This document provides the agenda and logistical information for the DataBio Helsinki Stakeholder Event on harnessing digitalization, open and big data for forestry. The one-day event on October 1st 2019 in Helsinki, Finland will include presentations on open forest data services, a forest data platform for owners, and satellite data applications for forestry. It will also feature a field visit to a forest site and networking dinner.

2 Meeting venue and practical information
2.1 Directions to the venue
From the airport (Helsinki, HEL)
You can conveniently travel to the city centre of Helsinki with a train connection from Helsinki
Airport. The I train travels a route: Helsinki – Tikkurila – Airport – Myyrmäki – Helsinki, while
the P train travels the opposite direction: Helsinki – Myyrmäki – Airport – Tikkurila Helsinki.
Both of the trains run on the Ring Rail Line between Helsinki city centre and the airport. The
travel time is about 30 minutes. The timetables, routes and ticket prices can be found on the
HSL website: https://www.hsl.fi/en.
Please notice that you need a regional ticket for travelling between the Airport and Helsinki

The entrance to Pääposti Auditorio meeting room is located at C stair entrance and this can
be accessed via the Postikuja street.
2.2 Accommodation
Accommodation is booked directly by the participants. Please find attached the list of
recommended hotels close to the venue. Please notice that Finland will be hosting the
presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1st of July onwards, so it is highly
recommended to make your hotel reservations well in advance. This will also ensure the
availability as well as moderate prices for your accommodation.

2.3 Field visit
The field visit will locate about 45 minutes’ drive from Helsinki city centre. During the
excursion, the forest operations related data sharing chain is introduced and connected with
the actual forest operations. In October, the Finnish weather can be unstable and therefore
it is highly recommended to reserve some warm clothes, proper shoes as well as rain
accessories for the visit.
2.4 Sauna and networking dinner
The dinner will take place at restaurant Savotta, https://www.ravintolasavotta.en. Savotta
word actually means a logging site, so it follows the forestry theme of the day. Before the
dinner, there is a possibility to enjoy the Finnish sauna and outdoor swimming pool close to
the dinner place at Allas Sea Pool https://www.allasseapool.fi/en/.

3 About DataBio-project
DataBio-project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and
innovation programme under grant agreement No 732064. Topic: ICT-15-2016-2017; Big Data
PPP: Large Scale Pilot actions in sectors best benefitting from data-driven innovation.
The main goal of the DataBio project is to show the benefits of Big Data technologies in the
raw material production from agriculture, forestry and fishery/aquaculture for the
bioeconomy industry to produce food, energy and biomaterials responsibly and sustainably.
DataBio proposes to deploy a state of the art, big data platform on top of the existing partners’
infrastructure and solutions – the Big DATABIO Platform. The work will be continuous
cooperation of experts from end user and technology provider companies, from bioeconomy
and technology research institutes, and of other partners.
In the pilots also associated partners and other stakeholders will be actively involved.
The selected pilots and concepts will be transformed into pilot implementations using co-
innovative approaches and tools where the bioeconomy sector end users, experts and other
stakeholders will give input to the user and sector domain understanding for the requirement
specifications for ICT, Big Data and Earth Observation experts and for other solution providers
in the consortium.
Based on the preparation and requirement specifications work, the pilots are implemented
using and selecting the best suitable market ready or almost market ready Big Data and Earth
Observation methods, technologies, tools and services to be integrated to the common Big
DATABIO Platform.
During the pilots the close cooperation continues and feedback from the bioeconomy sector
user companies will be harnessed in the technical and methodological upgrades for pilot
implementations. Based on the pilot results and the new solutions also new business
opportunities are expected. In addition during the pilots the end users are participating in
trainings to learn how to use the solutions and developers also outside the consortium will
be active in the Hackathons to design and develop new tools, services and application for the
platform.
Databio’s expected achievements include but are not limited to:
● Demonstrate increase of productivity in bioeconomy
● Increase of market share of Big Data technology providers in the bioeconomy sector
● More than double the use of Big Data technology in bioeconomy
● Leveraging additional target sector investments by a factor of >5
● More than 100 organizations in demonstrations
● Liaison with other Big Data actions
● Closely working with BDVA

4 About Helsinki
Helsinki is the capital city and most populous municipality of Finland. Located on the shore of
