Coopronaranjo R.L. was founded in 1968 with 98 small coffee growers producing around 10,000 bushels of coffee annually. Since then, production has increased significantly to over 160,000 bushels in recent years. The cooperative has diversified over time to include additional business areas like supermarkets, agricultural supplies, coffee roasting and tourism. It aims to support local coffee farmers and ensure traceability from seed to cup through its integrated systems. The cooperative faces challenges from issues like coffee rust but is working to control this through education, access to products, and on-farm trials. It evaluates coffee quality both on and off farms to produce specialty lots for high prices when possible.

Cassava is a tropical root crop grown for its starchy tuberous root and is one of the most important crops globally. It can be grown in poor soils and withstand drought. There are two main varieties - bitter and sweet. Bitter cassava contains cyanogenic glycosides that are toxic and must be removed through processing before consumption. Cassava is used for human food, animal feed, starch extraction and other industrial applications. Processing of cassava produces wastewater and solid residues that require proper management to reduce environmental impacts.

As a business owner, I understand the importance of having a strong online presence and leveraging various digital platforms to reach and engage with your target audience. One often overlooked yet highly valuable asset in this regard is the humble Yahoo account. While many may perceive Yahoo as a relic of the past, the truth is that these accounts still hold immense potential for businesses of all sizes.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Plans to Control Coffee Rust in Naranjo County Farms
–
–
–

rust.
Products for preventing and controlling coffee rust are delivered to coffee
growers through the MAG-ICAFE National Plan.

County.
CooproNaranjo’s Agro-Supply Store gives special offers and discounts on
coffee rust control products.
Educational materials regarding coffee rust management are published
and widely distributed.

CooproNaranjo’s plantation.

future-harvest credits.
Technical assistance offered to growers at the Agro-Supply Store and
through on-site field visits.
46. Quality assessment
•
Where will coffee be evaluated? On farm/off-site?
•
•
The coffee is evaluated at our processing mill by
our Q-Grader certified tasters.
Are single lots to be evaluated?
•
All coffee is evaluated as applicable:
–
–
–
Quality control during processing.
Quality control during storage in silos and warehouses.
Preparation of lots for coffee shipments.
– We also have a Micro-Lot Program, which
consists of special coffee grown on small parcels
that our Coop Members set aside on their farms.
Said parcels are given very special attention and
care, and the resulting harvest is then very
carefully processed. This coffee can be either
washed
or
left
with
its
natural
mucilage, depending on the preferences of the
clientele that exists for these special production
lots.
47. Quality assessment
•
If yes, is there a chance to purchase single lots?
•
•
•
Yes, the opportunity exists to roast a gourmet coffee with
very special characteristics. You will be able to see this
process during your visit.
In terms of grading: percentage of commodity/speciality coffee?
•
The quality yields are 75% premium grade, 15% second
grade, and 10% inferior grades.
A few outstanding farms obtaining higher prices for good quality?
•
Naranjo has ideal conditions for coffee production. The
soils, elevation, micro-climates, and Pacific Basin influence
combine to make the coffee produced in this region sought
after by the world’s finest roasters (Starbucks, Illy, Caribou
Coffee, Peet´s Coffee, Micro-Roasters of Japan, etc.) for use in
their special blends or alone as an exclusive specialty coffee.
High prices are obtained only when small quantities of coffee
are sold, such as with the micro-lots. As you know, coffee
prices generally are dependent on the New York Exchange.
This is why we have searched for a different way to market
our coffee, which must be roasted for that value-added
component.
48. Quality assessment
• Cup of Excellence participation? If
yes, experience?
•
Yes, we have participated in the Cup of
Excellence. There is always strong participation
from the Naranjo region, with our growers’
coffees consistently placing among the most
highly rated.
It is a very small
market, though, and thus favors only a select few.
