and negative
• Efficiency (or ineffiency) can spread and multiply easily
• Optimization possibilities on all layers from apps to hardware and
servers
• Libraries should be cleaned from redundant sections, dead code or
artefacts that slow down applications.
• Avoiding waste of energy due to unused running processes and
resources.
• Openness and transparency allows comparisons and improvement.
• Re-use can eliminate unnecessary work.

26. A Green ICT ecosystem – building
sustainability and competitiveness for
businesses in the Uusimaa region
• We increase the supply of low-carbon
digital products and services, help
decrease the carbon footprint of public
ICT procurement and increase
awareness of Green ICT in Finland.
• We have i.e. founded the Green ICT
Ecosystem, a professional network for
developers and procurers.
• By 2023 we have published a buyer’s
guide and a developer’s guide and
produced an online tool to aid orgs in
Green ICT planning.

27. Coming up: tool for creating new
Green ICT services and solutions
5 ICT SMEs from the Helsinki Metropolitan area involved receive a
detailed plan on developing their business according to Green ICT
principles.
Business model, products, services & processes reviewed in accordance
to Green ICT principles (less emissions from products and operations).
The end product is an online tool that evaluates potential emissions of a
software engineering project, and prints out a list of suggestions with
relevant sources to minimise them.
