IoT Protocols Integration with Vortex GatewayAngelo Corsaro
Not all Consumer and Industrial Internet of Things (CIoT, IIoT) applications have the luxury of starting with blank sheet of paper and design the system ground-up. Often IoT features have to be built around existing systems designed using proprietary technologies or vertical standards. As a consequence the ability to easily integrate communication standards, proprietary protocols and data stores is key in accelerating the development of IoT capabilities.
This webcast will showcase how the Vortex Gateway can be used to easily integrate different communication standards, data stores as well as quickly develop connectors for proprietary technologies.

Edge optimized architecture for fabric defect detection in real-timeShuquan Huang
In textile industry, fabric defect relies on human inspection traditionally, which is inaccurate, inconsistent, inefficient and expensive. There were automatic systems developed on the defect detection by identifying the faults in fabric surface using the image and video processing techniques. However, the existing solution has insufficiencies in defect data sharing, backhaul interconnect, maintenance and etc. By evolving to an edge-optimized architecture, we can help textile industry improve fabric quality, reduce operation cost and increase production efficiency. In this session, I’ll share:
What’s edge computing and why it’s important to intelligence manufacturing
What’s the characteristics, strengths and weaknesses of traditional fabric defect detection method
Why textile industry can benefit from edge computing infrastructure
How to design and implement an edge-enabled application for fabric defect detection in real-time
Insights, synergy and future research directions
Edge computing and the Internet of Things bring great promise, but often just getting data from the edge requires moving mountains. Let's learn how to make edge data ingestion and analytics easier using StreamSets Data Collector edge, an ultralight, platform independent and small-footprint Open Source solution written in Go for streaming data from resource-constrained sensors and personal devices (like medical equipment or smartphones) to Apache Kafka, Amazon Kinesis and many others. This talk includes an overview of the SDC Edge main features, supported protocols and available processors for data transformation, insights on how it solves some challenges of traditional approaches to data ingestion, pipeline design basics, a walk-through some practical applications (Android devices and Raspberry Pi) and its integration with other technologies such as Streamsets Data Collector, Apache Kafka, Apache Hadoop, InfluxDB and Grafana. The goal here is to make attendees ready to quickly become IoT data intake and SDC Edge Ninjas.

Building a reliable and scalable IoT platform with MongoDB and HiveMQDominik Obermaier
Today’s Internet of Things (IoT) is enabling companies to blend together the physical and digital worlds, creating new business models and generating insights that increase productivity at once unimaginable levels. However, managing the ever growing volume of heterogeneous IoT data from disparate devices, systems and applications both on premise and in the cloud can be a challenging endeavour without a scalable and reliable IoT platform.
In this webinar, we will explore why and how companies are leveraging HiveMQ and MongoDB to build exactly that: a scalable and reliable IoT platform. Based upon a sample fleet management scenario, we will explain how telematics data can be routed via MQTT and efficiently stored to provide analytics and insights into the data.
Key Learnings
- Common challenges and pitfalls of IoT projects
- Required components for effectively handling data with an IoT platform
- HiveMQ for MQTT to enable bi-directional device communication over unstable networks
- MongoDB as the flexible and scalable modern data platform combining data from different sources and powering your applications
- Why MongoDB and HiveMQ is such a great combination
Presenter - Boris Cherkasskiy
The industry-wide demand to collect and present machine statistical and performance data is continually growing. While it’s possible to IoT-enable a machine with the use of an Intelligent Gateway or by utilizing an MES system, it might be cost-prohibitive for a small machine.
This session will present a solution that allows you to push data from an S7-1200 PLC directly to the cloud via standard MQTT protocol. Attendees will gain a quick path to Industry 4.0 using standard IoT protocol to connect a custom machine (or a cell/line) to an existing and fast-growing IoT infrastructure.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
