This document discusses issues with conventional blade stabilizers such as poor BHA response, damage, and hole quality. It introduces a new enhanced stabilizer called Switchblade that aims to address these issues through improved hydrodynamic design, weight transfer abilities, and a robust retention system. Field testing results are presented showing the Switchblade performing well with less vibration, balling, and stabilizer wear across over 7,000 hours of drilling 20 wells internationally. Fixedblade stabilizers are also discussed for lower-cost applications with known gauge diameters.
