M.Eng Mechanical Engineering 2014 - July 2015 Result Currently Pending
My supervisor for this thesis is the Deputy Vice Chancellor for research and innovation at the
University of Johannesburg, Professor Tshilidzi Marwala.
Area of research includes computational intelligence and algorithm development in Finite
Element Model updating.
My thesis entailed the modelling of three FE models namely, a simple cantilever, an
unsymmetrical H-Beam and a GARTUER model in MATLAB using SDTools libraries.
These models were then subjected to algorithms which updates physical parameters
rendered stochastic under dynamic loading.
The parameter estimation/model updating encompassed developing Bayesian models and
executing MCMC sampling methods such as the simple Metropolis Hastings (MH)
algorithm, the Adaptive Metropolis Hastings (AMH) and comparing results to a more
advanced method called Monte Carlo Dynamically Weighted Importance Sampling
(MCDWIS).

B.Eng Mechanical Engineering
Final research and design project titled “Floating Pipe Inspection Robot”.
Research entailed the building and testing of an operator controlled device, designed for
localized inspection. Experimentation of alternative tracking techniques using wireless
networking as the communication platform. Experimentation of inspection techniques
such as sensor data acquisition and edge detection from digital image processing.
Design entailed the conceptualization of a device which theoretically would be capable
of self-regulation and autonomous maneuverability. Extensive research in linear time
invariant systems and basic control theory in mobile robotics. MATLAB and Simulink
model based simulation and controller design. Design is based on the premise of RSSI
localization tracking method.

About myself
I am a loyal, trustworthy person who performs well individually as well as in groups. The content of
my CV and my references will confirm competent leadership skills, attention to detail, commitment
and a friendly nature. I value good communication and organizational skills. My professional interests
are wide and I have the ability to apply myself to any challenge I am given. I have developed a great
personal interest and passion in control theory, however engineering brings me joy and satisfaction
due to my love of science and mathematics. I’m interested in employment for an engineering
position involving design, control theory, finite element analysis/structural dynamics, data analysis,
to name a few of my professional interest. My employment should preferably ultimately result in my
registration as a professional engineer (Pr.Eng).
I’d say my greatest strength is my willingness and ability to learn.
