I am a graduate student at Kennesaw State University in the Integrated Global Communication Master's program. This semester in my Communication and Technology class, I had the opportunity to create and design my first ever professional white paper. I decided to create a white paper on the topic of "Emojis" because of their recent stardom. In 2015, we began to see emojis being used in pretty much everything: commercials, marketing, campaigns, emails, social media, t-shirts, etc. So I did some research on emojis and learned they have become the new means of communication for individuals and companies alike. Robots have been around for a long time. Detroit has
used robots for four decades to build cars, and manu-
facturers of all kinds of goods use some form of robot-
ics to achieve efficiencies and productivity. But until
iRobot brought its battery-powered vacuum cleaner
to the market, no one had successfully used robots in
the home as an appliance. The issue was not whether it
Jas possible to use robots in the home, but could they
be produced at a price customers would pay. Until the
introduction of Roomba, iRobot's intelligent vacuum
cleaner, robots for the home cost tens of thousands of
dollars. At Roomba's price point of $199, it was now
possible for the average consumer to afford to have a
robot clean the house. That in itself is an interesting
story, but even more interesting is the entrepreneurial
journey of Colin Angle and his company, iRobot.
Background
Colin Angle grew up in Schenectady, New York,
,here he was raised by his mother and stepfather. He
and his three stepbrothers all became engineers, but
Angle was the inventorjbuilder of the group. Begin-
ning in his earliest years, he built pinball machines and
constructed complex pulley systems in the trees of his
back yard. While attending MIT in the 1980s, he was
drawn to the innovative work of Rodney Brooks, di-
rector of the university's artificial intelligence lab.
Brooks was a controversial figure in the robotics field,
but he served as the inspiration for what would be-
cpme some of Angle's most practical inventions. As a
student, Angle was part of the group that succeeded
in building insect-like robots that could perform sim-
ple tasks on reflex. In fact, Angle's creation, Genghis,
appeared on the cover of Popular Science. It w
by then that his future lay in inventions.

D’origine Franco Brésilienne, Frédéric Josué est spécialiste des media et des marques. Il dirige notamment au sein de Havas, la structure d’innovation «18hubs.io». Basée à Los Angeles, Séoul et Tel Aviv, cette structure de recherche opérationnelle opère au croisement des media, des industries culturelles, des technologies et de la data science.
Diplômé d’un troisième cycle en Stratégie Industrielle à la Sorbonne, Frédéric Josué a débuté sa carrière en tant qu'analyste en Intelligence Economique au Ministère de la Défense, puis en tant que macro économiste dans un institut privé. En 2004 il a collaboré à la création du programme C.U.L.T. sur les cultures urbaines, récompensé d’un Interactive Emmy Award.
Frédéric Josué est auteur, conférencier et membre d’associations sur la thématique des écritures Transmedia. En 2015 il a créé et coécrit la Série OTT FRAT-Français Radicalisés Terroristes, diffusée sur Canal Play .
Associé à TIU-Transmedia Immersive University, il est par ailleurs Secrétaire Général du Marseille WebSeries Festival.
