Definition of Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is defined as
“willful and repeated harm inflicted
through the use of computers,
cell phones, and other electronic devices”
(Hinduja & Patchin, 2015 ).

Online vs. Offline Bullying
Recently a student shared
“that all bullying hurts, whether in person or
through technology.”
Bullying in all forms is emotionally
damaging, but there are some
key differences when someone is bullied
through the use of technology.

Be A Self-Advocate
“Self-Advocate? Seriously, what does that even

Being a “self-advocate” means speaking up for
yourself, telling people what you need, and
taking action.

Take steps to
protect yourself
Most social media sites care about your safety.
They offer SAFETY CENTERS which share ideas
for how to report, block, and remove content.

What If I Am the One Bullying?
What’s so great about hurting or humiliating
someone? Nothing.
Negative comments, making fun of someone,
excluding others on purpose — it really says more
about you than them. And the message it sends is
that what you are doing is not very cool.

What If I Witness Bullying?
“It’s none of my business — I should just ignore it
and walk away, right?” Wrong!
Put yourself in the target’s place.
If you were being pushed around,
laughed at, gossiped about, made fun of, or
ignored on purpose, you’d probably want
someone to help you out.
