The document discusses quality of service (QoS) support in unified network architectures. It presents challenges in providing end-to-end QoS across different network technologies with existing QoS mechanisms. A possible solution of profile-based QoS support is proposed, where QoS profiles determine the optimal end-to-end path according to application requirements. The solution is evaluated through simulations and network emulation. Results show the proposed approach can select paths better suited to applications compared to existing methods. The number of probes used to probe the network impacts overhead and path estimation accuracy.
