Debbie Wehmeyer discusses how negotiating rate increases and pitching new business ideas have been some of the toughest business decisions she has had to make. She finds that decisions involving people, such as difficult conversations with customers, are the most challenging. However, she has learned from past mistakes to improve her decision making over time. As a CHEP employee, she feels supported by others in the organization who trust her judgments without compromising company values.

1. Next up in our series of fab CHEP females is Debbie Wehmeyer.
We asked Debbie: What was one of the toughest business decisions you’ve had to make and
how did it impact your life?
I have had to make many business decisions over the years, some have been tougher and
more difficult than others - like negotiating a compensation, pitching a new business idea and
being put on the spot, negotiating rate increases etc. Generally decision making follows the same
process: Identifying the problem, analysing the solutions and making the decision.
I find that the most difficult decisions always revolve around people. When meeting with
customers and having some difficult conversations, I always have to remind myself that business
decisions are not personal, and all parties involved are just trying to achieve the best deal possible
for their company.
I have made mistakes over the years, and I have learnt from these mistakes, making sure that
the quality of my decision making ability has improved along the way.
We are very fortunate to work in an organisation like CHEP. Knowing that I have the support
of many people in the organisation who trust me to do the right thing without compromising
CHEP.
