and getting back at someone is that they have to
express a want for revenge prior to carrying out the act. This would require Hamlet to display his
craving for revenge following his discovery that his father was murdered, giving him time

Marcus Ulpius Trajanus, better known as Trajan, was a Roman emperor from 98 AD until his
death on August 9, 117 AD. He was born on September 18, 53 AD in Italica Spain, where he
lived with his mother, Marcia and his father, also named Marcus Ulpius Trajanus. Trajan was the
first emperor to be born outside of Italy, in Italica. He was a successful soldier and general; he
was very passionate about war. Nerva the emperor before him adopted him as his son because he
had no children. Nerva died a natural death and after Trajan became emperor. During the time of
Trajan s ruling the Christians in Rome were persecuted. It is difficult to say if Trajan was positive
or negative for the empire. He did good things and also terrible things. He fixed

I was born at St. Anthony s Hospital and raised in Denver, Colorado. I was a healthy baby at 5.25
pounds and 18.19 inches, with no medical problems. In the first minute, my Apgar score was a
nine. The Apgar test is given to babies to test general conditions of pulse, grimace, activity,
respiration, and appearance, when they are first born. One test is given in the first minute of
birth and the second test is given after five minutes (Berk, 2009). This test does not predict how
babies develop, grow up, or their personality (Berk, 2009). I scored twos in pulse, grimace, activity,

and brothers, known as make believe play. Make believe play is when children pretend
activities, such as dressing up like adults and making unrealistic food (Berk, 2009). I was very
active and loved running, especially long distance. My father was the one who influenced my
passion for running because he loved being active and he put me in physical activities, such as
track. This was a passive genetic environmental correlation because my dad who was a natural
athlete enrolled me in track as third grader, which increased the possibilities of me becoming a
good athlete based on environmental and genetic conditions (Berk, 2009). I won the Principal s

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Humane Society Of The United...
The Humane Society of the United States, HSUS, has released many commercials to show the
terrible conditions that some animals are subject to live in. These commercials also promote the
need for people to adopt from shelters, and give these animals a second chance at a better life.
This commercial in particular shows singer, and 3rd place contestant on The Voice , Christina
Grimmie, playing the piano, and singing her version of Bonnie Tyler s Holding Out for a Hero .
As she sings, many pictures and videos of animals being rescued from their terrible conditions play
on a screen behind her. This commercial definitely pulls on the heart strings of animal lovers by
using the rhetoricdevices of ethos, pathos, and logos in a very subtle, yet precise way. The first use
of rhetoric that is seen is at the start of the commercial. The commercial opens by simply showing
the symbol for the Humane Societyof the United States, which is the shape of the United States
made up of animals. It then shows the animals being rescued by the teams of people that work
for the HSUS. Every worker is wearing a shirt with the HSUS logo on it. Opening up with their
symbol, and showing the pictures and videos of the recues with workers wearing HSUS attire
establishes their good use of ethos. When a person watches this commercial, they see that the
Humane Society of the United States is an organization that is built around the belief that animals
want, and need to be cared for and loved. It

Fathers Should Get Paid Paternity Leave
Fathers are just as important as mothers to bond with their children. So, should they receive paid
paternity leave? Paternity leave is when a father takes time off to bond, help out, and adjust to the
new day to day life having a new addition to the family. Some people haven t heard the term,
paternity leave, and assumes you re talking about maternityleave; which is when the motheris
recuperating and caring for her new child. It sounds nice when a father takes time off to care for
their spouse and new born. Although, some men might find it more stressful to take time off
because they worry about their positioning and possible promotions in the future at work. All
fathers should receive paid paternityleave because it s beneficial in the workplace, more companies
and states will reconsider doing it, it s beneficial to the kids, and they become used to doing
more routine work around the house. One of the reasons that fathers should get paid paternity
leave is because it can be beneficial to the workplace. A lot of people wonder, how can someone
taking time off work actually help a company? We must realize, it s not an overnight benefit, it s a
benefit that will come over time in the long run after a bond has been created with the employee.
Covert says, People feel their company is committed to them in the long term, that their happiness
and wellbeing is prioritized over short term profit (Covert). When fathers receive paid paternity
leave, they feel like they can then

Effect of Colonisation
Maori world views were encapsulated in Whakapapa, which provided them with their identity, in
Whanau, Hapu, Iwi and Whenua, the land. Their world views also included believing in
wairuatanga (spiritual connection to the natural environment), kaitiakitanga, which is that people
are linked to all living and non living things and it is the responsibility of the mankind to
safeguard the ecosystem. In addition, they believed in oneness (kotahitanga) and manaakitanga the
ability to care for others (Hikuroa, 2010). According to Durie (as cited in Dew Davis, 2006) Maori
people were able to manage healthby sound public health principles. They were able to preserve

Another breach in the Treaty was seen when the Tohunga Suppression Act 1907 was passed and
outlawed tohunga. Hence Maori lost the freedom to employ traditional methods of healing
through karakia, mirimiri (massage), and wai rakau (Maori plant medication) contributing to the
destruction of many traditional skills as well as expertise. Several other law enforcement and
fragmented governance during the peak of colonisation affected the Maori and was in breach
with the Treaty. The main agenda was the assimilation of the Maori with the Pakeha. One such
Act was the draconian Town and Country Planning Act 1926, which was used to remove Maori
from their traditional settlements to blend with Pakeha culture. The aim of which was to provide
the pakeha with enough land to do the farming. Consequently, Maori were forced to leave behind
their traditional world in the name of urbanisation causing separation of Maori from Maori. Poor
levels of education exacerbated the social situation, like poor housing, unemployment and low
income. All these factors are the determinants of health and it was seen that from year 1964 1984
there was a continual decline in Maori health. Now Maori represent lower socioeconomic status in
all the strata and this will probably predict a greater likelihood of adopting risk laden lifestyle.

James Webb Telescope
We can search for things that can t be seen by using EMR, or some of NASA s tools like a
telescope. For example, the James Webb Telescope or the Hubble Telescope can help us see the
universe more clearly than we ever have. To start, in the reading, JWTS: A vision for the future, it
states that Lyman Spitzer Jr. dreamed of a telescope that could snap crystal clear views of the
universe. This telescope would be able to reveal clearer images of far off objects than any of the
telescopes we have on Earth. This telescope was eventually known as the James Webb Telescope.
This proves that it can help things see objects that can t be seen by humans because the Earth s
atmosphere blocks clear views of the stars and James Webb Telescope will certainly

My evidence proves that the JWTS can help search for these things because even though we
have many infrared telescopes on Earth, the best place to do it is in space, because of how
bright the atmosphere glows in infrared light. This will allow us to better understand how the
universe, galaxies, stars, and planets came to be. Also, infrared light pierces through layers of
dust that can hide objects in space, allowing the Webb, with its cutting edge technology, to see
the objects that are hidden. This proves we can use EMR to see things that can t be seen
because the universe is expanding, and visible light stretches as it travels through space, turning
it into infrared light. Which makes distant stars and galaxies seem out of sight. Not to mention,
Webb s vision will be able to see the flicker of the first galaxies popping into existence in the
early universe. It will chart the growth of galaxies from being shapeless masses to being huge
spiral shapes that may be home to new planets and solar systems. This ties in with the question,
how galaxies, planets, and stars came to be because this telescope will be able to see the birth of
galaxies and continue to watch it

  • 2. Video Games Are Not Safe For Young Viewers Vanderbilt blogger Emily Hughes states that video games have been around for over 50 years, starting as coin operated console and computer games. Video games have progressed from simple 2 dimentional videos with simple controller actions to realistic and 3 dimentional videos that involve full attention mentally and physically. The first video gamelaunched was Spacewar in 1962 where the objective of the game was for spaceships to battle to the death in space. The theme of fighting to the death has progressed on as a main theme in video games today. The growing theme of violence, fighting to the death, and gore have been becoming more popular and expected in video games leading to parents and the government to step in to set the boundaries of what type of video games are and are not safe for young viewers. The first uproar in the United States about violent video games was in 1976, over gaming company Exidy s Death Race, an 8 bit arcade game in which a player s car runs over stick figures, turning them into tombstones (Suddath). Death Race caused the United States first video gaming ethical terror. The United States was unsure on how to deal with young children getting ahold of violent video games and were focused on finding a way to keep the mental development of young child out of the games harmful way. The growth of moral uproar continued in 1993 where Mortal Kombat, which included extremely violent graphics and fatality moves, and Night Trap, in which a male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effect of Surface Area to Volume Ratio on Rate of Osmosis [Type text] [Type text] [Type text] _An experiment on the effect of surface area to volume ratio on the rate of osmosis of Solanum tuberosum L._ BACKGROUND A cell needs to perform diffusion in order to survive. Substances, including water, ions, and molecules that are required for cellular activities, can enter and leave cells by a passive process such as diffusion. Diffusion is random movement of molecules in a net direction from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration order to reach equilibrium. Diffusion does not require any energy input. Diffusion is needed for basic cell functions for example, in humans, cells obtain oxygen via diffusion from the alveoli of the lungs into the blood and in plants water ... While all the other cubes of potato had larger increases in mass at face value compared to the smallest cube, the smallest cube had the largest overall gain in percentage. The results support my hypothesis that the smallest cube will have a higher rate of osmosis because it has a proportionally larger amount of surface area compared to its volume. As seen from the graph above, despite my hypothesis being correct, the trend in the percentage increase of mass was not a steady ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, system is a business management software that integrates all levels of operations. It can include product planning, development, manufacturing, sales and marketing. The goal of a successful ERP is to improve the flow of all shared information and data across the entire organization. In the past, Johnson Johnson have used an ERP developed by SAP, a German multinational software company and one of the worlds largest. More recently J J took on a massive project to consolidate and harmonize their ERP landscape. J J s global enterprise supply chain included 120 manufacturing sites, over 500 external manufacturers, 450 distribution centers, and over 60 ERP systems that support about 275 operating companies (Dignan, 2013). This project was initiated because J J was finding that they were having trouble keeping some products on shelves which affected sales. Leg Hair Remover If you think that a clump of hair is clogging up your drain, you can use some leg hair remover to clear your drain. Take a container of leg hair remover and pour it down your drain. Let it sit in your drain for at least an hour; this will give it some time to break up the hair that is clogging your drain. After an hour or so has passed, pour a pot of hot water down your drain, then wait again. This will push the hair remover further down your drain and will allow it to continue to break down the hair. • 8. George Orwell s Writing Style The English language changes dramatically over time, effecting how English writers formulate their words; some argue that these changes are not for the better. In the essay Politics and the English Language, George Orwell evaluates both modern and past works, and elaborates on his views of how language degrades. He conveys that the modern writingstyle needs considerable improvement. Orwell wants writers and speakers, such as politicians, to adjust their phrasing to favor clarity. At first, Orwell uses modern language errors in his own writing to demonstrate their impracticality, then he reveals how modern writers dupe their readers, in the end Orwell warns his audience of the harmful effects of deficient writing. Right away, the author derides the modern writing style to establish the framework of his message. Orwell lists examples of bad modern phrasing throughout his essay. In one instance, he uses a mocking tone before listing a number of improper phrases, asserting that they . . . save the trouble of picking out appropriate verbs and nouns (Orwell 3). The author does not literally mean that the phrases he lists avoid the necessity of choosing the right words; he uses the words save the trouble as a kind of joke. He applies a sarcastic tone to make his audience take the use of these phrases less seriously. His wittiness makes the phrases that modern writers use seem almost laughable because they are so unclear in their complexity. Through his mockery, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of With The Planets, Op 32, By Gustav Holst With The Planets, Op. 32, composed 1914 1916, Gustav Holst incorporates a wide array of cultural and scientific references to create musical characters for each of the planets in our solar system. The scientific connection is immediately clear simply by looking at how Holst chose to order the movements. While he does not specifically place the planets in order of distance from the sun, they still follow a pattern that clearly references their positions in space. Mars, Venus, and Mercury open the suite, being numbers 3, 2, and 1 from the sun (neglecting to count Earth, which does not appear). Following this are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, being numbers 4, 5, 6, and 7 in order. While an awareness of their scientific positions is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mars and Venus, movements 1 and 2, reflect similar dual scientific and mythological references. Mars is the god of war, and his musical themes are clearly warlike: A menacing war drum rhythm is present throughout, with low tones, dominant 5ths, and threatening melodies. Scientifically, Mars appears red through a telescope a color commonly associated with war, rage, blood, and fighting (for example, the phrase seeing red means anger, especially violent anger). Venus, in great contrast to Mars, is a soft, sweet, and loving movement, reflecting the goddess Venus s dominion of romantic love. Through a telescope, Venus appears white with occasional tones of soft yellow colors that are associated with softness, light, and comfort (think of our association between the color white and the concept of purity). The remaining four movements follow the same pattern. Jupiter, or Zeus in the Greek tradition, is the god of lightning (depicted holding a lighting bolt) as well as the mostly benevolent ruler of the gods. His reign in Olympia is associated largely with peace and prosperity, which is reflected in his jolly musical movement he is the Bringer of Jollity, per Holst. However, in contrast to Mercury, this is a more stately jollity, reflecting both his enhanced position in the pantheon as well as the planet s physically large size. The normality of the American way of living is removed and just the facts are left to be described as a seemingly different culture. Upon rereading, there are many facts that show the reader that the author is talking about Americans, but they are easily skimmed over with the guise that this is some other culture. For Example, the author even states that the Nacirema live in North Americabetween Canada and Mexico (Miner). The next thing described is a bathroom or the shrine in which the rituals are performed. He talks about how houses can be valued by how many bathrooms it has, and how the walls of bathrooms are normally much nicer than the walls everywhere else in the house. As if you are transferred into a fairy tale. The sky seemed like a piece of beautiful painting. The whole ambiance of the space was captivating. The fluffy clouds were dancing around the moon making the light falling on the ground to glimmer dramatically. By the passing time the cloud shift shapes into something new and exciting each time. The stone pathway led one to the exquisite marble fountain. The soft moonlight hitting the marble make it shine as white as pearls. The moonlight made everything, the flowers the tree leaves and bushes all glittered like jewels. A light breeze was making the branches dance to their own rhythm. In life we see comparisons and contrasts everyday in our lives in one way or another. At the same time it is astonishing too, how one situation, person or movie can have amazing resemblances to other situations and movies. It is always a whirlpool of a mixture of comparisons and contrasts. One just needs an observant eye or a magnifying glass to look at things differently. Excellent examples of this are two great movies; Coach Carter and Pursuit of Happiness . Coach Carter directed by Thomas Carter is about the struggle of a man who tries to mend his basketballteam into becoming educated students along with strong athletes. Pursuit of Happiness directed by Gabriele Muccino is about a salesman who is struggling to make ends meet, and raise his son after the motherwalks out on them. While Boeing is known mostly known for their commercial airplanes they also manufactures defense, space and security systems, military aircrafts, weapons, satellites, electronic defense systems, launch systems and information and communication systems (Boeing, 2013). In this case we are going to focus on the Dreamliner 787, and the problems that came with the creation of it. The first Boeing 787Dreamliner was delivered to Japan s ANA in 2011, nearly 40 months after the planned delivery date. The expected delivery was in May 2008, but the fuel efficient 787 Dreamliner s manufacturing had become complicated due to multiple changes in the design and supply chain implemented all at once. Far from the traditional manufacturing, Dreamliner design consists of many new features like unique design, one piece fuselage, reduced weight, 20% increase in fuel economy, and reduction in maintenance time. Apart from the changes in design, another major difficulty was the company s global supply chain network. For the first time ever Boeing outsourced two most critical parts fuselage and wings. Everything put together, the complications kept increasing and so is the delay. At least when the plane finally the entered the market years later design came out as expected, and there weren t any sacrifices to the design that had to be made. The plane can hold from 210 250 passengers on routes of 7650 8200 nautical miles and satisfies the fuel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That s exactly what prions have done to scientists understanding of the ground rules for infectiousdiseases. Prions cause diseases, but they aren t viruses or bacteria or fungi or parasites. They are simply proteins, and proteins were never thought to be infectious on their own. Organisms are infectious, proteins are not. Or, at least, they never used to be. Shepherds and farmers whose sheep had scrapie never seemed to get scrapie themselves. So, for a long time, scientists assumed that the prions of animals did not cause infections in humans. But, between 1994 and 1996, 12 people in England came down with Creutzfeld Jakob disease (CJD), a human prion disease whose symptoms are not unlike those of the mad cows, and all the victims had eaten beef from cows suspected of having mad cow disease. Etruria s southern area was bordered by the Tiber River and its northern area was bordered by the Arno River in which the areas were broken up into city states ruled by their own rulers. 2.The Apollo of Veiiis a 5ft. 10 in. painted sculpture molded out of terra cotta. This sculpture was originally a decoration on the roof of a temple built by the Etruscans. Both the Greek and Etruscan s style of art was similar, with that being said the particular sculpture is a resemblance of the Greek Archaic style of art. The curvilinear style along with the flat surface patterns of the folds of the drape/ clothes he was wearing, the diagonal calf muscles radiating from beneath the knee, the smile, and the style in which the hair was made (long locks) are the same characteristics of Archaic Greek art. The difference between the Etruscan and Greek art form lies in the clear and crisp contours, forms and stylization, of Apollo s body along with the fact that he is depicted as striding (showing fluid flowing movement). This is also what makes the sculpture of Apollo of Veii realistic because the sculpture not only shows fluid motion (the position of his legs and his stretched out arms) but also the expression that is on Apollo s face. 3.Women are portrayed more equal to men, and have a place in Etruscan society unlike ... Separate But Equal Doctrine Brianna Ellis Mrs. Holt M/J Law Studies 8 October 2017 African Americans were granted full citizenship, by the Fourteenth Amendment, in the year of 1868; segregation did not end until almost a hundred years later, in 1964. The separate but equal doctrine allowed segregation as long as blacks and whites had equal facilities. During the time of separate but equal many debated whether this doctrine was constitutional or not. The monumental Supreme Court cases Plessy vs Ferguson and Brown vs Board of Education shaped America s society by deciding the constitutionality of the separate but equal doctrine. In the year of 1896, the Supreme Court case Plessy vs Ferguson shaped America s society by concluding that the separate but equal doctrine was constitutional. This all began when Homer Plessy, who was one eighth black, sat in the white designated train car. He was arrested because he was in violation of the 1890 Separate Car Act, which declared that all rail companies must implement separate but equal accommodations for white and black passengers. Plessy contended in court that the Act infringed upon the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments. After two unsuccessful attempts in lower courts, he took his case to the Supreme Court, which upheld the earlier rulings that segregation is constitutional under the separate but equal doctrine. The Supreme Court decision for Plessy vs Ferguson ruled in favor of Ferguson, 7 1. The majority found that the separate but equal doctrine did not violate the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment, while the minority found the complete opposite. On the other hand, Blair, et al. The definition of each individual man is the sum of his life and all he has accomplished in his life. He is also responsible for all the choices and actions he makes in his life. He begins to learn the cabbala, which is an existentialist decision since the main idea of existentialism is creating your own self. Another example of an existentialist decision occurs in the concentration camp of Buna, when a young boy is to be hanged with two adults. Many of the Oberkapos had little boys that they liked and had hang around for sexual purposes. Someone at the camp was suspected of blowing up the electric station, and eventually they found it to be the Dutch Oberkapo, and he was arrested. This Oberkapo had a little boy (not his son), and he would not say whether or not the man had done it, so they decided to hang him. He had the face of a sad angel (60). The Lagerkapo who is supposed to do the hanging refuses, and SS officers have to step in and perform the execution. In all species, the process of transcriptions begins with the binding of RNA polymerase complex to a special DNA sequence at the beginning of the gene, which named promoter. The activation of RNA polymerase leads to initiation of transcription and followed by elongation of transcription. And these two cells were different in these elements.... • 37. Calcium Homeostasis Essay Calcium Homeostasis Kayla Smith Anatomy and Physiology I BSC 1085C Ref# 82458 Calcium plays a very significant role in our bodies. Approximately 99 percent of the calcium in our bodies is stored in the teeth and bones. Calcium generates about two percent of our total body weight. Calcium is crucial in bone formation, keeping strong bones and teeth and is known for helping to prevent osteoporosis. Although calcium is mostly thought about in the bones and teeth, it also plays important roles throughout the body. The amount of calcium outside the bones and teeth may be small in comparison to what is inside the bones and teeth, but is very useful in many functions in the body. Calcium is required in functions such as the contraction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calcitriol moves to the nucleus of these cells and boost the role of proteins that carry calcium from inside the small intestine to the blood. Calcitonin does the opposite of the parathyroid hormone and vitamin D. While the parathyroid gland and vitamin D raise the calcium levels, calcitonin decreases it. Calcitonin is a hormone secreted by the C cell of the thyroid gland that lowers blood calcium levels by inhibiting bone resorption. (Lingohr Smith, 2011). Having high and low levels of calcium in the body affects the body differently. Hypercalcemia is the medical term for high blood calcium. Having too much calcium in the body can lead to an increased risk of kidney stones, constipation, nausea, and high blood pressure. People with hypercalcemia may also have stomach, muscle and joint pain. Very severe hypercalcemia can cause symptoms of brain dysfunction such as confusion, emotional disturbances, delirium, hallucinations, and coma. Irregularly low calcium levels in the blood are known as hypocalcaemia. Your bones and teeth will begin to deteriorate because your body takes the calcium that is stored in your bones to carry out the functions that are dependent on calcium. Hypocalcaemia can cause fragile bones, brittle nails and can cause frequent muscle cramps. It can also cause joint pain, and put you at risk for bone disease as you age. Low calcium levels can put you at higher risks for high blood pressure or hypertension as well as poor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Emotions InSympathy, By Paul Laurence Dunbar Emotions are constantly building up inside of you. Some may be feelings of joy or pleasure, while others are emotions of sadness, pain or frustration. Typically, we relieve our emotions through writing, by talking to therapists, possibly doing yoga, or even sleeping. Well, back in 1800s, most slaves didn t have the luxury to learn how to read or write. They were whipped for sleeping, as they worked most hours of the day and they definitely didn t have any therapists to talk to. This made the slaves release their emotions in more unconventional ways, such as singing. This is described in the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, which is about the imprisonment of the life of a slave and excerpt from Narrative (pages 8 9) by Frederick Douglass, a personal insight to Douglass horrid life as a slave. Both texts convey the central idea that during times of sorrow, slaves would sing to release their pain and misery. These songs they sung were not songs of joy. Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar depicts the idea of slaves singing for their sorrow and releasing their emotions by using an extended metaphor which carries the entire poem. The caged bird, referenced throughout the entire poem, are the slaves. Trapped up with no escape, not able to break free. The metaphor of the caged bird to represent the slaves in this poem truly carries the piece and depicts the imprisonment of slavery. • 42. Springboard Diving As A Discourse Community Springboard Diving as a Discourse Community The world of diving has been around since the 1800 s and has been seen at the Olympic games since 1904. It first started off being called fancy diving where the aim was to plunge into the water and see who could achieve the furthest depth underwater. It then progressed and became more complex involving specific skills and dives which first only men were allowed to participate in, and later women came into the society. To this day, divingis one of the most popular events watched at the Olympic games; however this community remains small and structured because of its intricate characteristics ( History of Diving , 1). Diving has been influenced by the constant updating of technology and is incorporated in this world through high schools, colleges and universities as well as numerous sporting events that occur around the world. A theorist named John Swales analyzes communities in more detail and states that communities continue to develop and change throughout the years and further calls these communities, discourse communities. John Swales defines a discourse community as a group of people involved in and communicating about a particular topic, issue, or in a particular field (Swales, 215). He specifies a discourse community through academics; however, there are countless discourse communities worldwide that can be perceived. • 43. Essay On Misunderstood In The Metamorpoda Outsiders: Misjudged or Misunderstood? What does being outsider mean? Does it mean being left out of being different? People have often felt like an outsider at one point in their life, and wonder why. Are outsiders misjudged or misunderstood? These two terms meet at a crossroads, and are commonly misinterpreted. Misjudging someone is when you make a solid assumption or conclusion about them, whether it be on their looks our how they act. Being misunderstood is when someone interprets you for someone you are not. Based on both of these definitions, outsiders are simply misjudged. We can see examples of outsiders being misjudged both in literature and in modern day society. The Metamorphosis , a short story written by Franz Kafka, tells ... This story is one of many that has happened just in 2017. A total of 6 million african americans were killed by police officers in the year 2016. One possible explanation for the racial disparities is that police tend to patrol high crime neighborhoods, which are disproportionately black. That means they are going to be generally more likely to initiate a policing action, from traffic stops to more serious arrests, against a black person who lives in these areas. This goes to show how misjudged most of modern day society is. More and more people are judged on their appearance or in this situation, where they live. However, one could argue that outsiders are just misunderstood. For example, referring back to the last paragraph, the african american culture is misunderstood because of a stereotype they have always had hanging over their shoulders. Or even back to The Metamorphosis , Gregor was misunderstood because his family at first became blind and relied on Gregor for the support of Welfare, but they soon realized that Gregor was the happiness of the family. When measuring out the substances for this experiment, an individual could get random errors when slightly different values are collected each time they perform the measurement. Systematic errors, on the other hand, are more difficult to detect but can be avoided if an individual looks for them with care. A systematic error can occur in this experiment if the chemicals that are used are expired or when the scales that are being used have been tampered with beforehand. Aside from random and systematic errors, there are a few limitations in the design of this experiment. The use of small graduated cylinders can provide inaccurate results for the experiment. Since the smaller cylinders can only hold a small amount of acid, there is a possibility that the solutions can undergo supersaturation, when a solution contains more of the dissolved material than could be dissolved by the solvent. In a case that this happens, it would be difficult to predict when the tablet stop dissolving in the solution. It has been influential in finding the cure for many diseases including Alzheimer s and cancer. The positron emitting glucose analog, 18F fluoro 2 deoxyglucose (FDG) has helped in the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring therapeutic response in various cancers. The metabolic imaging assessment is very helpful in providing important clinical data which in turn improves the patient management [6]. It is proved that the FDG PET scan has better sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy when compared to CT imaging in most cancer patients. The advantages of PET over other molecular imaging techniques are detailed in the following sections. 3.1 Advantages 3.1.1 Sensitivity The most important advantage of PET imaging is it s ability to exhibit a higher sensitivity (detecting and recording more number of emitted events) when compared to other methods such as SPECT, in which physical collimators are required to reject photons, which are not within a defined angular range. Hence the collimators have lower geometric efficiencies i.e. the percentage of detecting emitting photons (0.01%) [7]. 3.1.2 Coincidence Detection in PET Due to the annihilation event in PET, there is no need to employ physical collimators. The collimation is done electronically using the coincidence detection method. This in turn increases the angle of acceptance and hence the number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Police The police are afforded a wide range of discretional powers, covering things from deciding whether or to arrest someone to determining disciplinary actions in the workplace. However, in an exploration of police personality, through cluster analysis, evidence was found for different typologies , or resonances, of police. The results indicate that police are not an homogenous group. In addition, quite complex relationships between measures of police behavior and individual difference were found within the resonances, with effect sizes showing moderate results. The findings support the need to investigate further personality typologies and extend them to the examination of attitude behavior relationships. In addition, research into the use of an attitudinal measure, such as discretionary ideology, as an alternative to measuring behavior could be expanded. This telescope would be able to reveal clearer images of far off objects than any of the telescopes we have on Earth. This telescope was eventually known as the James Webb Telescope. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My evidence proves that the JWTS can help search for these things because even though we have many infrared telescopes on Earth, the best place to do it is in space, because of how bright the atmosphere glows in infrared light. Also, infrared light pierces through layers of dust that can hide objects in space, allowing the Webb, with its cutting edge technology, to see the objects that are hidden. This proves we can use EMR to see things that can t be seen because the universe is expanding, and visible light stretches as it travels through space, turning it into infrared light. Which makes distant stars and galaxies seem out of sight. Not to mention, Webb s vision will be able to see the flicker of the first galaxies popping into existence in the early universe. It will chart the growth of galaxies from being shapeless masses to being huge spiral shapes that may be home to new planets and solar systems.
